  1. Hi, thanks ever so much for your post. I am just about to add it now. Will let you know the outcome. Thanks again.
  2. Hi all, I can't believe this issue is still ongoing, all of a sudden, I have client systems showing the message asking for Driver Update Needed etc. We have server 2016 Standard. In my notes, I have written that if I remove KB5005573, that will prevent this issue occurring. I made sure I removed this update some time ago. I have checked installed updates on the server and this update is not on it. These are the latest updates installed to the server: And these are the latest updates installed on the affected Windows 10 system: This is the second Windows 10 system which has started doing this again in a week so something is going on. The systems do not use WSUS as it is just a small admin network. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
  3. Hi there, Does anyone else have a similar problem? We have Kodo 1.6.12.0 deployed via MSI to our Windows 10 stations. They are currently running 21H2. I have ensured that the drivers are fully up to date on each system, particularly the graphics driver. When any user clicks on the Kodu Game Lab icon, nothing happens. Even an Administrator. I have viewed event log at the time it is opened, and this is what I am seeing... We are deploying the software via KoduSetup_1.6.12.0.msi in it's own GPO for the OU containing the computers we need it in. Any help would be greatly appreciated
  4. Thank you, that makes sense. The only issue I am having is I am struggling to find an MSI for Google Drive for Desktop. How did you manage to get it? All of the Google Support pages give you access only to an exe version.
  5. Thanks, that makes sense and sounds perfect. Did you have to remove a drive letter from Drives>Specify which drives are hidden/cannot be used by users in the respective staff RMMC Policies so that the Google Drive Desktop could successfully mount a drive?
  6. Hi Daivd, Thanks for this, that is music to my ears! Great news. If you had a teacher sign into Google Drive File Stream on their main class computer, if they then used a random computer in the staff workroom as an example, would Google Drive File Stream automatically be logged into the account for them provided the computer had the MSI installed? I am trying to make it as easy as possible for staff and can see they will not want to be putting in usernames and passwords all the time. Yes, RM Unify, that was the name, thanks for reminding me.
  7. Thank you, I had considered this but when I spoke to RM I had to keep chasing their sales team for answers, nobody got back to me so just gave up. We would need to deploy the Google Drive for Desktop app via RMMC to get it to work. I also asked about OneDrive but got similar nonsense and excuses for why RM couldn't accommodate for it. Apparently they have some kind of online platform to use OneDrive Mapper and that would not work with our MIS; Shcolarpack. Maybe eventually, we could move away from RM, but for now, would like to keep it as when it works, it seems to work.
  8. Hi there, I am trying to get staff to move over to Google and make use of the Google Drive. Does anyone know if there is a way to use CleverTouch software on Google and with Chromebooks? In particular, staff use Lynx. I can see on the ClerverTouch website, something called Lynx Whiteboard and it says you can get this on Google Play. Does anyone know if this is what you are meant to use in a Google environment? We have Windows 10 stations for staff which run on CC4, but I really want to get Google Drive in use so their files would be on GDrive and would be accessed via Chrome, which would mean currently, the Lynx files would not be recognised. Wondering if anyone else has had this obstacle and found a way forward?
  9. Thanks guys, no was not aware, I did happen to see a few articles online between seeing these replies so I 'removed' the update. But still getting issues... Has anyone else had issues with these specific updates?
  10. Thank you, I will look into this - makes sense, particularly if it is more secure.
  11. Thanks everyone. I had never even heard of GAM, I am a Google newbie! I have followed the links and downloaded the GAM Windows msi to my system. I have followed through the instructions, but I am getting stuck... I enter in my admin Workspace Admin username, I copy and paste the link into my browser, sign in to my Google account and then paste back the verification code, but then I get the following error saying The terms of service 'appsadmin' for service(s) 'admin.googleapis.com, admin.googleapis.com' must be accepted. I copy and paste the link to go to the Developers Console to accept the ToS but I get this screen: Any ideas on what the issue might be? I have tried running it a couple of times, but I am getting the same result each time.
  12. Hi there, For some reason, every since the Printer Nightmare towards the end of last year, this particular server is refusing to install some updates. You will see from the below, between October 21 and January, no updates were installed. I have removed the server from the WSUS GPO so it now manually can download updates, it has managed to install a few starting on 10th Jan 2022 and then some more on 12th but continues not to be able to install: KB5006714 KB5008263 KB5009624 Does anyone know why this would be? Here are some further details and error code: Have tried rebooting server several times and it has made zero difference.
  13. Hi, Does anyone know how I can add a teacher to a classroom ion Google Classrooms? I am assuming the classroom she needs adding to has all staff off with Covid so there is nobody who can do this for her. When she tries to 'join class' it is asking for a class code which she doesn't have. I can find no way in the console area to add her. Does anyone have any ideas?
