I'm not an IT expert, but the file may not be lost. I've used this Recover My Files Data Recovery Software is the past to recover files. You just have to hope that the sector on the hard drive where the TT files where has not been overwritten with new data. Get your ICT provider to take out the formatted hard drive ASAP plug it into a laptop with an external serial to usb cable with the evaluation copy of the above installed on it. Let the program run to see what it finds on the disc. If it finds the TT files then they will need to purchase the full version the recover them. There are other apps that will do similar things on the internet.

Re-reading the post it would seem they have obtained employment - hence the need to create a TT

6th Form first > KS4 > KS3. It's worth having a chat with your HODs. Many moons ago my DHT used to provide me with the TT'd curriculum blocks such as Monday Period1 10x (5 Classes 10x1-10x5) and 8Y (4 Classes 8Y1-8Y4) and I'd then TT them against the Dept staff and room it myself and pass this information back by a deadline date. Most Dept's liked the outcome of doing the TT this way even though it took some time to ensure every staff member had a 'balanced' TT.

You'd be better off Googling LA's in London and their SIMS support teams and asking if you can attend one of their courses next term. Your gateway is to be linked with a school they support, whether it's paid work or as a volunteer. I don't think any providers do online courses as SIMS isn't something that anyone can purchase at PC World and install on your own machine.

I think someone else asked these questions recently, maybe worth searching for their post. Not many schools have been through the process. Capita will provide you with template Excel files for the data that you will need to capture out of Progresso and send off for the conversion. You just need to have the reports ready in Progresso to export this data.

If my son's school asked me for my NI number I wouldn't be inclinded to hand it over. It's quite a sensitive piece of information give out.

Don't you need the parents NI number to cross check their childs eligibility on the DfE website? That's not going to be in SIMS so any automation directly from a schools MIS to the DfE is off the cards. LA's can offer an opt out service - where a parent signing up for e.g. housing benefit (but not FSM) will automatically be crossed checked for FSM elgibility and the school informed.

FFT Aspire has individual student GCSE targets (estimates) that use the new 1-9 points system thats has been broken into 6- 6, 6+ etc. These run form your current Y11 to Y7. They are also aligning their methodology more towards the DfE's P8 system.

I don't believe governors need to go through the DBS check either - Their details need to be on the school website along with their term and membership type.

Lot's of LA's pull data frequently from schools (we pull once a day) - Admitting early may cause issues for the admissions team if your LA controls mid-year admissions process as the current number of students in the school wont be accurate. If your a school with empty places looking for new students this may not be a good idea.

Not seen GCSE's split into top middle or bottom of analysis before. Nothing should really should map to grade 9 as according to the DfE only a very small % of students will be able to achieve this grade, which wasn't the case with an old A* Also I'd wait until the confusion over whether a grade 5 (Ebac measure) or 4 (% Eng & Ma measure) counts as the golden 'standard'. Once we have this anchor point to an old grade C then it's easier to compare to the legacy grades.

I looked on the Bromcom website and couldn't find any Bromcom timetabling software package either. Maybe one of the secondary schools that have converted would comment on how they managed the transfer of the curriculum/timetable?

You could add them as member of staff, but that's not quite the same as giving them system access. Within SIMS you can give known people (teachers, TA's etc) on the system access, or you can create an account without that person being known to the system. The only governors with access to SIMS should be the teacher governors.

Maybe create a SIMS 'pre-admission number' that externals could use to plug into. It would be unique and stay with the student.

I'm not sure what you would want to give governors from SIMS or any MIS directly. I'd export, format and print/email any non sensitive reports to them.

It also depends on how you have made the marksheets in terms of contextual groups. User defined or ethnicity/SEN you might want to keep as they can span year groups. If they are linked to NCY/Reg then delete and recreate next year as has been suggested. Some schools still have marksheets dated back to 2004 in their lists.....

Admitting is like putting them 'on roll' and requiring an attendance mark. Ideally this should be done on the first day back in Sept.

Once SIMS has been installed on a workstation you can just copy n paste over the top (or zip and extract) the new SIMS .net folder into the default location C:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS. This is probably the easiest way of upgrading :-)

On the workstation you will have a SIMSLoad.ini in the SIMS.net folder with contents similar to this: SIMSApplicationSetup=1.636.36.0 SIMSAmparkSetup=1.636.24.0 SIMSManualSetup=1.636.33.0 SIMSApplicationSetupLastChecked=11:35 SIMSManualSetupLastChecked=11:36 SIMSAMPARKSetupLastChecked=11:36 SIMSClientUpdateSetupLastChecked=11:36 SIMSApplicationSetupLastInstalled=11:36 SIMSManualSetupLastInstalled=09:51 SIMSAMPARKSetupLastInstalled=09:51 Also on the workstation in the Windows folder you will (or should have to make this work) sims.ini file with this. The important bit is SIMSSetupsDirectory=D:\Shared\SIMS\Setups this has to point to your SIMS server and up to date setups. If I tweak the SIMSApplicationSetup=1.636.36.0 to > "35" and run simsload it kicks off the upgrade. You could in theory push out new .ini files to the workstations and script SIMSload on login. [setup] SIMSDirectory=D:\Shared\SIMS SIMSSetupsDirectory=D:\Shared\SIMS\Setups SIMSDotNetDirectory=D:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS\SIMS .net SIMSSQLAppsDirectory=D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.SIMS2014\MSSQL\Binn Folder=SIMS Applications NovaSatellite=C:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS\SATS

You can run in 'mixed mode' by which you can still use the simsload.exe to ensure the workstations are kept up to date. This is more reliable than S3 for upgrades.

Would you say that Bromcoms timetabling software is better or worse than SIMS?

Renaming the server with the db attached can break quite a few things in the background. You can try changing your connect.ini to an ip address rather than the server name. That might fix it?. You could also do a backup of SIMS, detach the Db and then restore again to see if that fixes the issue.
