Right click on the column header above the pupil name column and select add additional columns. You can add the registration group or the teaching group column this way. If you then click the column header it will sort by that column.

You can only set a date range when you create a column, not afterwards, so you will need to create a new column for data review and then specify the date range of the result as you work through the dialogue boxes. You could also delete the historical results using Tools>Performance>Assessment>System Utilities, if they are for specific pupils and result sets, but use this with care, its easy to delete the wrong things ! If you want to check if all results have been entered for a particular result set/group/marksheet, you can do this from Reports>Missing Results Report.

Have been very impressed by the Toshiba e2020 MFD machines that were provided as part of our BSF build. They were bought in 2011, are still going, and have been out on corridors and suffered the abuse of teachers all that time with very few issues. I think we have had less than 25 engineer visits (to 7 devices) in all that time. We are looking to replace them now as they are EOL and parts are going to start getting difficult to source, but Toshiba are at the top of the list in contention for the replacements. This is stark contrast to the Ricoh machines in our Repro department, which have never really functioned as advertised and are constantly breaking down. The Ricoh engineer has his own mug he is here so often. Also, Papercut, a really good, well thought out piece of software which has required zero tweaking or fiddling since we installed it in 2013.

I ditched Sophos for Endpoint Protection via SCCM two years ago. The cost saving is massive if you have a EVS agreement ( you do have to pay to manage servers with SCCM) and as others have commented SCEP/Defender is perfectly OK in conjunction with other standard precautions. It was a motivation for getting SCCM working, which I had been wanting to do for some time, and although the learning curve was quite steep the investment in time has been worth it. We now use SCCM for security, OS deployment, updates and now software deployment, so although there is a significant investment in time you save on the bottom line and develop a lot of useful skills and knowledge setting it up.

If the button is linked to one account - ie the messages all go to the same person, you can get a list of who sent them from the Tools>Manage Messages menu. If you have several staff set up to receive them, this won't work so well as no one member of staff will get all the alerts, unless they are logged on to SIMS all the time. It doesn't seem to be exposed anywhere in the reporting dictionary though.

All our classrooms have a desktop PC, visualiser, IWB with built in speaker/amp, and projector. They also have an Apple TV connected to the projector, as all our staff have iPads. This is from a new build 7 years ago. We introduced desktop PC's in every classroom many years before that though when we introduced electronic registration and looked seriously at laptops with docking stations etc which I know some schools use. Over the years, desktop machines have been far better I think, in terms of longevity and upgrade-ability. If I was doing the new build now would have touchscreens instead of IWB's but wouldn't really change much else.

My first thought would be to add the trolley as a room. Then you can assign classes/teachers to it just as you would any other room. Its possible to have more than one room assigned to a class, so you could assign the trolley "room" to a class/teacher combination if the trolley was in that location for a particular lesson.

I use Flow Energy for Gas and the Coop for Electricity and both have been very good and not raised prices in line with the big players recently. I used to be with two of the big firms which was a world of pain, and when I decided to change got the tariff tables from various suppliers web sites and did the calculations on what I might save myself - its easy enough to do now that suppliers have to provide you with an annual summary of usage. I found that made things clearer than using a comparison site - and I think there have been issues with how supplier netural some of those sites are. I didn't just go on price though - I didn't look at some of the really small suppliers as I was concerned about how stable they might be, especially if their prices are much lower.

Yes it does. The aspects for results are named according to the board, subject entry code and result set type. So for example, our GCSE Geography result has an aspect name of AQA 8035 Result Grade 40. These are available in the system if you have the correct basedata in the exams module, which you should have if the entries and seating have been done vias SIMS. You can use these in marksheets and reports like any other aspect: I have a big marksheet set up that pulls through all the results as this is the best way of getting an overview. You can also pull them out of the exams module in various ways without using the SIMS.net functionality at all. If you haven't already, get hold of the "Results Day Survival Kit" and "Guide to Importing and Analysing Examination Results". They are both linked from the SIMS documentation page. You'll also need access to the A2C application which may be installed only on the Exam Officers PC.