  14. Thanks for your useful post. I had not realised, but I must have already restricted them to no guest accounts as the chromebooks will only allow you to put the part before the @ on our domain name so you have to be a user of our domain to access them. Thanks for the info on the blocking of sites. That is a good idea. I have already added to our loan agreement about parents ensuring they supervise usage at home due to us not having internet filtering once the devices leave the school. Thanks again for your help on this.
  15. David, Thanks. Thankfully, I have already done most of what is on your list. I don't think the office have any tote bags left but I was going to chase this up to day with SMT. Good suggestion re 20% of total price being assigned in budget to cover against accidents. I totally agree, accidents do happen, however, last year at around this time when there was a lockdown, I was off sick due to an operation. The head ordered a large number of Amazon Fire Tablets for the pupils to use from home. I think it was around 60 and only ever got 25 or so back, most missing charging leads etc. No agreements were drawn up or signed as that is something I take care of, so many parents just kept them. I was horrified to hear that so many had gone missing in my absence. It took a lot of work and convincing to get these 180 Chromebooks and I just really don't want large numbers to come back trashed or go missing. The site filtering is something I have looked into, but that won't be implemented in time judging by our current staffing level situation however I built that into the agreement the parents sign which says they must supervise the child the device is assigned to - not another child in the household, as internet filtering will not happen outside of the school. With regards limiting the devices to only allow logins from our Google domain, do you know specifically where that is under Devices>Chrome? I think that would be well worth setting up. I have it set up so that at the moment, it automatically puts in the part after the @ for the username to save the children having to type our long school domain name in which forms part of their username.
  16. Yes, I do. We have 180 of them and all 180 have licences.
  17. Hi there, It looks like we may need to loan out quite a few of our Chromebooks to pupils (5 to 6 years old) as thanks to Covid, although the school is open, we are looking at the prospect of closing entire classes due to staff shortages. We have never loaned out Chromebooks, but if the government DfE Windows based ones ones are anything to go by, a neighbouring school had I am quite concerned...one dropped in a fish tank, several with no power adapters returned, smashed screens, totally dead ones which just won't turn on, one with the asset label removed and serial number sticker picked off, several clearly set up for the parents to use for work as well as many set up for older siblings to use who do not even go to the school. I know these things go on but I am staggered at how these devices are treated outside of school. We currently have one Chromebook per child for our children to use in class and are looking at having to dish these out so they can get on with their work from home. Does anyone know if there are any ways for me to be able to check that the devices are being used for what they should be? I can see from Google Workspace Admin I can locate a device by its serial number and I can see who last logged in. Is there any further info I can find? I am just really worried that the devices are not going to be used for their purpose and will come back (if I am even that lucky) with damage, missing cables etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  18. Hi there, I wondered if anyone might be able to help. Server 2016, Windows 10 client stations. I am seeing the following in a GPResult on a client computer. I have not checked others yet, so not sure if this is just one computer or many. It states that my Folder Redirection GPO is failing and to check Event Log. I have done so and can see that the following redirections are throwing errors: My Documents Pictures Videos Music Links Favourites Downloads RoamingAppData I have noted down all of the errors and can see that the ones marked above in blue are showing the following error (My Pics just used as an example, they don’t all say “My Pictures” in the path): Failed to apply policy and redirect folder “Pictures” to “\\servername\homefolder$\userinquestion\MyDocuments\My Pictures”. Redirection options=0x9231. The following error occurred: “Failed to redirect the folder because the destination folder \\servername\homefolder$\userinquestion\MyDocuments\MyPictures\ is offline.”. Error details: “The network path was not found.”. The above marked in red are showing the following error (again Downloads just used as an example, not all of the errors show “Downloads” in the path): Failed to apply the policy and redirect the folder “Downloads” to \\servername\homefolder$\userinquestion\Downloads”. Redirection options=0x1211. The following error occurred: “Failed to redirect the folder because the destination folder \\servername\homefolder$\userinquestion\Downloads is offline.”. Error details: “The network path was not found.”. I have reviewed the GPO (attached in this OP) and can see that Music, Pictures and Videos all follow the documents folder. If I log in as the user, I am able to browse to \\servername\homefolder$\userinquestion\My Documents. Within this folder, there is a Music, Pictures and Videos folder. I have checked the I have verified that within the GPO all individual folder Redirection choices other than ones which follow Documents, have both “Grant the user exclusive rights to Documents” and “Also apply redetection policy to Windows 2000, Windows 2000 Server, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 Operating systems” are ticked. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be going wrong?
