been having a problem with my pc or router at home for a while but it's starting to really annoy me now and i want to get it fixed. 1 3com wireless dsl router 1 winxp sp2 pc every 6-24 hours my pc stops making new connections to the net. nothing works except existing bittorrent connections. no new ones are created. at the same time my ex's laptop would still be working, although she never closes firefox. resetting the router fixes the problem. tried to no avail. changing dns on pc to isp ones. putting pc in dmz - connection lasted longer. updating the firmware. when i checked my pc this morning and the connection had died i noticed the software firewall was blocking loads of packets on sequential ports from the router. didnt have time to establish what these were. any ideas on what to check/stuff to try?

the folder is read only to all except admins but icons from software i or other domain admins appear or disappear at whim lol

have the startmenus on all the workstations redirected to a folder on a server through the group policy and in such a way that if i add an icon in the server it instantly updates on the workstations. Am i right in thinking this is the correct way to do it? its just that there's a vast amount of startmenu SMB traffic on the server and i'm wondering if its contributing to problems where the startmenu/machines lock up for like 15 or so seconds periodically

try this A Beginner's Guide to HTML done with IE and notepad while one wouldnt expect a beginner to code an entire website in notepad it's good to have some idea how stuff works. even a most basic understanding will help. -
i dont mind staff phoning me up from home cos thats usually cash related lol. I take exception to my boss phoning me up at all hours of the day/evening. but he does. although i havent got a landline phone atm (amongst other things) and my mobile is usually on discreet so i've foiled him for the moment.

Setting up test scenario on Server 2003/Active Directory/GPO
browolf replied to tosca925's topic in How do you do....it?
make it connected to the internet so if they dont know the exact answer they can go and find out. then you can see their initiative if they dont know the answer. in fact pick something pretty obscure. see how long it takes to find the answer on the internet. -
staying well away from domain controller role lol. gonna test out sharepoint server. thx.

if i install a 2003 server, i can stick it in a 2000 domain and it wont break anything?

the old linkshell was empty and the new one they were only letting in lvl50+ and rank 5+ neither of which I have. The leader tried to get me in another one but that turned out to be lvl40+ which i dont have either :-\ warp is amazingly handy. especially for the quest for the crawlers nest map. y'know the stone tablets from selbina. i need to get rdm to 38 so i can run round valkurm and feel wanted lol. raising ppl. 1k gil a raise crazy parties. i'm blm'ing in kazham atm. i was in a party started by a rdm with a war sub who was meleeing. there's werent any whm's around at the time. needless to say ppl nearly died lol. i was keeping ppl alive with cure I i only have rdm sub. i gave him some cookies, repeatedly explained what they did and still he wouldnt use them. luckily got a whm after a while.

normal computers dont have encrypted traffic so if i make a test OU and put the laptop in it and somehow....force encryption off for that OU the laptop traffic should become visible.
-
so if i was to remove the DCs from the secured DCs OU then the traffic would become unencrypted?
-
westfield setup ipsec on our servers so laptops can connect to sims on the admin network. laptops and dcs are in "secured" OUs. they have group policies with ip sec settings in. some laptops are logging on uber slowly today but if i try and sniff the traffic it's all encrypted ESP. I've rememoved the laptop from the secured laptops and rebooted bou but the traffic is still being encrypted. is there anyway to get unencrypted traffic?

didnt i just say i already have a wireless gamepad (which has that functionality btw) i just never got to grips with it. i just started playing after not for 3 months. i'm so alone. my linkshell that i've been in since feb has changed again (like the 5th time)and now i dont have the requirements to get in either of the new ones. just doing the aspir quest. how tedious getting lvl 3 windy fame then finding the damned secret door then waiting outide the 3 mage gate for like 120mins until a random person went thru using the portal charm.

a lot of that stuff isnt stuff which is written down as such anyways.somethings are just random pieces of paper stuck to the wall lol. sounds like its more them finding stuff out than them 'inspecting'

i have a problem with vnccon where half the time it doesnt display red dots next to computers with vnc active. repeated scanning works sometimes. clicking on the computers still loads the window but its a bit useless otherwise.

we have ours separate wth a trust between them so teachers can access sims from their laptops. A 3rd party company manages the technical side of the admin network & sims. We suffer from the problems of having long established networks. c. 12 years and network managers who dont see eye to eye on some things lol. i'm of the opinion that its fine by me. I dont need even more work for no more money. cant trust teachers to be sensibly security conscious. teachers frequently let kids use their laptops with the teacher logged in and in extreme circumstances have been known to tell kids their password. doh!
-
you're right. and it seems to have fixed the problem. thanks.

i have domain users set to read on the share permissions and the security permissions. how does 'authenticated users' differ to 'domain users'? this is win2k server btw

i have these errors e.g. 16:21:32 event 301 The assignment of application Macromedia Flash Player 8 from policy testinstalling succeeded. 16:21:48 event 102 The install of application Macromedia Flash Player 8 from policy testinstalling failed. The error was The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it. . i found a suggestion that it might be that the machine accounts dont have permissions to the share where the file is being installed from.
