Looking at VEEAM, I’ve installed the Backup and Replication server but restore seems unfriendly. I’m sure VM backup will be good but Most of our restore jobs are looking for a students deleted file, but they don’t usually know when it was deleted. The only way I can see VEEAM working is you choose the restore date first, then the file to restore, if you want to look at another restore date you need to redo the steps, resetting the view and folder path you are searching. Some of the files may be 20 subfolders down. Is there a way to see all the versions available of a file or folder? Looked at the enterprise manager and indexing but that’s still all about selecting the backup first. Maybe VEEAM isn’t the answer....

I posed the Q to Capita and they replied: Most users require no additional rights to their workstations to run SIMS.The exceptions to this are: - Exams Officer - Timetabler - Finance These users require at least full control permissions over the following files/folder locations (including sub folders): - C:\Windows\SIMS.ini - C:\Program File (x86)\SIMS or C:\Program Files\SIMS Is this really necessary? I imagine some GPO folder permissions things can be done if required.

Hello, back in the day staff were local admins of their computers to get SIMS to work properly, I imagine (?) this is now not the case. Can anyone advise/forsee any issues making staff users of their workstations? Staff in the admin office will complain I am sure as they are currently setup with full unfettered access, but why they need this level of access I am not sure. Thanks

Hello, many of our office staff are used to in IE send page by email (for SIMS reports) this is not a feature in Chrome, I'm telling them to ctrl A/C/V to copy and paste but is there something we can install in Chrome? Thanks

Hello, I am trying to get a feel for the kind of computer numbers we should be trying to provide for the number of (secondary school incl sixth form) students we have. I imagine we need to look at student accessible computers in IT and open access rooms, disregarding the 'teachers' computer in each classroom. I have read the government has removed the requirement but can anyone advise on some figures. Thanks

we use smoothwall, it really needs to be simple setup, drag and drop etc. I have looked at Serv-U, seems OK but not sold on anything really.

Thanks, foldr seems like something worth looking at. It obviously has a whole load of features, can it just be used to access files via a browser? I don't really want users sharing folders. Moving to the cloud is a whole thing, I will start a new Edugeek Q but how do you plan on pointing non Office applications at OneDrive, what about video editing? backup?..

I am using GPO to control Chrome. I want to prevent access to Chrome settings but allowing some settings sub-pages like 'clear browsing data' I have set a GPO block url for: chrome://settings and a GPO allow url for: chrome://settings/clearBrowserData this works, settings is blocked, but if you go to the (not blocked) clear browsing data page, underneath appears the main settings page which is then live. any ideas how to get this scenario working?

No I want to use GPO but I need to redirect bookmarks to the users network folders. Like folder redirection for favourites in IE GPO.

thanks, but how do you direct bookmarks to a network location. we would set a few but users can also add their own. the bookmarks need to then follow them to any computer. I also cant get rid of the 'import bookmarks' prompt on the bookmark bar. any ideas? Thanks

I am trying to install Python 3.7 to Windows 10 via startup script. I am running this: python-3.7.0-amd64.exe /quiet InstallAllUsers=1 AssociateFiles=1 PrependPath=1 Include_launcher=1 InstallLauncherAllUsers=1 it installs and seems to work but no entries for python or python launcher are in programs and features.... there also seems to be no corresponding values in reg uninstall keys If I run the file manually when logged in it all appears OK Other installs fine, always have been. Has anyone successfully deployed Python using startup? there is no MSI after about v3. Thanks

I have installed the latest patch on a few workstations (the one above has been replaced by another now) and yes Win10 shows this user 'settings page visibility' setting but despite the DC's applying the comparable 2016 update the domain group policy still does not show that setting.... any ideas?

Hello, can anyone tell me how they have deployed Chrome w.r.t updates and bookmarks? I know Chrome has many minor updates in the background but how is that going to work with MSI deployment? Do you install the latest version you can, prevent updates and periodically deploy a new version. or Do you install a version, hardly ever change this and allow updates. Then would that work if you ever needed to uninstall Chrome? The documentation says Bookmarks are difficult to manage how do you deploy these? Thanks

Hello, I currently have a 2012 R2 KMS host, all the clients are now Win10 and 2016 servers so I think it would make sense to move to AD authentication. 2 Q's: Once AD is setup and the old KMS host removed I am hoping all activated clients will just start looking at the AD for activation, no further config? How does this tie in with Office 2016 activation? Thanks

In fact even checking through windows update it doesn't find KB4458469. If I download from the update catalogue and run, it installs fine....

I have synchronised WSUS and searched for the update KB4458469 but it doesn't appear, does it take time to be released on WSUS?
