Might as well go and get my coat then ;( I do know of a school where they kept the NM in house with a slightly different job role to keep an eye on things so its not all doom and gloom. Suppose it just depends on how your school feels about you.

I feel that we will all have to be positivly pro active in this as Heads/SMT will not be as focused on the "minor" details of IT support in relation to the large carrott dangling in front of them. At the moment as well as your basic Networking for the school i am involved with CCTV, Cashless catering, door entry managment, SIMS and in the future telephony. Not to mention inovation in the class room. These things will probably not be a part of the managed service. Now that SMT are more aware of the managed service thing, i will need to make a case based on the other areas of my role as well as carrying on with improvements in support and moveing towards FITS.

Looks like i will have to start re positioning manovers

OK i could be flamed for being lazy here for not remembering or not looking for the answer to this question. BSF and foundation schools, whats the crack. Will it work differently. I ask the question as our head and SMT were blissfully unaware of the managed IT part of BSF and as i've raised the question with them they want some answers.

We're going ahead, mostly because of the work that has been put into it by the IT staff, SMT, exams and us. That will complete the 'pilot'. Then its a case of waiting to see what the LEA want us to do in the future. Like Beeswax my hearts not in it but after al the prep work the show must go on.

All in a tiz after i broke the news, no one seems to know what they should be doing. Surely there should be a directive ya or nay from the Dfes to the LEA and then down to the schools.

Am i in a minority here or just lucky. At my last school we had very little trouble installing and running the test from a technical view point. Just followed the instructions, checked the readme file and found RM very helpfull when we did have a problem Yes the interface is different but the kids (and they wern't the sharpest knives in the draw) got their heads around it far more easily than the staff- is that the problem? OK they may not have done very well but thats down to the piss poor way that IT is taught. Its got to be the most boring subject out there. I will miss it for the following The amount of time i am expected to do other peoples jobs who are involved with the exam. Because its ICT they seem to think that you need to be involved in every detail of the thing including training support staff, teachers and exams people in it and being sat in the exam room in case something happens.

So what will happen in this situation? Oldham are closeing 9 schools and building 7 new ones. 2 acaemies are being built and 4 of the old schools merged. Will the IT be out sourced because they are new builds or will they be safe.

Office 2003 Its not the web based ones i want to access because we turn the internet off for quite a few lessons. Its the clipart that is available on the local machine.

When pupils login and use MS Office they do not get the full complement of clip art images. When staff log in they can see them all. OK its a permissions thing i suppose but what permissions? In GP i block their access to the c: drive. Any ideas?

Simple question I think but will BSF and the whole outsourcing of IT support effect Academy Schools or will their special status mean that they do their own thing?

How about changing the admin password and locking the server consoles!!!!!!!!!! All the best working for the gov

We have a problem with kids embeding flash games in excel spreadsheets. Can't ban excel !!!!!!! Mainly 6th formers so we got the head of 6th form to read the riot act and explain that it is a privelege to be alowed to use a pen drive, not a right.

so why do you get a print option when the test is complete?

Oh and thanks to RM the magnifier on XP throws a wobble on the latest DPS software. They advise to run it on 2000 if needed. Our school is an inclusive school so we are setting aside rooms for pupils who ned readers etc..

We are arranging for invigilators to be trained in the flight deck as well as seeing how the exam software works so that they will be able to assist the kids in the correct manor. Don't forget you will also have to factor in time to print out stuff at the end of the tests.

At my first school i was told that i had the "honour" of being the "only non teacher" to be allowed in the "common room" at break for coffee and biscuits. This was so that members of staff could approach me with their problems. At Christams and the end of summer term i was the only non teacher allowed to the staff buffett. I never went out of principle. Things chaged when a new burser was appointed who beleived in team work etc.. Even then some of the older staff were seen to frown upon us mere mortels in their common room. At my last school all staff mixed freeley in the staff room and we had free coffee/tea and toast in the morning prepared by Sue the tea lady. This helped greatly in the communication between staff and there was little use and them. At my current school there is a staff room but each faculty has its own office so they tend not to use the staff room. As i've not been in post very long i find getting to know staff is a bit more difficult. However we always try to be friendly and you just ignore the staff who think they are a cut above you because they have a degree. If someone openly suggested to me that that was why they were better than me i'd just show them my Masters in marketing. That would probably shut them up !!!!

Sure the answer is somewhere on the forum so sorry to repeat the question. I have created a new default mandatory profile and despite my best efforts i can't get it to stop file sync when the user logs off. Well thats a bit of a white lie because if i log into the machine as admin and desable file sync and offline files then when the new user logs in and then out they don't sync. Trouble is i don't want to have to go around to 500+ machines and do this. Is there a group policy setting that i can apply or another way?

Don't forget that SIMS does not work/has not been tested with Vista and Office 2007 so don't buy any admin machines

Why when M$ ripped Netware off for its AD did it not clone the restore facility? So much a help when people lost files, quicker than looking through tapes.
