We only send stuff on if requested by the College after students have enrolled with them. We have had colleges in the past ask for info about students "on spec" assuming that they would end up with them but that obviously raises Data Protection issues. On results day its unlikely students will be formally enrolled on College courses when they get their results - they often go straight there from us on results day, so its wouldn't be appropriate to ask the students either as they may equate being offered a place with actually being on the College roll.

It looks like this might be an issue with the sessions and block shape ? Is it that you have all double periods in the block shape from the screenshot but you are trying to schedule singles ?

Looking at that cycle, is the Co lesson after school compulsory ? If it is you have a basic 5 period day, with period 1 on a Mon as a coaching lesson rather than a "normal" lesson. If that is the case, then the basic cycle is not a problem. Its just a standard 5 period day. If you want to have different numbers of lessons on different days of the cycle, that's slightly harder, but do-able - you add the extra period to each day but flag it as Set Exclusive, so no classes are scheduled in it.

Seeing the cycle would help - from that screenshot it looks like the periods have been named but it isn't actually a two-week timetable: it it was the period names would be Mon1,Mon2 etc. It looks like you have a one week timetable with double the number of periods per lesson. Are you intending to use the "Create week two" process to generate the second week ?

Can't see any reason not to use your existing box. We have a similar situation in that all our VM's are on a Dell VRTX and the the chassis is a single point of failure, although it has two power supplies. I fitted a Dell R230 server, in another cabinet and set this up as a DC/DHCP and it works fine. We use proper DHCP failover/load balancing though, not just split ranges, and I think that needs a newer server version that 2012 ? So if you wanted to do that you might need to upgrade.

We have a warning on our auto-attendant about this which gives the reasons as security and safeguarding purposes, but we do not routinely record calls - its ad-hoc and requires the recipient to press a button on the phone. This facility is only available to a limited number of staff and they have been briefed that they must tell the other party if they switch the feature on. The recordings are only kept on the system for 5 days unless they are extracted for a specific purpose, and as synaesthesia said, these would then be attached to the student data file. This reduces the GDPR overhead. I think if you routinely recorded calls there would be more of an overhead to keep everything compliant.

If you mean it saved in the 2018 folder, no it makes no difference. The only thing that matters when you do the transfer are the start and end dates you supply for when the timetable should apply.

Just find a JCQ gradeset that has the grade values that match your qualification - so for our NCFE Level 2 Tech awards, I used JC23 as this has the correct grades in it. You then edit the KS4 points to the correct values.

Yeah, like most of SIMS, it works (for a given value of "works"), but not necessarily in the way you would want it to.

You can turn this on from Tools>Emergency Alert - just a tick box. You also need to specify recipients - we have all our Senior Staff and non-teaching HOY's in the list. Turning the functionality on makes a small lifebuoy icon appear on the extreme right of the SIMS toolbar. If a member of staff clicks on this, an alert giving their name and location (taken from the timetable) goes to all the recipients specified in the list. Recipients need to be running SIMS of course. We use it here for staff to summon help if a pupil needs removing from a lesson and taken to isolation.

You can redownload it from here You will need to redownload and re-install the security keys relevant to the boards you use. You usually need to request these from the secure section of the exam board web site, which your EO will have access to, and importing them is straightforward. Make sure you look on the existing computer and check the config of the current install, which will show you which folders are being used as the inbox, outbox etc. Make a note of these so you can re-create them on the new box. You might also want to check that there are no special firewal, filtering or network contfigs in place that might be machine dependent - our EO computer has a fixed IP for example.

We have had 5 Riso printers since January when we refreshed our follow-me printing setup. They are ComColour FW5230 machines. We looked at a lot of alternatives, but have found these very good - they are fast and cheap and the staff find them easy enough to use. Win10 and Server 2019 running Papercut 18.3 here and no issues. As others have said, the quality is not the best: if you need high quality stuff with deep colours, you couldn't really use these, but for day to day stuff thats being used in class they are fine.

We have used Zen since 2001 for our school internet connection, (initially it was on ISDN !) and I rate them very highly. They are our "local" ISP which helps, but we rarely have to call them and when you do the response is excellent and its someone in Rochdale who answers the phone and who actually knows what they are talking about. I also use them as a home broadband and telephony provider now and have found them excellent to deal with. They are very good at pushing Openreach and getting them to deal with stuff. They won't be the cheapest I suspect but you get a good product and very good service.

For the Dual Registration, is this possibly due to the pupil having been enrolled with their originating school as the "primary" and your school as the "secondary" site, whereas the other pupil has been enrolled the other way round ?

I recently set up two new 2019 DC's and it defaulted to the loopback being the 2nd address. Figured if MS think thats a sensible default, thats what I would go with.

It depends what the VM's are doing - I have the application aware processing turned off but none of mine are running anything complex. If you had a crucial SQL database on it for example, that was running all the time you would probably want it to be application aware. I think the indexing is very much optional. Its supposed to speed up file level recovery, but even the VEEAM manual says its not really needed and it slows down backup times.

I've had the same issue with linux backups, and yes, its at least partly to do with credentials. It needs to be able to log-on to the guest to do anything on it. You need to add appropriate credentials in the credential store and then assign them to that particular VM.

I think the preferred way to do this would be within the Cover module in SIMS rather than the timetable itself. You can use the Cover Rota functionality (Tools>Cover>Manage Rotas) to assign staff to be on the rota for specific lessons - they will then be prioritised for cover for those lessons.

@k-strider having done some more reading around this, your post confirms what I have been nudging towards - remove it and start again if we need the infrastructure for something internal in the future. I am going to revoke the certs, see what happens and then remove the role, take it from there. From what I read, it should never have been installed on a DC in the first place.

Need the advice of the collective here as Google is not giving me a clear answer. I am in the process of replacing our 2012r2 DC's with 2019 VM's. Have got most everything sorted, migrated roles, DNS, DHCP and the myriad of other things its easy to forget about, and all is OK. Three new DC's all up and running and two old ones demoted and removed. I have one final 2012r2 DC I now want to demote and remove. It has AD Certificate services installed on it and is a CA. I can't demote the box as long as AD CS is installed. I have researched moving AD CS to another box and although it can be done its tedious and difficult if the new box has a different name. So my question is, can I just uninstall AD CS on this box and go ahead and demote it, and either: 1. Not bother with AD CS at all ? 2. Start again on a new server (likely not a DC if possible) without doing the tedious migration ? I know that CS is not required for AD to operate, but looking in the issued certificated list, the only ones that have been issued and are current are for the DC's and are for Domain Controller Authentication, Directory Email Replication, and Kerberos Authentication. We do use Kerberos so don't want to break anything, but also want to take the path of least resistance.

The missing password error for options is usually because it can't see S:\SIMS and that's usually because its not set correctly in the sims.ini file. If its working on some workstations but not others check if there is a sims.ini in the relevant users AppData folder and it there is delete it.

It doesn't matter which DC you do it on, it will replicate to both. You will only be able to get as high as 2008 functional level though as long as you have a 2008 DC.
