Moving from Exchange 2003 so installing Exchange 2010 on Server 2012. Microsoft has the Exchange install DVD listed as with SP1 so am I best to merge Exchange SP3 with the DVD contents so making an SP3 install or can I go ahead and install DVD as is and upgrade the SP3 after? Thanks.

It's now been fixed but the problem was what we all thought.. Capita's firewall. Thanks everyone

Strange thing is I can send mail to other Leicester schools fine, it's just outside of the EMBC network that's the problem.

Yes the IP has changed and all settings are correct, well I didn't need to change anything this end as all mail is sent through relay.inthehive.net. Capita have the new IP and mailmarshal has the new IP listed as our exchange server so the problem must be with the Capita's relay.

Just what I thought. I wasn't at that school today but spoke to Capita on the phone and they want me to restart the onsite exchange box. Just time wasting!

Since the school has changed its subnet Exchange 2010 has been having problems sending and receiving emails but I don’t think the problem is this end but at Capita's end. No emails are being received. I can send emails to other EMBC schools but I am unable to send emails to people outside the EMBC network as I get 550 fail message relaying denied from mx01.inthehive.net. Capita thinks the problem is in our Exchange box but I would argue that if I can send to other schools ok but not anyone else then the problem must be at Capita's end as all email is routed through Openhive. I've checked the exchange settings and I can't see anything that would cause any problem. Am I missing something here or is Capita trying a fast one?

I'm not really sure what to look for but I see there are a lot of 5744 and 1004 errors at that time.

Don't know if I dare to log off now after reading your post but as it happens I did install the windows updates before making the NIC change. I rebooted and all was well till I removed IPv6 but I've done this other times with no ill affect.

I think I'm almost there. Clients can connect to the server now and I can ping the server from my pc and get the correct IPv4 address but pinging the server from the server still gives the IPv6 address unless I use the ping -4 servername which then I get the IPv4 address. DNS still has the old reverse lookup zone listed and not the new zone.

Servers come back up and the NIC settings are correct so it must be because I disabled IPv6?

I didn't change the DNS settings on the NIC! Hold on yes I 'm sure I did. I'm starting the server using the last known good config now so fingers crossed!

It's now been 65 minutes and I'm starting to bite my nails!

No VLANS.

There is only one DC and I can't logon to it to make any changes. Before the restart I could ping the gateway and the internet worked ok.

I checked and it was listed correctly

Why it is what should be a simple thing turns out into a headache of mammoth proportions? Server 2008r2 DC. Due to a subnet change I need to change the address of the server. Should be a simple thing right? I thought so. I make the address change and setup a new DHCP scope but none of the clients can connect so from the server I ping the server but I get back an IPv6 address so I’m guessing this if why the clients can’t connect. I flush DNS, clear the DNS cache, restart the server but still no IPv4 address so I disable IPv6 on the NIC and restart. I go to login and now I’m getting “Please wait for the user profile service”. I give it 5 minutes and crash out and try booting into safe mode so I can enable IPv6 again but it won't accept the password. I restart the server normally and try to log in and get the “Please wait for the user profile service” which it has been stuck on for 40 minutes now.

Digging up an old thread but I'm setting up a new virtual sims server over the holidays and not sure which version of sql 2012 to go with. It's for a primary school 3 admin and 10 teacher machines. Discover not used yet but expect it's use more over the coming year. Teachers doing registers only. Thanks in advance

Right thanks, I'll have a look for that file when I'm back there next week. One good thing that will come out of this is that they won't ask me to import the data again

There's one data file called eProfile.db and if I move this the whole database will go. I want just to move pupils that are in the wrong cohort.

Last week I exported a class list from sims and imported it into eprofile. Not ever done this before I imported it into the wrong cohort. No one noticed and teachers entered data against the pupil's names. Now the problem has been spotted and we're wondering how pupils can be moved to the correct cohort without starting again?

Thanks guys but getting this done before the holidays is looking like a non starter as Capita haven't sorted out the filtering for the new scope yet, but that said it's probably better for me to wait and take my time anyway.

I don't know if it is a leased line as we had fibre and that was replaced with a pair of copper lines and I remember the BT man talking about SDSL as he installed it. We were paying £10k for the fibre line and now using copper it's dropped to a round £5-6k which includes the filtering and web hosting.

Does that price include things like web and email filtering or web hosting as we're paying around £6k for a 10Mb line?
