OK i know this one has probably been done to death and yes i could have done a search of the site for the answer but i'd like a fresh view on this. Basicaly got an email from out head of ICT saying that our 6th formers are going to fail there course if they can't access pen drives (apparently its a part of the course that they use them - they have to show evidence of backing upto removable media) Now i've had to restrict pen drives and other media because we got confikered and even through we are patched up and upto date i don't ever want to go through that kind of experience again. We still get pendrives coming in to be scanned that have the bloody thing on them. Are there any of you guys who DO NOT allow removable media who have alternatives for courses that imply that pupils need to use them?

Did you know that before using electrical equipment the user must do a visual check to ensure that it is safe!!!! You can knit pick over PAT testing. It is a necessery evil that can be carried out by a competant person (i.e. not an electritian but someone who is competent to test electrical equipment - visualy and with a testing device)

PAT Training Services are good but they will want to sell you a PAT tester. PAT testing is a summer job if you've got no new kit or other stuff to do. If you can do it with someone else to releive the bordom.

Closed but not informed until after the time i would usualy set out. Didn't set out as any fool could see that that amount of snow would mean closure. Feel sorry for anyone who set off earlier to battle their way into school only to find it closed.

No their not!!! Heads and LEA not happy with Assimilate and looks like they will have to look elsewhere (Uniservity anyone?) Can't beleive we got to the signing on stage before we the customer got to see Assimilate only to find out that it dosn't do what the output specification asked for Good job a key decision maker is retiring, how their alowed to get away with this is beyond me

To late ZAK! Only one school questioned the whole thing and in the end BSF assimilated us as well. GATT, BSF isn't the problem its the managed service that bolloxes us up.

Rochdale BSF through Capita IT services is looking at this model. Fat client for high end and thin clinet with home access to apps in school/central service. Seem to be the prefered model for Capita IT BSF projects.

Yes just a 'ladder' to plant some kind of time paradox to bring back the master. Also thought the incidental music was louder than the dialog. Could be my age though as the 2nd doctor was my first!!!!

Thanks, managed to find it and it is invite only. Head is now doing a u turn on this, can't blame him realy as the LEA are putting presure on him to sign up. Looks very difficult to do a APCD and get it through. The only other option would be to pull out altogether and miss out on the money.

What if your school has signed up to the managed service, you've been TUPED and then your school dosn't get a re build or refurb due to the monies being pulled by a change of government. Our school is in the position where the IT staff are going to be TUPED in 2012 but building work won't start till after that date. If the money was pulled for the build would the managed service have to provide a infrastructure update? In a recent meeting they specifies CAT6 in new build and refurbs. Also does anyone have any idea over legacy kit. Say a proportion of PC's are 4-5 years old and they DON'T accept them into the managed service then where does the cost of replacement come from. Will the school loose some of its 'pot' of money to buy from the managed service catalogue. Any advice, pointers or links will be much appreciated.

"If you are not having a rebuild or refurb you are not in BSF. So no need for managed service." Thats the key, they make you sign up for the service with no guarante that you will get a new build or refurb if it all changes (gov/economy) were phase 3 of the build so if the Torys pull the plug we could end up with same old school but managed service. If this is the case who pays for the cable upgrade?
