We are looking at trying to opt out on the basis that the managed service dosn't offer best value over our existing systems. Can anyone shed some light on the following queries; If legacy kit isn't transfered who pays for replacement? The managed service or does it come out of the pot of money being offered to schools in an LEA? If for what ever political or economic reason your school is not re built or refurbed but you are signed upto the managed service - who would pay to bring your existing network infrastructure upto date. i.e. replacing cat5 + cat5e with cat6 - managed servie or school money If you were succesfull in not buying into the managed service how would the school get on with integrated MIS and other stuff? How do the managed service calculate staffing levels? If they have one on site techie how do they deal with instant multiple teaching and learning problems. Any solid advice is most welcome.

Meeting next week (16th) to be briefed on Managed Service for Rochdale Techies

At my last school we ran a 'hardware' club called computers dont Byte. We had some old PC's and taught the kids H+S, what the components were, what they did, how to build a PC, basic DOS + preping a drive for an OS. The last week was trouble shouting where we did things to the PC's and they had to find out what was wrong. Each pupil had to record what they had learnt in a portfolio and we also did guides and handouts.

Anyone in Rochdale want some news about this PM me, update from RASH meeting on friday
-
Which module is best to start with? Network, Admin or O/S
-
In Rochdale it is confirmed as CITS and Ramesys
-
I know Molex do them as i use them to save space in cabs
-
Should imagine you'll stay onsite until your new build is completed as they will need your Novell skills sets until the new kit is in situe. Might speak to my contacts in Manchester where Ramesys won the IT contract.
-
Join the club. Sadly it also looks like the end of your Novell network

Thought i'd google it and found this link Rochdale BSF win for Carillion - News - Project Datafile

Any views on this? Are Ramsys doing the IT or will it be Capita?

Anyone got frog live to work with mandatory profiles?

We have had IRIS here for 2 terms. I can vouch that the technical support is good and also prompt. Most data problems are because SIMS data is not correct. My only bugbear is that every time we make a change to the timetable we have to run IRIS reports and upload the data to the web server. If this could be automated like Frog Server does then it would make my life easier. The staff seem to like it as well as they put there sanctions and rewards in at home. Just spotted this "3, Automated data transfer from your MIS to IRIS." How do i get this?

accessing content from a copy of a site
e_g_r replied to e_g_r's topic in EduGeek Joomla 1.0 Package
what folder structure would the DB files be in? -
Is it possible to extract content from a site that you have created when it is abcked up as files on your PC without going through the process of makeing it live (i.e. installing an apache server, PHP and MySQL. If so where are the text content held?

Can anyone help a non script person with this? History we had a Edugeek Joomla 1.0 website hosted on a cobolt rack server. This has been retired and we now have a cpanel web host package. Problem When i come to re install our website i get a Session save path unwritable, not set on the pre installation check screen. If i go past this i get the following errors on step 2; Warning: fopen(sql/sample_data.sql) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /data03/whsadmi3/public_html/installation/install2.php on line 135 Warning: filesize() [function.filesize]: stat failed for sql/sample_data.sql in /data03/whsadmi3/public_html/installation/install2.php on line 135 Warning: fread(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /data03/whsadmi3/public_html/installation/install2.php on line 135 And an error log, the top bit of which is below; SQL=Table \'jos_banner\' already exists SQL=-- phpMyAdmin SQL Dump\n-- version 2.6.4-pl1\n-- http://www.phpmyadmin.net\n-- \n-- Host: localhost\n-- Generation Time: Jun 26, 2007 at 04:13 PM\n-- Server version: 4.0.20\n-- PHP Version: 4.3.11\n-- \n-- Database: `edugeek`\n-- \n\n-- --------------------------------------------------------\n\n-- \n-- Table structure for table `jos_banner`\n-- \n\nCREATE TABLE `jos_banner` (\n `bid` int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment,\n `cid` int(11) NOT NULL default \'0\',\n `type` varchar(10) NOT NULL default \'banner\',\n `name` varchar(50) NOT NULL default \'\',\n `imptotal` int(11) NOT NULL default \'0\',\n `impmade` int(11) NOT NULL default \'0\',\n `clicks` int(11) NOT NULL default \'0\',\n `imageurl` varchar(100) NOT NULL default \'\',\n `clickurl` varchar(200) NOT NULL default \'\',\n `date` datetime default NULL,\n `showBanner` tinyint(1) NOT NULL default \'0\',\n `checked_out` tinyint(1) NOT NULL default \'0\',\n `checked_out_time` datetime NOT NULL default \'0000-00-00 00:00:00\',\n `editor` varchar(50) default NULL,\n `custombannercode` text,\n PRIMARY KEY (`bid`),\n KEY `viewbanner` (`showBanner`)\n) TYPE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=1: As i said i'm not into scripting at all so ANY pointers in plain speak would be much appreciated. I have tried some of the solutions i found in google but they don't always make sense.

Just trialing it and the staff love it. Price is god as well so it looks like we'll be buying it.

Got a problem on hust a few PC's. When the user logs in it fails to map their home drive. Sometimes if they log out and back in or restart then they can map. Have tried changing card settings, repacing patch cables etc. but seems to make no diffeence. Getting to be a bit of a problem
