Just installed HAP version 8.7 today got to say great all round software it would be perfect if it wasn't for this small problem with Android devices downloading files. @nickbro do you have any ideas if you will have time to get this working or anything I can try to get it working now? No iSCSI works over the network on existing network adapters. You just use the iSCSI initiator which is built into Windows. Just make sure for maximum speed between the server and the NAS which is going to include switches that you set up jumbo frames for those ports. There is a lot of information in the manuals though about this.

Does anyone have an iso or CD available for Dyscalculia Screener by GL assessment? The reason I ask is someone has asked me to install it they have the key and license agreement even the CD case but no CD inside. The company would like £25 for a replacement CD. If you get driver issues with using the HP universal driver which you may do, the way we do it here is setup the printing defaults on the server for B+W and then do a Impero title check that looks for "Printing Preferences..." I think just for students so if they are sneaky and go looking for the colour settings it kills the window then informs the teacher :-)

We have a Qnap TS-1079 Pro onsite here filled with cheap 2tb Sata 3 HD's. it's never missed a beat. We had it connected by iScsi to DPM server and it worked well but we moved to veeam now and it's even faster. Got duel gig nics as well for double the speed and failover, nice bit of kit.

Well I would say the same but it states "for the avoidance of doubt, in cases where terminations have been requested in which costs apply, the process will not commence until a purchase order has been recieved to cover the costs". I think we will have to ask for a breakdown but I am still unsure if you are out of contract if they can even charge fee's but I am not sure either way.

We will be out of contract as far as I know we have waited a year to be out of contract. The contract ends in April and we are giving 6 months notice. I have found a copy of the SWGFL user agreement online and it states: termination or expiry of this Agreement the Service User shall: 11.6.1 pay to SWGfL any Termination Fees due under or in relation to this Agreement; 11.6.2 pay to SWGfL all arrears of any Charges due to SWGfL under this Agreement up to the date of termination; and 11.6.3 return to SWGfL any of the Confidential Information and provide a written certification that such Confidential Information has not been retained save to the extent this is required in relation to the Services. So I don't know what we can do. I agree some of the costs seem excessive, should I ask for a detailed breakdown of the costs?

Thanks Achandler, we are an academy now so I doubt the local council will get involved but 1k does seem excessive. I am not too sure what to do, pay it, argue it, or do something else?

We are thinking about moving away from SWGFL and have just had the termination fees come through to us. They want around £1000 per site to move away from them. The costs are broken down as the following: Unrecovered Costs core £300 software £100 Breakage costs Telecoms £0 Admin £150 Engineering £350 Lost Profits £100 To me this seems pricey but SWGFL was put in before my time and I have no idea what was signed contract wise and if we really have to pay this to leave? Does anyone have experience with this? Cheers

To be fair thats one of the last physical servers we have left to virtualise and yes maybe heavy SQL servers wouldn't be a good idea to replicate. All I can say is give it some testing we will be either half term or at Easter. Hyper-V manager provides some very good stats on network activity, file size etc for the replica so if you find its hogging resources you could always turn it off on that server.

Yes, I think a lot of people have realised they could say a lot of money with this moving away from VMware for this feature alone. Look at this blog Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V Replica … In Detail he does lots of blogs on Hyper-v.

Yes I can confirm we have this setup and it works nicely. It will sync every 5 mins all the changes (I don't think you can change this) so as long as there are not huge files changes I.E a media server it should only be small file transfers between the two servers. If you need to fail over you just logon to the replicate server and choose fail over and it will then startup as normal. You can then fail back when the other server is backup and it will copy all the files back to original server so there is no need for big down time. For a built in free feature it is very good.

We too were asked to get this working and also use Smoothwall with NTLM. Well what can I say, after lots of testing and playing around with settings, with no real help from support it is working. Everytime a student logs in they have to set no less than 10 manual options including putting proxy information in for it to work. This is after installing the activex component as well. To sum up not the best software in my opinion.

We have impero but still use a simple task scheduler to shut them down as its easier to apply different settings to different areas via GPO. In the startup script it goes something like this at /delete /yes at 15:45 /interactive /every:M,T,W,Th,F \\dc\netlogon\shutdown.exe -i -l 1 with shutdown.exe being beyondexec BeyondExec - Spawn Processes or Shutdown Remote Windows NT/2000/XP WorkStations which works with XP through to 7 and allows options like not shutting down if logged on etc.

Looks good do you remember how much it cost your school? It mentions $3 Per user per month so I'm hoping they have education pricing otherwise that's going to get expensive for us.

We have 55 AP's now and have been running them since July 2012 with the software installed on Server 2008 R2. Our Database is 2.9GB. Now you mention it I might keep an eye on it and see if it increases over time.

Had a very similar sounding problem to yours and it turned out to be a font verdana to be exact had gone corrupt on the machine (a) that could not view another machine through impero. Deleted the font restarted and all was good. Tech support found this out by a log file in program files inside impero. Strange issue I thought but was happy it was resolved without too much trouble.

+1 for AirServer looks like you may have bought 25 Apple TV's, HDMI to VGA converters and or new projectors for no real benefit. We have been trailing AirServer now with the 40 or so iPads we have and so far it has proved to work well. We paid about £38 for 15 licenses so its a lot cheaper than the Apple alternative and it works with all existing kit just one piece of software to install on the PC. One other plus (I don't know if the Apple TV does this) is that you can connect multiple iPads or iPhones to the AirServer for collaborative work. It is also password protected like the Apple TV to stop just anyone connecting.

We did buy the Unifi Pro point in the summer when just came out to EU market. We paid around the £170 mark each, they may have come down a bit now but really 60 points for 7K who is your supplier?

I installed 60 Unifi Pro points over the summer at a total cost of around £10k. This was replacing a failing 3COM managed system that was about 5 years old and was falling over regularly and not coping with the increase of iPads and general WIFI connectivity. Although it was a big investment we have around 2300 students and 200 staff all of whom are able to BYOD. We also have 300 college laptops/tablets in constant use so it is heavily used. Just looking on the stats of the Unifi and it says we have on average 600 users connected at any one time in the day and around 30GB of data transferred per day. So far it’s been flawless but its early days I guess. We were quoted around £50k -60k from Aerohive plus ongoing yearly maintenance on top which wasn’t cheap for the same kind of setup so I think so far it looks like we made the right decision but I guess time will tell.
