It was awful today and at times I had myself convinced someone had pored treacle in the router! Seriously though I've been having problems with Capita's web hosting for a while now and this week has been really bad. At times our site was taking 25 seconds to refresh or I was getting http 504 errors. I've convinced myself to move hosting now and started the ball rolling.

Would that be the medium package as listed here https://www.vidahost.com/cloud-web-hosting

Out of interest which package are you using? I see their starter package at £29 would do us as our Joomla site is less than 100MB when I run a backup and we don't need anywhere near 25GB of bandwidth either.

Old thread so thought I'd ask here to see if there were any updates on this as I'm thinking of moving my schools hosting to Vidahost. Just has a look around their website and it looks good as do their pricing. Capita are hosting our site at present and been told its costing best part £300 pa so moving to Vidahost would make a big difference. I'm now unable to login to either of my joomla sites as it's giving an 500 internal server error but at least the internet is up now!

Had a couple more problems yesterday. First the school website went down and after checking further many other city schools were down as well , then later on I was unable to ftp to our website. It doesn't sound like much but I'm wasting lots of time over simple things like that.

I didn't know file protection would work while the VMs were running as in the past I shutdown the VMs and did an export but I could only do this in the holidays as it takes a while. The server is running 2012 but not the r2 version so exporting a running VM is not an option but it would be nice to have.

I'm using BackupAssist already with the method set to drive image aka bare metal. Is that incorrect?

So the general consensus is not backing up the host so to take one of my schools as an example, what would be the best method of backing up the VM's as I have a host that only runs hyper-v. How would I ensure the VM's are backed up without exporting or stopping the VM while the backup is taking place? There isn't a cluster just a sole hyper-v host.

One of my schools uses Kaspersky and the other has Eset and Eset wins hands down for ease of use and not slowing down the machine. The price of Eset was very reasonable at £3 per machine for a 3 year licence and when the Kaspersky finishes next April I'll be replacing it with Eset. Just hope they haven't increased the price too much when the time comes.

Restarted again and this time powered down the server and waited a few minutes longer after restart. This time everything came back as it should and all VM's and hyper-v manager working properly again.

Thanks guys. I shutdown each VM in turn and tried to restart the hyper-v management service but it wouldn't stop so I restarted the server which took ages as it was stuck at 'restarting' for 15 minutes. It's now restarted but hyper-v manager still won't show any of the VM's. I'll report again when I've had another look.

Came in this morning to find an email from Backup Assist saying last nights backup failed. I've had the odd email like that before so thought nothing of it as it always works again the next night without any intervention. Later I needed to test some software before deploying it so I opened hyper-v manager to fire up a windows test VM. Everything looked fine and the VM tried to start but got stuck at 10%. After waiting a few minutes I closed hyper-v manager and opened it again but now hyper-v manager won't list any VM's as it just says loading. All the VM's that are running work fine so I'm planning to shut all the working VM's down after school and restart the host but wondered if there's anything I should be aware of first. Digital Peak have made a new version called DPCalendar. With this one you can change the colours but it doesn't link to Google's calendar anymore but uses the Joomla database so you add new events by using the DPCalendar control panel in the backend. I put 6 ap ruckus system in one of my schools 18 months ago. Works great but now they want to extend the coverage but as the system is at the 6 ap limit with the current licence it makes it very expensive to add just one more ap so we just bought a bog standard ap and running it stand alone. Wish now we had gone down the unified route much easier and cheaper to extend the coverage.

With Unifi does the controller software need to be running constantly?

Doesn't your ISP offer a filter? So far I've been impressed with the filter BT have and It's one of the reasons I'm sticking with them.

Best thing I ever did was to leave VM. Now with BT using copper and have a slower speed down from 20Mb with VM to 17Mb with BT but the throughput is higher and I don't get buffering with youtube.

Anyone having problems with the Active Learnprimary site today? A number of staff have said they can't logon so I tried and it has taken me 6 attempts to get through the logon page.

I've been asked to look at podcasting software for use by KS2 pupils. I was under the impression podcasting was a KS3 requirement but there you go, you learn something new everyday! So what are you guys using in primary schools? I know very little about podcasting so would need something even I could use and it would need to run on a PC as there are no iPads here

Yes I've I received the same email as @lovelldr so I can only go on what Target Tracker say. Don't suppose there's any point installing 4.5.1 if I'm going to wait for 4.5.2 but what you say about having different versions of .net concerns me. Are you saying I should uninstall 4.0 before installing 4.5.2?
