Hi All, How would you handle this.. I have Staff who simply do not appreciate GDPR full stop. So today I get a PII alert from an outbound email sent by my DSL, the email chain includes various NHS numbers sent via email, the chain was started by our County Council, it also includes Police, NHS Safeguarding, various NHS Trusts, a Housing association, Probation, another School and Social Worker. I will no doubt get back how else can they organise Teams meetings etc The Council already has Egress, as do we.. Thanks, Alastair

Sims I think are making self management tricky
Alastairb25 replied to chazzy2501's topic in MIS Systems
Given the complexity and risk factor I paid ESS, think it was £500 from memory around 1 year ago. It was more for peace of mind post move to help fix any issues. -
Hi, We got this through after a webinar from a member of Staff. I think its to do with DfE Training to do with Martyn's law, however I am unsure what this means, ie do they give us SCORM Module and then we add it to an LMS. However we have many systems so unsure what practically this means? TIA Alastair Thank you for your interest in the ACT for Education e-Learning course. Please find attached the policy acceptance document for the SCORM (Shareable Content Object Reference Model) files. This document contains the following information: An introduction to SCORM. Instructions for adding the e-learning module to your Learning Management system (LMS) Information on tracking user progress upon completion of their learning. The terms and conditions of the agreement. We kindly ask that you review the document and confirm your acceptance of the terms and conditions. Upon receipt of your confirmation, we will provide access to the SCORM files. Please note that we are currently experiencing an unusually high volume of SCORM requests. While we are working diligently to manage this demand, your request will be placed in a queue. We will notify you as soon as we are able to fulfill it. We appreciate your patience and look forward to your response. Kind regards, The Protect and Prepare Team, Department for Education

Firefly replacement - Sharepoint with CloudDesignbox?
Alastairb25 replied to alanteece's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
We tried CDB, looked good, however we faced internal issues with Staff acceptance. We visited a School that used it successfully, however they did have a Senior member of Staff on Teaching side who handled the implementation from a Teacher perspective. We do not have that so likely that is where it fell down for us- 3 replies

Hi All, We use Padlet and have found some emails being picked up by MS Defender Rather than https://www.padlet.com the URL comes through as https://u1.padletusercontent.com/ This was then ZAP'd by Defender To be fair I can understand why. the link looked horrendous and I have asked Padlet about it. Sparx did something similar and email from them started https://click.pstmrk.it/XXXXXXXXX After talking to them they said they wanted to keep tracking. Anyone had a similar issue. I do not think its wrong Defender flags it and its stopped, however Staff then complaining re held emails when the URL was suspect creates an issue. TIA Alastair

What RAID setup do you use in your school?
Alastairb25 replied to Sonic007's topic in Windows Server 2022
In a world of limited budgets, no training and no time to look into anything, a lot of solutions are making the best of the situation you have :- Two hosts running Smart spaces, standalone - 4 HDD and 4 SSD - Worked ok but once it started filling up the lag when it fell back to HDD tier was terrible We went for a HP3PAR All SSD RAID6 - our demand for storage skyrocketed thanks to Videos being used, electronic evidence for OCR as an example can be 25gb per file per Student Testing we went with mixture of Crystal Diskmark and ATTO -
Hi, Does anyone know if Lenovo have direct UK Education Sales department? I had a quick look and couldn't find much, signed up for a Lenovo account and got an email, but seems to think more Business focussed. Thanks, Alastair

Cisco 6506 with a spare in stock Asked existing supplier about replacing, however it would cost an insane amount to get not a lot, other than compliance with kit not being as old, ACL can still achieve a lot and 10gb to each edge means real world speeds approaching theoretical maximums Not the newest obviously, older Cisco gear provides great value however Most other times in Schools and MAT its always been HP ZL I have seen

Hi All, Does anyone use the Free version? We always had, and used to restore Upgraded to get onto latest platform In that time moved to Redstor for Local and Cloud, fixed £3995 per year Works well and local mirror Veeam renew came through Said we would just use it as we had done as a second Backup layer The answer came back "After the free mode expires, you’ll still be able to restore data from previously created jobs, but new job creation will no longer be available, with no support. If you’d like we can schedule a call with one of our System Engineer’s to discuss this further." We always used to use it free and don`t recall this limitation? For us just now this would be a second backup tier, hence happy to look at running it free version and use funds elsewhere, but without the ability to create a new job it would render the system pointless. TIA, Alastair

Student Data Retention
Alastairb25 replied to Alastairb25's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
This is purely IT stance, ie Home, Onedrive & Email We have a contracted service that covers more Data Protection and their advice is "If data has no purpose or there’s no legitimate reason to keep it, it can be destroyed." From that standpoint its arguable once they are no longer a Student we should remove Albeit I accept what Pete says above in respect of some kind of retention period if they come back or to give reasnoble time to request after they have left -
Hi All, With regards Student data :- Home folder Onedrive Email box What do people use as a retention period for leavers? TIA, Alastair

Hi All We use Adobe CC, mainly photoshop but this may expand Mainly Office spec machines, HP 600G1 and others around similar spec This presents a few problems :- Upgrade schedule will be over a few years, meaning existing machines not suitable to run Photoshop in the real world Classes might move around Deployment of Adobe CC to large for existing machines Has anyone setup an RDS (or similar) server using Graphics cards to allow clients to render server side? TIA Alastair

Hi, We have some Staff who use Youtube extensively They are in a Group to allow this We are using the Azure wagent-4.2.17.17 For some very specific users it seems to default back to Student We have explained this is somewhat by design, ie most restrictive and for safeguarding reasons Has anyone had similar or Know it what situation the wagent fails to identify a user We have calls open with SBB as well TIA Alastair

Hi All, We use MS Authenticator with 365 We find some users end up in an MFA loop, usually need three times to logon Its not always the case, has anyone had similar? We use Talk Straight / Schools Broadband Thanks, Alastair

Hi, We use a Wildix phone system with Daisy Communications for trunks. We find some schools the call just hangs up. Apparently this is our main school number being blocked. The provider (Daisy) can only tell us that a call blocking service has our main number listed We can change the outbound number, but then for the likes of the DSL other Schools refuse to talk because its not the main number Has anyone else experienced this ? TIA, Alastair

I moved to Redstor after using it at a previous MAT, where we had to restore a site for real. It was very good, albeit afterwards we bought resources to hold a local mirror as the restore speed was slow The ability to mount a drive and use it live or restore a VHD and alike was very useful We also found certain users machines we would put an Agent on to Backup the whole machine, which was a useful option

Hi All, We use Redstor as one of our Backup method I am keen to implement a Local Mirror https://support.redstor.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115002494814-942-ESE-How-to-keep-a-local-backup-copy This gives the following options On the local machine On a network share (UNC path)* On a removable drive With Veeam we used the option for a hardened repository, which seemed more sensible. How have others approached the Redstor local mirror question? TIA, Alastair
