  1. Hi Any clever people on here, got a way to hide or change permissions to remove the admin tools folder and powershell folder from the start menu during os deployment? Currently using sccm and thought of using icalcs command script but that’s as far as I have got. Jon
  2. They are not the only company that does this. Been stung a couple of times in the past. Best to send a letter of cancellation to any contract when you start it.
  3. Have you tried copying a default profile to the net logon folder?
  4. Yep I’m deploying windows 7 on 1710.
  5. If you join visualstudio.com for free you can get access to 3 free months of LinkedIn Learning and Pluralsight.
  6. If you are looking for tools to skin sharepoint online, have a look at Mosaic LiveTiles. Which is free for secondary schools and provides a quick and easy tools for designing pages.
  7. Whoops I meant SFP. Thanks
  8. Hi I am currently doing an analysis of the network infrastructure of my school, and just had fibre and copper tests done on all up-link connections between core and edge switching. So far feedback has been negative due to failure and age of cable used. Unfortunately this is not the only area that needs investment at the moment. Would anyone mind answering a few questions for me as I am interested to know what kind of differences there are between schools. - What speed is your network between core and edge switching(1gbps, 10gbps)? - From the size of your network, do you think that 10gbps is needed in your environment(between core and edge)? - What kind of network speeds do you have between server and storage area network? - Are all cabs fibred between core and edge? - Do you have redundant up-links between core and edge switches? - Are most cabs connected by spf or spf+ transceivers? - Would you agree / disagree in how important it is to invest and maintain your fibre infrastructure? - Do any schools in the area have a secondary server unit or cloud solution for vm replication, in case of hardware failure? Any feedback would be welcome. Thanks in advance Jon
  9. Hi Just wondering if there are any alternatives to Socs calendar solution? My school is after a online school calendar system that provides parents the ability to save an event from ics file to their own calendar. We are looking for one calendar to replace three types of calendars we publish. We print a term one which goes to parents but usually goes out of date quickly. Then one member of staff maintains a yearly calendar that is uploaded as a pdf to the school website then another member of staff types the content from the pdf onto the school website. Socs looks good but I’m interested to see if there is anything else out there? Jon
  10. Hi I am interested to know what people’s reviews of Casio’s range of LED projectors? Had a few sellers warn me off them recently. I cannot afford to go down the route of led touch screen displays but can see that it would be a good idea to move away from projectors completely. Thanks Jon
  11. If batch script look at robocopy command if powershell look at copy-item cmdlet.
  12. Hi What is the licensing costs after year 1? Jon
  13. Sccm isn’t that hard to setup. I thought the same as you recently but after my schools sccm server died over the summer, I had to reinstall it from scratch. If you follow tutorials from windows noob he provides scripts to automate parts of the installation. If it’s virtual server just take a snapshot at each crucial point, so if anything goes wrong rollback.
  14. What's the warranty on ubiquiti kit?
  15. Hi ajames A year on I am interested to know if you went down the desktop virtualisation route?
  16. To the schools that have gone down this route. What are your schools internet speeds and how many users do you have connecting. This does sound appealing but I am concerned that my 100mb over 100mb line isn't going to be enough to cover the 900 students or 300 so devices connecting.
  17. Sorry Arthur, I am a bit of a pain with not reading through everything.
  18. This provides guidance on what versions of windows 10 can be deployed with versions of sccm https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/SCCMdocs/blob/master/sccm/core/plan-design/configs/support-for-windows-10.md
  19. Do you need separate boot.wim files. I setup a new 1610 server last week and just using boot.wim that I created with wdk, for windows 7 and 10. What version of windows 10 are you deploying as I thought only later versions of sccm support later versions of win 10 deployment.
  20. I thought Microsoft were discontinuing Microsoft classroom. But are integrating the features into teams.
  21. Hi The Head of Art at my place is keen on using tumblr with students, to help them create an online gallery and share resources. The reason for the request, was she had visited a school which allows use of it. I am concerned that this contravenes the schools staff AUP policy, as for unmonitored communication between students and staff. Also concerned about the dubious content that could be found on the platform. Are there any school’s allowing access to tumblr out there? Is there any way to lock down access to content that is uploaded? Jon
  22. Hi The Head of Sixth Form at my school, has requested that Linkedin be unblocked for sixth form students. He said that universities are requesting that they have an account before applying for courses. I understand Linkedin is a social network site for business, but I am interested on what peoples views are on this? Jon
  23. Dell compellent range.
  24. There both coming in around the £23k mark. As Davit2005 said above it does raise concern about the cost to expand, as each 1.9tb drive costs around £2000.
  25. Hi I have had a few quotes for a replacement SANs. Currently looking for around 16tb of storage at RAID 10. I have had two spec's on the same device which are coming out at the same cost. Only difference is one has 20 x 960gb enterprise SSDs and the other has 12 x 1.9tb enterprise SSDs. Which one would you go for? Jon
