I think context is key with the rule about turning left in front of cyclists / passing vehicles on the left. If I am cycling along a free-flowing road and the car in front of me indicates, I'm not about to pass them (even though the guidance appears to allow this). Where the guidance helps is with drivers overtaking me and then immediately turning left in front of me because they didn't want the 1 second delay of staying behind me until the junction. Another place the guidance is relevant is when cars are at a standstill and cyclists are filtering past on either side (which they're allowed to do), it reminds the driver to check their mirrors before turning when traffic flow resumes.

Cloud Based Digital Signage - Low Cost or even Free
enjay replied to garethEds's topic in Cloud Services
+1 for Screen Cloud with Amazon Fire Sticks in each screen (just don't use the Amazon-branded mains adapter, so students don't realise there's a Fire Stick in the back of the screen!). Price is about £125/screen/year off the top of my head. Interface seems good although I don't actually use it myself. Very scalable, as you can create "playlists" so the same element can be used on multiple screens without repeated configuration. Very quick to add new screens too - plug in the Fire Stick, install the Screen Cloud app, enter a code to register it to your account, then walk away and leave marketing team to it. -
Have you had that reassurance from ESS? One of my concerns is they could start paring back so only Parent Pay Group companies work properly with "next gen SIMS". The CMA are presumably concerned about that too, hence their investigation!

That was my point. My data, my choice. If I want to use Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Portal, see targeted adverts, and in so doing have my data processed overseas where it is potentially available to the FBI, I should be allowed make that choice. I'm unclear why it comes down to Government telling Meta they can't process data I voluntarily give them.
-
Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't get why it is up to the Government whether I can share my personal details with Facebook and have them processed overseas. I doubt Meta are actually going to withdraw from EU, or even separate data farms. I think the point they're trying to make is "unless Governments sort themselves out, we'll have to do this terrible thing (and think of the social and economic consequences of that), so please pass a new law". It's blackmail to governments to replace the the Privacy Shield with something which allows international commerce.

Previous rounds of devices were enrolled in DfE's InTune MDM, which included installation restrictions, filtering, etc. When ordering the latest batch you would have ticked a box saying you accepted responsibility for setting up filtering before giving them to students. We'll be enrolling them in our own InTune.

Doubt it. Ours is looking at a mix of OUs and groups, 14 in total.

We got the email too, about 4pm on Friday. Not sure how I overlooked it when I checked that mailbox earlier!

Nothing here yet, but I'll keep an eye out for it.

Are you sure the issue is Papercut not AD? Just recently (last 10 days or so?) our AzureAD and Salamander syncs have both stopped running, we restart the server (application, not AD server) and they re-sync and are then fine for a few days. Could this be a (less severe) impact of the January updates??

That's what we do, too. Students create a folder for each subject and share it with their teacher (this used to be manual, now it is automated as part of our Cloud Design Box installation).

[ms office - o365] Disable junk filter on individual mailboxes
enjay replied to enjay's topic in Office Software
@Oaktech Your rule suggestion is working a treat for disabling the junk folders for specific users, so thanks. It doesn't solve my issue with LA emails, but that's another topic! It's literally another topic - this one in fact http://www.edugeek.net/forums/security/177589-phishing-spam-emails-168.html#post1938932 -
It is definitely better than it was, but there are a few things I jump into "proper" Word/Excel to do because Online can't do them. Section breaks is one recent example; I have a document where I want the first two pages to be landscape and the rest of it portrait. Online is happy working with this document once set up, but it can't create it.

Or Office365. We're launching a 1:1 laptop scheme here, and I'm oddly tempted by Chromebooks to keep the cost down, even though we're Office365.
-
Unless you have MFA or SSO, when you can't log in. Instead users have to create/sign in with a personal Google account then add a second profile in Chrome for their school account (then IME, get confused about the two Google Drives and end up not being able to find any documents).

[ms office - o365] Disable junk filter on individual mailboxes
enjay replied to enjay's topic in Office Software
Thinking about it @Oaktech you're right, we can do that. Our LA emails don't go to spam folders, they get pulled a level before that and quarantined before they even hit the users' inboxes (!), and that's why we get an alert. The rule you suggest would stop the emails ending up in junk but wouldn't nag my team about them. -
You've got 4 weeks still - it is 5pm on 1st March, not February. I've been holding out for some of the HP 255s which other people on here are getting, but all that's available whenever I checked is the Dynabooks. Edit - logged in just now, and HP 255 were available! I've ordered the rest of my allocation, let's see what arrives...

[ms office - o365] Disable junk filter on individual mailboxes
enjay replied to enjay's topic in Office Software
We've already got that in place for emails from our LA, as O365 hates their secure email system so junks literally every one of their emails! The reason I don't want to repeat that set-up is it generates an alert for all O365 admins any time the rule is triggered. One of the accounts we want to do this for is the main office@ email, and that receives a "junk" message every few minutes. -
[ms office - o365] Disable junk filter on individual mailboxes

Does anyone know of a way to disable the junk filter for individual mailboxes? We have a few accounts where messages are transferred elsewhere via POP3 (our own IT Helpdesk, for example) and these miss emails which get filtered as junk. I understand the additional risk of this, and relevant staff will be advised accordingly. -
We've recently had our allocation extended too. I went on the website a few days ago to see what was available, but it was only the Dynabooks. I went back today, and I'm still only being offered the Dynabooks. I'm not sure I want to risk an order in the hope they get swapped for Lenovo 300e in case they actually send me the Dynabooks!

They have an 8 year replacement cycle though. Do you get 8 years off the HPs? Also they use AirPlay to project, so don't have our expenditure on replacement HDMI cables! I recently worked out over the last two years I've bought basically as many replacement HDMI cables for classrooms as we have teachers. I'm probably going to issue each teacher their own HDMI cable now instead (and hope they don't mash the face plates by constantly inserting/removing cables!) - - - Updated - - - Are those the ones where the charger is the same size and right next to the audio jack?

Has anyone used the bulk address validation and/or tidy and merge tools in SIMS? We're considering running them, as it would simplify a few things for us re. sibling links and the "house icon", but have been burned by SIMS before now, so I wanted to hear your experiences of it before we click anything. Thanks.
