Anybody in the Rochdale, Greater Manchester area available now for a week or two's donkey work to pull me out of a hole? Person will be paid by school to fill a gap in IT support so that we can complete the implementation of projects that against our best advice they decided to implement now. Our IT teacher says that as part of the course the kids need access to things such as the desktop, recycle bins, right click and many other features that we turn off. Apparently they have to use these and produce evidence of use for their course. Have any of you come accross this and how did you facilitate it? Suppose i'll end up having to create an OU in AD with weaker policies as well as a new workstation profile.

The problem is sorted. Since both dns servers were not resolving the names for external sites therefore added CLC top dns external servers as forwarder for both these servers and dns resolution now appeared to be fine. Why it didn't come accross i don't know.

Just upgraded my domain from 2000 to 2003 (no laughing please). 2 brand new AD controllers, same IP addresses as previouse DC's but new names. Migration of AD from 2000 to 2003 seems to be ok apart from a strange internet problem. Connect to the LEA internet via an inhouse ISA server running websense. This is down stream from the LEA proxy server. We can't connect to the internet through the ISA server anymore, we get the follwoing message; "Technical Information (for support personnel) Error Code 11001: Host not found Background: This error indicates that the gateway could not find the IP address of the website you are trying to access. This is usually due to a DNS-related error. Date: 07/08/2008 12:54:29 Server: websense-whs.school.local Source: DNS error " We can ping the the ISA server by IP and name which leads me to thinking that DNS is ok on the network - but could be wrong We can access the net from the ISA server. If we change out proxy address to the LEA then we can get the internet (hense i am able to type this) but we can't access out POP3/SMTP email host. Any clues or ideas??

I actualy did it the other way. Moved from private to state school. Things i noticed - state school was very much more noisy!!!! Pupil behaviour was worse. Staff were nicer, less up themselves. Staff on both sides were a mix of abilities, don't think it makes any difference, a teacher is a teacher. On the state side the network infrastructure was better due to Ngfl funding. Internet was faster and better filtered. PC suites were better on the state side but i know for a fact that the school i left has done major upgrades to everything due to poor private sector ofsted report (6 1/2 years ago) I left because the head of IT (a teacher who did it as a hobby) was a right t%%ser. Don't regret leaving but due to BSF would always keep an eye out for a private school sector job.

Using Outlook 2003 to access a simple POP3 email system. One of my users keeps getting asked for a password when they try and receive mail. We've changed their password on the POP3 server and the local host so that they are the same and it still asks for a password. If you type in the same password as the POP3 account you still get the box poping up. Any ideas out there?

The Howgarth Stuff is really good once you get into it. Loved early Marillion but find it a bit dated now. Great live though.

You will know their stuff without knowing them. They are used for loads of TV jingles as mood style music. Also going to Blackpool with the Mullett Man to see them.

Anybody got some pro forma sheets that they use? That would be a great help. Many many years ago Novell had a handbook that you used to document your system.
