+1 for Dovestones. Used to use a super expensive, but pretty good one. Then used CSVs. This year was the first year of using Dovestones and I loved it, particularly the modify for changing 2000+ display names.

I've also had it the other way round where something was, at best, opaquely referenced in the interview and then had to retract once it was given to me in black and white in the contract.

Ericom make a pretty swish clientless remote access solution that renders the remote session in HTML5 so all the client machine needs is a modern browser. If you add it to your gold image building sequence then subsequent deployments from that gold image won't take as long. Worth testing the usual, i.e. make sure it doesn't break anything.

I've got a peculiar problem Fresh El Capitan install. Mac is domain joined. Login with AD credentials works fine. HTTP and HTTPS proxy are configured via FQDN and the correct port. Kerberos is configured for the Sophos UTM which is acting as a proxy. (SPNs can be seen in AD) Running klist on the mac displays the UTM ticket. No HTTP proxy prompt happens and can surf happily. HTTPS proxy prompt does pop up Ideas and/or eduhobnobs welcome. (I should add this is the first time it's been tried. Our old Macs have the proxy settings set by IP address and prompt 24/7 which was kind of expected)

I've always found Philips Voice Tracers fairly easy to use. Save as MP3, hook straight into the PC as a USB storage device, most use standard AA/AAA batteries. They have a huge range from basic ones at ~£30, ones bundled with Dragon ~£70, to ones with multiple microphones ~£90.

We went as far as to have a VLAN for controllers and AP management as we've a moderately large deployment. The Wifi management VLAN doesn't carry wifi client data. The connection to the AP is a trunk with all of the appropriate VLANs allowed. The VLAN to SSID setting is tucked away under the advanced options of the WLAN.

Chris Bryant publishes his video courses on there. Take a look at the preview. Currently it's £21 for the CCNA one. I've personally bought his CCNA and CCNP video courses as supplementary material when I was studying and recommend them to all my friends. Perfect for switching. Couple more quid for a 3550 and you'll be able to do multilayer stuff too without a router, or add some routers in for a full lab.

My son's school use it. As a parent it's ok. For setting and submitting homework would Google Classroom fit the bill? However, does that have the parental view that SMH has?

Various supervisors, chassis (is chassis the plural of chassis?!) and software options are EOL, but the 4500E with an 8E supervisor card running 15.2+ is still current afaik. However, Cisco seem to be pushing the 4500 as a high density access switch with the 6500/6800 positioned in the core portfolio.

This is as a core switch? What about something modular like a Cisco Catalyst 4500 series? If you ever go to 10 gig you buy the (hilariously expensive) 10 gig line card(s) when you need it.

Keep in mind that's no doubt max performance going downhill with a good push. If it can packet switch in hardware then it can possibly get close to it. With insane numbers you may approach the limit of the device's MAC address table! No there's not, but the routing mechanism the switch uses will determine its performance. A good modern L3 switch is going to route in hardware at wirespeed. It's only going to process switch if something's gone wrong or the other mechanism's been disabled (e.g. CEF on a Cisco switch which isn't particularly CPU intensive). That's dependent on the model of switch. Even older Cisco 3750 models I've still got in use couldn't run every port at full whack simultaneously as the underlying switch fabric can't support it.

Similar story. My wife runs it in the lab she lectures in to reimage machines. Runs from a Virtualbox image stored on a USB HDD connected to her desktop PC. I wouldn't go overboard in allocating resources to begin with. E.g. If it needs a smidge more RAM as a VM then it's only a couple of clicks to sort that.

IIRC they had them listed as the four Cisco curriculum modules as separate courses. Their site's down at the minute, but I'm sure they were down as part-time evening classes.

When I did my CCNA via the OU Barnfield in Luton was used for some of the Saturday schools. They offer evening courses directly too.

What's the polling interval? Are you using SNMP polling or Netflow? With bursty traffic SNMP is only going to catch it if it's using that bandwidth when it polls the switch, so it looks normal for that. Sadly, most lower end switches aren't going to support Netflow and even more advanced ones often need an additional module or licence for it.

And write bit:subnets and subnet masks down the side of it before you start