  19. Thank you for all of your posts. Sorry for the slow reply. I caught covid and was off for some time. We have given up and installed the printers manually on every single machine. I have advised the school to move away from Microsoft and go with Google Workspace for Education. Absolutely sick and tired of the constant issues with Microsoft. These smaller primaries cannot afford to keep paying for extra time because the Microsoft products they have purchased do not work, so they will be moving to something more reliable from April. Thanks for your help.
  20. Thanks for the warning, I will certainly take care when plugging it in! Just to clarify, our supplier has got back to me to say that the trolley does not come with charge leads. It is assumed you use the ones which come with the Chromebooks. This is not helpful as they have 3pin plugs on the end not USB A or USB C! I have had to order 31 USB C to C 0.5m cables!
  21. Further to my last post and after spending three hours diagnosing this out of my own weekend, for free (thank you Microsoft).... I am finding that one one example computer... Windows 10 Pro 1909 Domain Connected. It has the policy for the printers. As the usual teacher for this computer, your domain account gets the printers as expected, however some users report that they can't print. The print queue seems blocked with jobs which have not gone through. If you delete these as the user in question, it works no problem. As a teacher user who doesn't usually use the computer. You get no printers. As a brand new test user, I have just made up, you get no printers. This is making absolutely no sense. I CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW UTTERLY FRUSTRATING THIS IS. WHY IS THERE NO WAY TO FIX THIS REDICILOUS PROBLEM? I HAVE SPENT HOURS ON THIS AND GETTING ABSOLOUTELY NOWHERE.
  22. Thanks everyone. There are a couple of things you may be able to help me with...... Just to clarify, the new WSUS server has bags of space so having all of the updates is not an issue. The older server, did not have all of the updates, just the core ones, so I had already tried to free up as much room as I could. 1.You mention about the print server drivers having 'render on clent' and 'print directly' set. How is this done? Do I need to ask RISO to do this? 2.You mention that you do not have RpcAuthnLevelPrivacyEnabled=dword:0 set on server or clients. I have not heard of this before? Should I try it? The only reg I have added to our printer policy is this: Lastly, can I just check that for Point and Print Restrictions within the GPO, have you set them under Computer Configuration or User Coniguration? And also have 'Users can only point and print to machines in their forest' disabled? I notice I have set mine under Computer Config, but under User Config, I have the 'Printer Connections' and respective paths, these are also listed under Computer Config, so duplicated. Does this seem ok? @TwistedHelixis, thanks, I will go back through my policies, but I have always kept anything printer related in one policy called PrintersAllLocations as we have quite a basic printer setup here. Have a good weekend guys, don't have printer nightmares.
  23. Thank you both. And YES!! I was under the exact same impression as you, however it came with no USB C leads. I contacted supplier, he said no worries, I will get something arranged, I got a replacement config kit in the post which just has the plastic grommets which hold the cables in place but not the actual cables so it seems not or maybe there is an option for pre-cabled and not cabled and for some reason, I have got the latter choice?! Either way, it is a nice unit, very compact and well built. It has USB A as you rightly mentioned but also USB C on each of the charging blocks. So each block of which there are 8 has 5 USB A and 5 USB C plugs for charging. And yes, that is my picture.
  24. Hi there, I have purchased my first 32 bay Zioxi (CHRGTUC -CB-32-C) trolley for our Chromebooks. Seems a really nice trolley but I am struggling to find affordable but good quality USB C cables. Our trolley has 8 power boxes inside with 5 USB A or USB C connectors per box. I am assuming the power boxes will take either a USB A or USB C connector and not both or we would have 40 connections. We can either go for 32 x USB A to USB C (for Chromebook end) Or 32 x USB C to USB C connectors. I have had a measure up and I think that 0.5m would be the perfect length. Not too fussed if the cables are more money but will actually last. Can anyone recommend the best place to get 50cm USB A to USBC or USB C to USB C cables? Thank you in advance
