Hello, Is it possible to turn off SmartInk in Internet Explorer but have it working when in Office 2016 Applications? It does seem to cause some IE login windows, pop up boxes etc to display white. This needs to be done via GPO, Reg Keys etc. Thanks
-
a bit of tidying from an old attempt and incorrect reg keys. thanks again
-
working now! thanks for your help.

Trying the Reg key, still not working.. What’s the relevance of the scope ID 7899..... If I manually add google as provider a different ID is created. Thamks

Thanks, I currently have that reg file for HKCU, Is the Local machine setting important here?
-
How about for ie11? Thanks
-
sorry should have said we are using IE11. fyi, we also set that GPO in case we use Edge: https://www.google.com/searchdomaincheck?format=opensearch that doesn't work either.

yes the permissions are backed up but the copy/paste restore process means it will be assigned the permissions of the destination folder. I suppose there is an xcopy with permissions scripting option but that's a bit crap eh? what cloud backup solution do you use? Thanks
-
Our current cloud backup is ££££ so I’m looking at Azure, all looked good during the test, create a vault on the portal, install the MARS agent on a server, setup a backup job......but it does not offer to backup/restore folder permissions. I don’t understand, what is the Azure method of backing up files and folders and their ntfs permission?

It’s a Pegatron https://www.stonegroup.co.uk/hardware/desktops/mini/ This is from power on Do you purchase from Stone?
-
does anyone use Stone Computers mini PCs? I was wondering if you’ve had any problems with display *sometimes* not showing out of the HDMI port or Display Port? It’s very erratic, Stone can’t replicate it and we can’t narrow iit down to any pattern, we don’t really have a fix when it happens. Very annoying when the projector/monitor setup in a classroom needs it to work. It doesn’t show anything, no POST, nothing, so it’s not windows drivers. We’ve updated the BIOS etc. Trying different cables, powering off, unplugging things, leave it a while.....then it will work, then we can’t break it again. One of those. Thanks

Thanks, why do u recommend that version? is that the slimmest windows 10?

Import-Module "C:\Program Files\WindowsPowerShell\Modules\NTFSSecurity\AlphaFS.dll" Thanks sorted...
-
Thanks, how do I install that?
-
I have downloaded the 'File System Security PowerShell Module 4.2.3' Copied it to my Powershell profile paths $env:PSModulePath: C:\Users\me\Documents\WindowsPowerShell\Modules C:\Program Files\WindowsPowerShell\Modules C:\WINDOWS\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Modules C:\Program Files\SharePoint Online Management Shell\ The module is listed in: "Get-Module -ListAvailable" But running a simple command gets the error: Get-NTFSAccess : Could not load file or assembly 'AlphaFS, Version=2.1.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Hello, we use Sophos AV on our windows 10 workstations and 2016 servers, does this completely replace the need for Windows defender and hence I should disable it? There's a GPO setting "Turn off Windows Defender Antivirus". I imagine it doesn't like 2 AV things running at the same time, although servers have Sophos on-access disabled. Thanks

We have lots of Stone Mini PCs. Plug in monitor with vga cable, and Bios and windows displays fine. Plug in a hdmi to dvi cable, with still just a single monitor, and neither shows. All, known good, cables and monitors. I’ve raised a call with stone but any ideas?

Anything you can plug a network cable in and it will display the IP address it picks up from dhcp?

Hello, our school has just bought Class Charts (EduKey) for behaviour, seating plans and homework. They are apparently launching SSO for staff account next week, but for students to login they allocate a random 8 digit mix of numbers and letters, which the student then needs to write down (too complicated to remember). No other authentication to login, just the code. It's 1995 all over again....surely this isn't right or legal. Surely this is going to be a massive PITA. They also have no 'code reminder', 'email me my code'. Just a message saying 'we cant help you, please contact your schools IT department'. anyone use Class Charts and can comment. Am I fretting needlessly?? Thanks

Can someone please suggest best practice deploying updated MSI's: 1. A client bit of software v1.1 is installed via GPO and MSI 2. The server side of the software downloads an update and auto updates all its connected clients to v1.2 Options: 1. Create a new MSI v1.2 for new machines to install, and then Uninstall the old MSI 2. Use the 'Update' part of the existing MSI install and add v1.2 to that? (this could have many many updates as time progresses) 3. Just replace the v1.1 MSi with v1.2 in the deployment folder? (issues with the # of the MSI, can you just replace the file in the same GPO?) It's Tutor Control client v9 BTW Ideas?
