However, it is in, therefore I will watch it. The fact is that ALL the other athletes have knocked the footballers into a cocked hat. Look at the passion and commitment of our Olympians and contrast that to the boorish behaviour exhibited every week on the football pitch. Football could learn a lot from Athletics, Sailing, Rowing, Cycling, and every other Olympic sport.....but it won't.....and it will continue to be the awful abomination of a game that it once was. Anyway, loving the Olympics....and love my football! * This is a joke....and not meant to start a flaming war!

The thing that confuses me more is the racial stereotyping.... Not ALL black women are "big momma" types, and yet in successive adverts that is how she is portrayed.

I actually expected either the Ukraine or GB to counter the inquiry....but neither did. You can see the point though..... The Japanese gymnast hits his dismount.... It's just the way that he got there that was a bit, erm, unusual!! I was genuinely surprised that they got "0.7" of a mark back. Would have been better if it was "0.3 - 0.2". The dismount WAS clearly messed up....but he DID plant it! (Have you noticed how I genuinely seem to know what I'm talking about??? Olympics are fantastic for turning the armchair fan into an expert!!!!!)

Sadly, @Gibbo, economics has changed since our parents and grandparents day. Globalisation means that when Spain and Greece catch a cold, it soon goes round the world. I don't doubt your apocryphal story about Ford, but Brown WAS right (to an extent). Spain and Greece have had similar austerity measures to us, and they are circling the plughole, threatening to take Italy/France/Germany(?) with them. Germany may well be one of the biggest economies in the world, but they are not immune, and are getting a bit fed up of digging deep for everyone else. By spending, instead of saving, you inject capital into the system. By not spending, you weaken the system.

I remember I was reading the book on the train, on my way home from the Air Force, when I got to the hobbling part..... That is the only time that a book has made me gasp out loud.... Several of my fellow passengers looked at me strangely until I held the book up and said it was a scary bit!!

That seems to be a rather harsh appraisal of what was said, Either you've not paid attention to the answer you were given....or you just don't want to read it. As I understand it, @AMLightfoot said that the deposit was a loan arrangement between herself, her significant other, and her parents. Is this any different to someone taking out a loan for a deposit from the banks? (Other than a favourable interest rate!) Therefore, it is a bit nasty to suggest that "someone else put them there". This is one way that many people scrape together the deposit.....Are they ALL in the wrong?

Ahhhh...the old "jump on the housing ladder"! My fiancee and I get married in just under three weeks. We have started to discuss what we can do to buy a place together. Bear in mind that between us we have 3 kids (16, 13 & 7), and we have to realistically look at a large 3 bed. Around our area, there's nothing suitable for less than £120,000.... This means we NEED a minimum of £12,000 to even THINK about buying. Where do you get that kind of cash from? We could save, but we're looking at a minimum of 2 years saving. Therefore, to get a headstart, we decided that instead of having the traditional wedding list, we would have a "Wishing Well". I built this myself, and it is a repository for envelopes with cash/cheques! We have written a poem to go with the invites so that people know that we have everything we need for a house.....except our OWN house! Anything that goes in the box, whether it be a £5 or £50 will go into an account for our deposit. And when we do buy a house, our guests will be safe in the knowledge that we thank them and appreciate their help. Still makes me fed up when I see a house that would be perfect for us......but we haven't got the deposit!!

Indeed! Fantastic film that I highly recommend! On DVD too....not the Film4 watered down version!! Edit: Next one is from a film I saw last saturday.... Thomas: In a sense, you're a true Norwegian hero. Hans: No, you're wrong about that. There's nothing heroic about what I do. It's dirty work. It is a brilliant low-budget film, and another that I would recommend!!