  25. I am literally at my whits' end with this problem. The time I have spent with a colleague trying to get printers working is unbelievable. The school can no longer afford to keep paying for us to spend time on something which is simply not working. The education of children is now severely being affected by this and I am disgusted that so many organisations have been left in this situation. Here is everything we have done so far along with the servers we have. Server 1: 2016 1607 FRDC Server, DNS and DHCP Server, also was original Print Server Server 2: 2016 1607 Server Domain connected but not a DC for Backup , Paxton Access and WSUS Server 3: Third 2019 1809 server domain connected but not a DC for new backup and new WSUS. Now the new print server with updated printer drivers. Windows 10 client computers running a mixture of Windows 10 versions both Edu and Pro. 2 x RISO the ComColor 7150 Copiers One Printer GPO on FRCD server for the above two printers which goes out to all stations on the network. No location based printer options, just a really simple setup. Steps done so far to try and resolve this: 1. Added the RestrictDriverInstallationToAdministrators REG DWORD entry to our Printer GPO. 2. Added to our Printer GPO, Point and Print Restrictions Enabled, entered in the FQDNs for our three servers. Enabled “Users can only point and print to machines in their forest” and set the two following security prompts to “Do not Show”: “When installing drivers for a new connection” + “When updating drivers for an existing connection” 3. Tried to remove the KB5005573 update from the FRDC. It would not uninstall. 4. Tried clearing the repository on the server, still it would not uninstall or clear. 5. Tried to not approve it on WSUS, couldn’t as WSUS server was totally full. 6. Tried using the PS Print Nightmare script someone helpfully posted on here to remove the update from the server. Wouldn’t uninstall again. 7. Re-shuffled WSUS GPO so that it didn’t apply to the FRDC. 8. Attempted again to manually remove the update, still not able to remove it. 9. Put WSUS GPO back to where it was before. 10. Gave up and focused on getting WSUS installed on our new 2019 server. 11. Installed WSUS on new 2019 server, however WSUS would not work showing errors when opening. 12. Followed all online guides to allocate more memory to WSUS etc so it would work, still it wouldn’t work. 13. Checked WSUS was uninstalled from secondary server, it was however in IIS it was still running. Stopped this service in IIS. 14. WSUS now worked on third 2019 server, however constantly kept crashing and showing same error message. 15. Again checked secondary server, WSUS not running, still crashing on 3rd. 16. After lots of crashing and trying, managed to find all of the following in WSUS and decline for install: KB5005568 (Windows Server 2019) KB5005573 (Windows Server 2016) KB5005613 (Windows Server 2012 R2) KB5005627 (Windows Server 2012 R2) KB5005623 (Windows Server 2012) KB5005607 (Windows Server 2012) KB5005606 (Windows Server 2008) KB5005618 (Windows Server 2008) KB5005565 (Windows 10 2004, 20H2, and 21H1) KB5005566 (Windows 10 1909) KB5005615 (Windows 7 Windows Server 2008 R2) KB5005568 (Windows Server 2019) KB5005573 (Windows Server 2016) KB5005613 (Windows Server 2012 R2) KB5005627 (Windows Server 2012 R2) 17. Checked on FRDC server, updates mentioned above for 2016 now missing and not installed, good result. 18. Printers STILL not printing. 19. Re-verified that all settings were in place in printer GPO, things like “users can only point and print to machines in the forest”, making sure the specific printers listed that users can print to were correct and resolvable. Everything ok. 20. Still printers not printing. 21. Gave up YET AGAIN and set up the 2019 server as a print server. 22. Contacted RISO who supply the printers to ensure we have latest drivers. 23. RISO send me a link for their new ones. I download the 2019 server drivers and install as per their instructions for the ComColor 7150. All printers added, tested, and working perfectly. 24. I changed the Printer GPO on the FRDC to reflect the new printers on the 3rd server. I put in the new printer paths in Printer Connections, I ensure all paths are resolvable and everything is correct. I update the policy so everything is sent through to client computers. 25. I am told AGAIN, people are unable to print. 26. Again, I check the printer GPO, everything is correct and as it should be. 27. I run a GPResult on a client computer, I can see that the Printer Policy is being applied. Makes no sense at all, printers are not showing yet policy is being applied. 28. I test on multiple computers, still no printers but policy is being applied apparently. 29. I log in as a teacher, log out, delete profile, re log in, all printers now show. 30. I assume that this must be a profile issue then. 31. Log in as same teacher on another computer, printers do not show. So can’t be the profile. 32. I notice that some computers have Windows 10 Pro and others 10 Edu. I convert one from Edu to Pro, test, still not working. 33. I try with different teacher accounts and the same is happening so it is not related to a specific user. 34. I convert another from Pro to Edu, still not working. 35. I notice some have feature updates pending, I install these, still not working. 36. I test with another staff account, still not working. 37. A colleague installs the printer directly to a client workstation and tests by logging in as a member of staff. It works well as it is going direct to the printer and not through the server. This works for a few days, and then stops working. We really thought this was profile related, but resetting profiles, although seeming to solve the problem, was not the fix we had hoped for. Can anyone please help? The amount of time spent on this is ridiculous. I am only on site 2.5 hrs a fortnight, so the time this has taken in terms of weeks is immense as there are other jobs to be done at the same time. I cannot believe how difficult this has been to resolve and STILL staff are not able to print, and we have a mountain of other issues which have been left due to this.
