Yes. It's provided by CLEO + Lancs LEA. It's a flat rate cost based on the number of students. I don't have the figures to hand but it works out at about £4k a year for our school IIRC. thats not on the microwave system surely!?

yea but now sky can advertise as "more channels than cable" what other channels have you lost?

these days it tends to be less about unlimited or not and more about how they deal with the problem of overcapacity. more and more are using blanket shaping to limit the imact of certain types of trafffic, im moving to UKFSN a reseller of entanet, who dont shape but when capacity reaches an upper limit they reduce the speed on all the connections thru a single bt central until it reaches a lower limit. Supposedly the lowest they go is 2mb/person.

we had a presentation by our LEA on their moodle offering, which wasnt a sales presentation as it's freely given but still our management need to be sold the idea of moodle. For people who have no comprehension of content management systems trying to explain moodle without presenting an actual working school moodle site doesnt have the desired results. Anyhoo I was wondering if people with actual real working moodles could give me a dummy pupil logon that i can demonstrate to senior management so they can actually see what a real working school moodles looks like. pm me? cheers andy

does this work? Within MMC Group Policy, Click on user configuration, Next click on Administrative Templates, Then click on System. Within system you'll see "Disable the command prompt". Enable that policy.

do any other NMs or ICT directors teach?
-
thats interesting, in our school the head of ICT and the NM are completely separated. neither answers to the other. the NMs line manager is the Business manager who the top of the tree for all non-teaching staff.
-
how does the ict director differ from the nm?

we suffer lack of clearly defined responsibilities too, its often whoever is standing in the wrong place. That more of a management issue than an organisational one i think. I sit at my desk more doing network stuff so invariably i answer the tech support phone the most.

Need advice on joining virtual pc to domain
browolf replied to projector1's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
just like normal. i have the networking set to the same nic the host pc uses. dont think u have to do anything else. i always got confused with vmware, too many networking options i didnt understand. -
our school is having a sort middle NM restructuring over joining parts of the admin network to ours. it prob a bunch of politics that doesnt affect us lower downs. Nevertheless we've been sent a consulation document that we can make our thoughts on known to the head. Im interested to know how other places with 3 or more staff are organised we are 1 NM with 3 technicians under him (1 of is "senior") 1 tech goes to primaries every morning & fixes stuff other tech fixes stuff senior mostly does sever/network stuff NM does mostly manager things, teaches comp studies, fixes the network infrastructure~ switches, oversees work being done, makes & writes policy, the senior has no responsibilities concerning junior techs, budgets, h&s, decision making. chain of command is pretty much 'all us' > nm is it different elsewhere?

one room of 31 computers is on wsus through group policy. i have 26 computers in wsus but 12 of them are listed twice. i have the startup script running a wipe once settings script i found here. that seems to be one problem. i just realised most of the updates required havent been automatically downloaded by wsus even tho there are 768 approved updates. all the required updates found in the "updates needed by computers" section on the front page dont seem to be listed anywhere else. but i can approve them manually thru there. just realised all the other updates were set to detect only not install so that doesnt help.... i think iknow. it seems to have gotten stuck on the downloads, sure it said the same a few weeks ago Status of Downloads Updates needing files: 612 Downloading 2,073.71 MB of 19,199.15 MB it seems to be working now but 16gb to go :-o

i have a 50 page admin document that needs to have the first 2 pages with no numbering and then consequent pages starting from the number 1 i've put a section break in-between the actual second and third pages. the sections are thus section 1 page 1 & 2 no numbering section 2 page 3-50 numbering starting at 1 i have to insert the page number on page (3) unlinked and (4) before 3-50 is correct but when i do the page (4) for no reason section 1 page 2 gets a page 2 number and when i delete it pages 4-50 loose their numbers what the hell is going on!!!?

well i've broken msde and windows installer on the server now. :-| by server i mean workstation with server os on. nevertheless in order to fix/reinstall win2k on the 1st "server" its an older box that only runs 2 techy websites. i need to move them on to another workstation running server 2003 thats been setup to use an intranet server. however can i get php working. like hell i can. there some sort of 403 permissions error, although ive given 'network service' permissions to everything in sight and its still not working. I followed good instructions http://www.peterguy.com/php/install_IIS6.html This is why i intensely dislike new microsoft stuff, nothing ever works like its supposed to cos they've made it too complicated. Either that or I must just be incompatible with ms cos you'd think i'd have got the hang of it after 10 years hmph.

i wanted to start with something easier. wsus seems a bit complicated. i tried to make it and sus work before but i had to give up. Im having another go. seeing as sus wont work suppose i might as well try wsus
-
trying to make sus on win2k server work with win2k workstations first of all had 0x80190191 errors. worked out hadnt sorted out permissions. did that. now getting 0x80190194 errors which im not really sure about. got sus log viewer. trying to use http://msmvps.com/blogs/athif/articles/66375.aspx to force updates but the reg keys dont seem to exist. and it dont seem to be working any ideas? thx 14:08 found the keys. seeing if its going to force check

mine too dispatched from amazon yesterday. :-|
-
Im not sure my NM will go for the non-cascaded option STP seems to be enabled already. must be on by default.
-
the ony problem with that is that there won't be enough gigabit ports to go around. at least with the cascading they're all connected together on gigabit. whats this stp thing?
-
i saw a free migration msg on wow last night, must be a pre burning crusade thing.
