Thats where the problem lies. Kids have a legit ban but other staff need them to have access.
-
Thats why i need a "legal" definitian so that i can create an AUP for Staff. The legal bit is the frightner so to speak.

What is the exact legal position in the following situation; member of teaching staff alows pupil to log in as them so that they can use the internet (the pupil is banned from playing games) BTW the school as yet dosn't have a policy about this thats why i would like to know if/what the legal position is i.e. data protection etc.. From this i will be able to create a policy for the SLT to decide upon.

OK got a issue that is probably real easy to sort. At home the head has IE7. When he logs onto the site through the login button the school calander image obscures the save appply and cancel buttons so he isn't able to ammend the front page news. Appart from change the olcation of the School Calander is there something else that i can do to prevent this?

OK this is still a problem. Done a repair, done a uninstall re install and fully service packed and updated. When you double click on an attacment it takes an age (at least 10 mins) to open. Anyone got anything?

Were about to go down this route as staff have had the same lame passwords since the begining of time. You get the usual whing like 'how can i remember a new password' and 'i use the same one here and at home and on the internet (FFS) With a VLE/MLE going to come online a am pressing the SMT to allow only secure passwords with alpha/numeric and special characters. If there is resistance i plan to hold a talk where i will show how easy it is for a pupil to 'hack' lame passwords. I will target a staff member with said lame password and ask some general questions such as: Do you have any children Boy or girl whats there name BINGO i've now got your password

OK a pc here has developed a very annoying problem. When you double click on a MS office (2003) file in explorer or Outlook it dosn't open and explorer hangs. Files WILL open in MS office apps if you go through the file - open route. Done a full virus scan and found nothing. Anybody got any clues? Googled it to no availe and as its the heads secretary it is now becomeing an issue.

If they want better salaries then let them have normal holidays like the rest of use full timers. Them when the kids are off they can have their meetings, do planning, have INSET days etc.. Trouble with that plan is they'd get under our feet.
-
Just what a member of our SMT said after going to a BSF meeting where the technical presence were negative to the whole thing. If i was outside this argument looking in i'd also see this.

visited a school in Hastings last year where they give pupil community service and for H&S reasons make them wear a vivid yellow jacket. The kids hate it. We have an isolation unit with cubicles but the kids will still play up no matter what.

Beating kids as punishment may be a deterent to the nicer kids but those hard core trouble makers no. I went to a very hard school with a structure that included prefects and monitors who could dole out punishments. Yes the nicer kids who stepped out of line only did it once but some kids just took the beatings and other punishments without changing their behaviour. I think what Russ was getting at was that some people can get into the habit of doleing out physical punishment and might 'get off' on it. We certainly had teachers who would hit out at kids in a total random manor for no apparent reason. That was a form of 'abuse'. Consistancy is the key. From the Head through the SMT and down to the teachers. I've seen ex NCO's in skills force run ragged. Kids just don't react to square bashing. One of the reasons why there is a high fallout in basic training these days.

Loaded the package and now want to add custom banner and switch off the colour switcher. Loaded new "your school name goes here" logo as header.phg in /templates/eg_default/images as per wiki but it dosn't show. Thought it may be because colour switching is on so as per wiki went to templates index.php but it dosn't have the code. Should i be looking somewhere else and if so whats the path?

Were a foundation school and the SMT didn't have a clue if this was an option or not. If it was part of the 'finance' side of the package we would need to know.