So did I - its much more flexible and useful for reporting assessment etc - However, to answer the original question, this requires the Timetable cycle to be modified in Nova-T6: the slots that are going to be registration for each day need to be defined as Registration Periods in the Period Type dialogue and they need to be set as Exclusive (to prevent the auto-scheduler scheduling normal lessons in them). The new cycle will then need sending to SIMS, with the correct period times in it. If your timetabler is well on with the timetable using the old system, they won't thank you for changing the cycle at this stage, as it involves a fair bit of back-tracking, although its is doable. I am the timetabler here and if someone suggested I do this at this point - well, strong words would be had.

They are likely to save money if they have a meter. My water rates were around £800 a year and my water bill with a meter was £350 last year. Unless its a large family house with a family in it, or the rates are unusually low, you are more likely to save then not. Having the meter also encourages you to think about your water usage, and as well as being environmentally better, this helps reduce the bill even further. I know I am more careful now becuase I know that every litre is metered, even though I would have a big saving anyway. As already mentioned, there is a cooling off period anyway, so it it doesn't pay, it can be removed.

You get this error if the path to the sims .net executable is set wrong. Check the SQL Link path under Tools | Set SQL Link Path in Nova. This should point to the folder where the SIMS .net Pulsar.exe file is located, C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net

Its your Data, your decision who has access to it. What is he there for ? If its a specific det of info he wants it should be possible to report on it and print it out, or as you say have a member of staff show him the data he specifically needs, but until you get chapter and verse on what he wants and why, and what authority he has to be there, he can take a running jump.

We only give them a server admin account - they know the account that SOLUS uses on the workstations though. I do let them have access to the server at their convenience, and don't watch them whilst they are working, but they always e-mail me to tell me what they are going to do and when. We don't tend to get them involved in supporting the user workstations: if its a single user/workstation, redeploy or re-image usually fixes it, and if its global they can have a temp local admin on a test machine.

Permissions on the SIMS share - or on the subfolder sims\options ? Or a line missing from sims.ini - I think it needs to have the SIMSDIrectory=\\pathname to sims share set ? Or no drive S: mapped if its done that way ?

Countdown clocks are no longer allowed. Current version of the ICE booklet explicitly bans them: "5.7 A reliable clock (analogue or digital) must be visible to each candidate in the examination room. The clock must be big enough for all candidates to read clearly. Countdown and ‘count up’ clocks are not permissible."

I don't think there is much of a worry with SIMS at the moment - they have kept CES as a seperate business and I think if worst came to worst it would either be sold off or spun out as a going concern. I believe that it is profitable in its own right. What might be more of a worry is if they try and integrate it more closely with the other Capita businesses to get economies of scale - that might make it harder to sell as a going concern if the wider turnaround of the business does not ultimately succeed.

They can take in watches; the ICE leaves it up to the individual centres how to manage this. If they keep them they have to take them off and put them on the desk though - they cannot wear them.

Unfortunately I think it was one of these one time only things - they had a big pile of them at the Manchester store and our Exams Officer just happened to be there with the bursar getting a load of other stuff. The next time we went they had all gone.

Countdown and countup clocks are explicitly not allowed in the current version of the ICE booklet. I think this restriction is new this year. Digital clocks are OK, and we got some really good big ones from CostCo, about £15 each, that are visible at the back of our Sports Hall.

You can do this sort of thing by building it into the timetable - if the programme of activities is regular through the year and does not change very much. You would need to get your timetabler involved in that though. We are open this morning but apparently only about 50% of kids made it, and about the same staff. Makes no difference to me as this is the third day I have been unable to get further than the driveway. Last night was I think the worst weather I have ever experienced - bitterly cold and snow swirling everywhere - its the wind which makes the conditions really bad - apprarently it was 100mph plus on the M62 where all the cars are stuck, which is not far from me. I feel really sorry for anyone that has had to be out in it for whatever reason. Fortunately seems to be moderating a bit now. Actually getting a lot of work done remotely, which is making me wonder how much I could actually work from home in normal conditions. (Except for the biscuits: at work they have biscuits - I've run out, and may be forced to eat the oatcakes in the back of the cupboard).
