Anyone know if School Cash Office has been made Java free yet?

We're currently using Backup Assist and have two methods of backup. 6 days a week BA does a file backup to NAS and the other day it does a bare metal backup to external HD which is rotated using 2 different HDs. The office copies the sims backup to an encrypted drive and takes it home, again using two different external HDs The HT would now like to use cloud backup and by a stroke of luck the LA has been offering RBUSS Plus but the prices are making my eyes water! 500GB of £1300, 1TB for £2600 and 1.5TB for £3500. Surely it can't be that expensive? I think we would struggle to fit everything into the 500GB version so leaves a nasty bill of £2600 pa.

A TA has bought in her Acer Aspire E1-532 laptop for me to look at as her son has set a BIOS password and now can't remember what it is. With desktops it's a easy matter of resetting the BIOS but I'm reluctant to take the case apart looking for the BIOS battery so was hoping some kind sole would share the best way to fix this

That sounds very useful and I will definitely give it a go on machines where PCE is not running. The main problem I have is auto update not updating. PCE is running and reporting back to the server but no sign of any updates. These machines are from the first wave and running 6.2.3.18 but the second wave was deployed using 6.2.3.22 via gpo with around 60% success so maybe your advice above may fix these. I don't know if anyone has come across this before but it seems completely odd to me. The HT has said PCE must be on all machines from now on, including the admin machines which I had previously excluded. Since this I keep getting random keyboard errors when remoting into other machines and servers. So say I've remoted into the DC to add a new user and I start typing the users name in ADUC. As soon as I get to the letter R the run box opens or if I type the letter E, Explorer will open. The only way I've found I can complete the task is to go back to my machine, type the name into notepad, copy it then switch back to the DC and paste it in ADUC. It has happened on 2 different server 2008 boxes and 2 win7 machines when remoted from my machine and has started since installing PCE.

We moved to v6 a couple of months ago and I'm struggling to get all the clients working. Some work fine but others wont report in or auto update. It's fair to say I have wasted a lot of time on this. Does anyone know how the costs of PCE compare against Impero say for 200 machines?

The account is public as the website shows a twitter feed and if the account was locked the feed wouldn't work.

The HT already blocked them before I could offer any advice so as far as I'm concerned that should be the end of it. We've only had Twitter running here for 2 weeks so still new and shiny

Yes you are both right but HTs being HTs get a little jumpy when they see things like this.

We have a parent follower on Twitter who has inappropriate language on their profile. The school does not want to be associated with this sort of language so the HT has asked what can be done to hide it. Would blocking the follower remove them from the school's followers list as I can see no other way to hide it?

It's working but very slow. Since 10pm last night we have had only 26 emails come through.

Of course I could be wrong but I don't think it's working!

I looked at EES when it first came out but it wasn't worth if then but as that was a few years ago and with Windows 10 round the corner I thought it was about time I looked at the figures again. When calculating FTE staff do I count TA's? All staff here have email including the cleaners (don't ask me why) and I know for sure some TA's don't use it so do I count them too? Information about ESS is very confusing and I've found a guide here How to calculate Microsoft's MS EES licence. - Spiceworks It's 4 years old so could well be outdated now so what I really need is a simple way to work out how many FTE staff when I ask our licencing provider for the price.

We have on site Exchange and I'll be moving to 365 in the autumn term so that will end our ties with Capita.

What is the address for Capita's support website that will have updates on the issue? Don't want to keep ringing them as yesterday I was in a queue for 5 minutes and I expect today will be a lot longer.

Support at Capita said it's a uk wide problem so expect the brown stuff to hit the fan if it's not fixed by tomorrow morning.

Anyone else have problems with openhive email? Both of my schools are without email since around 1pm and Capita say no eta on the fix.

That's right we buy the licences as and when. I did look into EES a few years ago but as the school has a high number of staff it wasn't worth it.

Thanks that's what I thought would be the best option. The HT will be pleased when I tell him the licences would cost over £800 for the full version so a big saving there.

The LA is installing SQL 2014 on our Sims server the summer and we have a choice of either full or express. At the moment we are running the full version SQL 2008 but I expect SQL 2014 will put more pressure on the already tight memory. I did intend to replace it this year but there's no money to do it. The server handles AD, DNS, DHCP, file, Exchange and Sims/FMS. We did get a smaller server from the Olympics and have moved AV, WSUS and print over to that as VM's and it's my intention to move to 365 soon so Exchange will be gone too. The school is a primary, NOR 450 or so with 17 classes doing e registers. The office has 5 people using Sims and FMS. Discover is rarely used now since changing to Target Tracker. The Sims.mdf stands at 1.2GB. The SQL memory usage is my biggest concern as at the moment task monitor is showing 4.3GB of memory for sqlservr.exe. On the performance tab I've got 2.2GB of available memory and 0.6 free. So which version of SQL should I go for? The LA says there might be a drop performance moving to express but can't offer anymore help in deciding.

Well yes I think all is well. I put the drive in and within 30 seconds the alarm was going off. I first thought the new drive was not compatible but after opening the RAID software it showed the new drive was rebuilding.
