We have an XP user environment, I'm permitting a selection of users to connect to a server via RDP (I won't go into the reasoning). Upon logging on via RDP to this windows 2008 R2 server, users get "The Recycle Bin on U:\Favorites is corrupted. Do you want to empty the Recycle Bin for this drive?" with "yes" & "no" command buttons. The U Drive is their user drive (\\SERVER\OFFICE$\USERNAME, favorites are redirected to here. I'm guessing this is a folder redirection issue - just wondered if anyone is able to clarify / inform me what the precise issue is? Thanks for your support, Andy

Just wondering the impact of changing our domain name (currently a .sch.uk). We run MS Exchange 2007. If we were to register a new domain (or speak with nominet), I'm guessing MS Exchange could still run under the old domain name & just forward mail to the new domain. Could this be hosted on the same server or would it require a different server? Open to thoughts & suggestions! Andy P.S. Also after a domain registrar who can handle .sch.uk domains where I'm able to control the DNS online?

I failed on the freebie front, but as it was my first visit to BETT with only a single day to attack things... I spoke to lots of companies most I'll be getting quotes from and possibly looking to buy from (including Smoothwall)!

Thanks for pointing that out Sivadam, unsure why SIMs found the liberty to assume registration times for AM & PM registration - doesn't seem a very clear set up routine (that and without any formal SIMs training it was a struggle)! Anyway resolved now and thank you for your festive support, must try and get on some formal SIMs training sessions to improve my knowledge!

the "copy lesson marks to session" for AM & PM option resolved these "none existent" registration periods from appearing on teacher time lines!

in the lesson monitor setup it forces you to define AM & PM registration periods....these marks are taken from within teaching lessons and no AM / PM registrations actually exist - when AM and PM are defined as P1 and P4 in lesson monitor setup - additional AM / PM registration sessions are placed in the teacher time lines!?

We've just upgraded to lesson monitor, we have a 5 period college day with a single tutorial period. p1 (am mark) p2 break p3 tutorial P4 (pm mark) P5 In lesson monitor setup, it won't allow us to continue without placing A / P in the relevant periods for each day, but when I put A in P1 and P in P4 it places an additional registration period at the beginning of the day - we register during p1 as an academic class. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction for this setup? Thanks, Andy

Yeah all of our reg groups and houses are set in pastoral structure etc. So the only way forward with attendance is to use lesson monitor?- 11 replies

[sims] Registration without Lesson Monitor
andy_whitlock replied to andy_whitlock's topic in MIS Systems
When they goto the "take register" section there is an AM and PM option as you suggest, but they are greyed out. I'm unsure why, though I believe this is because we don't have AM/PM registrations set up in T6 as ChrisH suggests!- 11 replies

[sims] Registration without Lesson Monitor
andy_whitlock replied to andy_whitlock's topic in MIS Systems
So in T6 we'd have to have two additional registration periods which would consume part of the P1 & P4 lessons? Shame there's no way to map it as a registration period! Is this a documented method? Advised or not?- 11 replies

We don't have lesson monitor, I'm not convinced we need it - could any one confirm if the below is possible (we are currently using OMR sheets - eek)! We want to register electronically, all classroom workstations have SIMs .net installed (pe being the exception)! A class teacher logs on to SIMs and from their timeline can select their current class. They are presented with a set list - but do not seem to be able to register the class. We only want to record AM and PM sessions, we register in class (first and fourth period), we have no specific registration period. It seems all set up to work (without lesson monitor) - but doesn't work. Lesson monitor seems very expensive for us as we wouldn't require registration for each period, we don't need any of the behaviour, reward features of lesson monitor. Hope the above makes sense, and hopefully someone can guide me in the right direction!!

We've had conficker here also. Manual clean, staff informed only to use cleaned pens. We've got autorun disabled and USBDLM on all workstations. All exes are blocked for users off pen drives. Mandatory encryption will be in place for staff soon (I hope). Would prefer to ban them - but staff would be lost without them. Need an alternative solution before they're banned (hopefully get there some day)!

looking at AUPs now, that sure is a very good Staff AUP. We're looking at a student AUP now and it seems an endless task and becomes more like a list of rules!

Is there any scope to impement ths forcing shut down? I'd like to offer users an over ride. then 30 minutes later shut the computer down - regardless of if it's locked or not!
