Hi all, I have been asked to do a Health and Safety review and to ensure all our staff know how to work with PCs at their desks safely. I.E. (Making sure people know how to sit properly at their desks, reducing RSI etc.) We have posters in every room with a PC and I send out the Health and Safety VDU information pack. What else should I be doing? I usually send out an email like the one below with the attached VDU - HSE Pack and once they have gone through it to email confirmation and to take the quiz , emailing me the results. As part of ICT Health and Safety review can I ask that all staff visit the website below. This will explain the safe use of ICT and can I ask that staff take part in the quiz that is available by clicking the link at the top of the ‘Course Menu’ page. Health & Safety For Display Users Once you have completed the quiz could you email me (or print out) your certificate. Also attached is a ‘Working with VDU’s’ health and safety guide which will explain the safe us of VDU’s for users. Please could you reply to this email to notify me that this has been read and understood. I have been asked to look into other websites, as SLT are not happy with the "learninglink" website, as it is dated and a couple of people have a found a couple of mistakes on it. Does anyone know of a test that people can do for the safe use of ICT? Many thanks

Hi all, I want a fresh start to asset management at my school and after much research of open source software, I have decided to go with GLPI and OCS. But I have found out that OCS is limited with regards to SNMP so would like to use Fusion Inventory plugin as well. Has anyone managed to use all three together and can you give me any advice or point me to a guide? I have googled but not finding much on using all three together? Any help would be appreciated. This is my own opinion, but is shared by many members of staff at my school, but I find it not very user friendly, clunky and a bit unreliable, we have been using it since 2010 and due to the issues, staff and parents have been using it less and less.

Hi all, I have been tasked with the job of seeing if there is a decent alternative to SIMS Learning Gateway? Basically we want staff to be able to access Marksheets, student data etc. Also we want parents to be able to see their childs attendance, behavior information. We have just reached the end of our 3 year contract with SIMS and I am not a fan so would prefer not to sign up for another 3 years. Any opinions would be appreciated. Cheers

Hi all, what is the best way to do the above for staff laptops so that they can use them at home and at school? Also so that their work will auto sync when it reconnects to the network? I am initially setting this up for the BM, as she wants to be able to work from home. We can't afford any remote access. Thanks in advance

After some research last night (I know, I need to get out more) the RAID controller in the server is a PERC 5i which has a 2TB limit. At least I solved it lol. Cheers for the advice from everyone.

Just reinstalling 2012 after using DISKPART to convert disk to GPT. Fingers crossed.

Hi all, Right we have been given a server with 3TB of hard drive space setup in RAID 10. I have installed Server 2012R2, but when I go to Disk Management to create the partitions I have 2 unallocated spaces 1898GB and 745GB. I can use the 1898GB to create partitions, but not the 745GB (all options are greyed out). After creating all the partitions I still have around 400GB left out of the 1898GB but I do not want to waste 745GB of hard drive space. Any ideas what I can do to sort this? I am hoping I wont have to mess with the RAID Array. Cheers Sean

Its ok I sorted it, the invigilator cant be using wireless. The PCs wont discover it if it is.

Hi all, Went to do a Exam today and noticed that auto discovery of the invigilator dashboard is no longer working? It worked fine about 5 weeks ago. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers Sean

As this is a very common thing of staff or students "accidentally" deleting work, I was wondering if there is a way to setup a network recycle bin, rather that having to restore from a backup as this can take time? Cheers

Hi all, We have a file server that was also a DC. Due to issues we had experienced we took away the roles from it and disabled DHCP and DNS, but it is still a DC. I want to demote it from a DC just to a member server to tidy things up, but just wondering and as a precaution, this will not effect any of the file shares will it? The server is the student and staff file server as well as, shared file server. Cheers

I have had a Raspberry Pi for a while, but have never used it. So I was wondering if there is a way to utilise it as a media player for the kids to use in the car. I know that I can use, XMBC on a raspberry Pi, but what I am not sure of is the powering of it, ensuring that it shuts down properly and using a couple of screens for the kids to have on the seat head rests. Any advice would be appreciated. Sean

I will probably get shouted down for this but it is not really about roaming or mandatory anymore with folder redirection. As you already having roaming in place, follow this link to setup up folder redirection, this will shave a great deal of time off the logon. How to configure Roaming Profiles and Folder Redirection
