The OKI C8600 costs £1166.59 through a supplier i use and has won an award with PC Pro. Small form factor and seemingly economical. Should do the trick i think.

Anybody out their have dedicated workstations (PC or MAC) that they use for digital video editing. If so can they recommend a spec and what editing software do you use. Any advice much appreciated

We had them in to demo the other day and they have over 300+ sites. They are also in 30 different authorities. Out of all of the 'sales' people that they have had in they were the best. Not in terms of selling, but rather in expalining the whole concept from inital planning to full blown VLE. Another thing that impressed is they seem to be flexible to requests and have made changes based on suggestions from schools. The internet filtering can be black list but they also do white list, that was suggested by a school near us - Spring Hill in Rochdale. Another feature is resource booking and help desk!!! Don't forget that most VLE's only have sims data inwards and capita have held onto the necessary stuff to facilitate 2 way traffic.

Our school is fully inclusive and has a number of students with dasabilities and some use their own laptops that have modifications on them to allow for easy use. What is the position on joining these to a school domain? Licencing, security, virus etc.. Anyone in a similar situation where pupil owned laptops need to join the domain.

We are looking at all options currently and had Fronter in this week. They were very vague but answered most questions with 'yes'. As Grumbledook says it may be better to go with the group and share (steal) resources than have your own setup. One thing that springs to mind is what happens if your moodle/frog person up sticks and goes. Can their work be carried on. Another + point for Fronter was the remote hosting, no additional expensive server purchases or hardware downtime that you can be blamed for. Not saying that we are looking to go the Fronter route, just one of its + sides for us.

I had them at 30 and i can tell you it was not the nicest 3 weeks of my life. Good diet though because i could only eat yoghurt for the first week. Currently we use remote desktop on XP pro PC's to remote into out PDC, logging in with the Administrator account. My problem is that i need to stop my techies using the administrator account for priversy reasons. When i try to use a different account that is a member of the domain admins group i get the follwong error; "terminal server has exceded the maximum allowed connections" Is there a way in Windows 2000 server that i can change the name of the account that logs into terminal server?

Not sure how many dedicated VLE/MLE or Web developers are out there in schools but what happens with these people and BSF? Are they going to be transfered? I know i saw in a post that managing VLE/MLE was part of the BSF proposal.

I need to change the permissions on the HKLM software - Sophos folder in the registry so that Administrator is included and has Full Control and Read (for some strange reason administrator does not have these rights) so that i can upgrade my Sophos AV from version 4 to 6. Anybody got a script that can do this, or point me in the right direction to gaining one as i have over 300 + machines that need it doing on. Cheers

OK i know this has been done to death but is their a 'free' solution out there for a Server 2000 only Domain. We were looking at limit login but it seems to need at least one 2003 domain controller (unless you know different). Cheers

I'm surprised that you've only just found out. Thought the Ramesys contract and takeover of techies was common knowledge? You are right, your contract will be Tuped accross. Would be interested to here anything about changes to your role etc.. I have a friend in a Manchester School who has been taken on in a 'different' role so that he can keep an eye on things for the school as well as a finger in the network so to speak.

Wish they were here, SLT decided to go ahead with them anyway as mocks and am doing them this week and next.

bossman, was just makeing sure that you were aware of Grumbledooks position. BSF is a big worry to us all and in the long run we will have to find our own position in the school, out sourced or re invented. Have a good weekend one and all

Bossman: I think you will find that Grumbledook knows so much because he is a member of his schools SMT as well as keeping his finger on the educational pulse. One of the good things about these threads is that they are a way of informing ourselves on whats happening when quite a few people are 'out of the loop' so to speak. For warned is for armed as they say. Its only doom and gloom if we let it happen without becoeming involved at school/lea level.
