[sims] Urgent Capita SIMS Data Issue - Issued by childrens services
Banjo replied to vikpaw's topic in MIS Systems
We have a report that puts the students name and address into columns, next to contact 1 address, postacode, contact 2, address postcode. You can drop this into Excel or do it manually with a ruler. :-) Where they all match up you don't have an issue. Where 1 or more contacts have a different address to the student you MAY have an issue. If you have the old paper copies of the Contact Information Forms get them out and check for errors against this list. > If not then you need to reissue new contact forms ASAP. Optionally, you can create a UDF and flag each student identified with a 'potential issue' until you receive back their completed new contact forms and use this as a filter when sending out letters/reports. -
[sims] Urgent Capita SIMS Data Issue - Issued by childrens services

This should be interesting! Thank you for registering for "CTF - Contact Linking & Contact Addresses". This webinar is an opportunity to share information regarding the current CTF- Contact Linking & Contact Addresses issue. This will be facilitated using GoToWebinar by some of the senior management team of Customer Success. Due to the number of expected delegates during the meeting delegates will be muted but will have the opportunity to post questions. It looks like we won't be able to raise our voices at the Capita bods. CAPS LOCK will have to do. Happy to report back back any news. -
[sims] Urgent Capita SIMS Data Issue - Issued by childrens services
Banjo replied to vikpaw's topic in MIS Systems
What we have done is import a new report they we have built into schools db's and have asked the admin to run it. It should highlight any suspicious records held in the system. These will then need to be manually checked to ensure that the contact information is correct by issuing a new contact details form for the parents to fill in. At least this way schools haven't got to send out 1000's of them and check them all manually. Remember, Crapita 'commented out' the majority of the contact matching code in Decemeber 2017. Any CTF imported into the system since then could have mixed up its contacts with exisiting contacts of students in the system. Patching removes the 'REM' it doesn't fix any damage that has already been done since 2017. -
NOVA t6 - different cycles for different year groups
Banjo replied to Zcapw97's topic in MIS Systems
LOL - I think you’re playing very loose and fast with the word 'happily' :-) The easy answer is why are you TT the primary phase? 99.9% of primary schools don't go near any sort of timetabling software as most of it’s the curriculum is driven from the teachers medium term plans. You would have an unfeasible amount of rotations/carousels and changes, you wouldn't be able to keep up. I would talk to the HOS for the primary phase. I think you (or someone) is creating a lot of unnecessary work. -
I think that would be bad practice. When you start selectively deleting data on children that are still with you, ahead of the schools overall retention polices where does it stop? Do you delete all the detention records from last year, or their achievements from 2 years ago as you no longer need them? Much easier to get your data collection form right and have a consistent and coherent school policy on pupil data retention.

[sims] SIMS Migration to new server - fresh install
Banjo replied to superaz300's topic in MIS Systems
You will need to download the same version as what you have installed, these are available from the microsoft website. Use the Eval version and enter you licence key. We use Standard Edition for secondary schools and (free) Express for primary. I think you will need to uninstall the old version to stay within the licencing T&Cs. -
I read this slightly differently. As this information will no longer be in the cesnus export spec to the DfE, then any data already collected for these measures will fall under the current retention polices. If you were to collect this information in the future you would most likely need to jump through the hoops of 'consent', 'privacy impact assessents' and 'legal basis of processing' to continue to do so as these would now change.

Did you try the same network cable into both machines and also logging into the PC with same credentials and also the same into SIMS?
-
Well that depends on your privacy notice. If you have 'catch all' statements surrounding this data then it should not be a problem. the data will be used in school to; raise standards, performance management, school development, self evaluation, performance development, etc..... Staff training, if that's what the offline version of the data is for, will be covered somewhere in the long list above. Edit> Having said that, its not the best way to do things as people to do get loose and fast with training data.

Don't forget to move your DMS across. I usually map a temp drive between the old and the new servers to move the install\DMS files across. There is no harm is mapping the S: drive back to your new server. I've never had an issue with attaching an SQL 12 SIMS db to either SQL 14/16 or even to 17 (for testing) straight off. I've only used the migration tool when we have sheduled a move of a bunch of schools overnight. Its also worth downloading and installing SQL Management Studio is case for some reason the DB doesn't attach and gets 'hung up' and SIMS 'Db attach' won't remove it. I install SQL\Studio remotely from an automated script (section below), otherwise check to make sure you have the right settings\permissions enabled. /FEATURES=SQLENGINE,REPLICATION,CONN,BC /SQLSVCACCOUNT="SYSTEM" /SQLSVCSTARTUPTYPE=AUTOMATIC /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS="BUILTIN\ADMINISTRATORS" /AGTSVCACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITY\Network Service" /SECURITYMODE="SQL" /ADDCURRENTUSERASSQLADMIN=True /TCPENABLED=1 /NPENABLED=1 /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS

Clever marketing trick then :-) 160 isn't that many.

But Capita SIMS have 18,000 schools. 18+9= 27k and that doesn't include RM who are/were the 2nd biggest in the market. There are only around 23k schools in the UK. Is Arbor's user base mainly outside of the UK?
-
Maybe I'm reading this the wrong way, but I don't believe they have that many schools. "Why not join 9,000+ schools and get started with Arbor today? "

Request from non employee and non-LA access to FMS - Urgent

Can I ask who is appointment was to see and who invited him in to school on this day? What role function does he play at the other school? Sounds well dodgy to me?! -
Is it that report or any reports run via that workstation and that login? Get them to create a brand new report > add some data and press print. If there are still issues get them to move workstation and retry.

Building a test/training SIMS server on Server 2016 and SQL 2016
Banjo replied to MrWu's topic in MIS Systems
Copy the DMS across and change the name of the DMS server within SIMS. -
Easy fix. Contact your support team or Capita directly and ask for that latest files to be made available to download. Run these and away you go. If you have old files then it won't work and your wasting your time.
-
Have you spoken to your SIMS support team?

They have a fully underwritten rights issue going through. Thats £700mil in the 'Capita Piggy' bank straight away. The 'City' thinks they are a good for the money so must see a long term future for the company. 'Other' service companies had their line of credit curtailed by the banks and ran into cash flow problems.

I'd go with Schoolcomms https://schoolcomms.com/packages/package-comparison/

Use SQLMS to delete the blank DB.
