Only implement solar panels once you have done _everything_ else possible to reduce energy use. They are not a cheap or quick fix they are a good very long term way of reducing costs (i.e 10-15 years or so to pay back and a further 10-20 years of effective profit afterwards). Butuz

Are you sure you've got that the right way round? Raid 5 is generally the slowest to write and Raid 10 generally one of the fastest of the truly redundant raid levels.... Butuz

To be honest I'd go a different route. I think an 8 - 16 slot Qnap box of some sort plugged into any old workstation/server via NAS or SAS would be much more efficient and reliable as you can simply just leave the Qnap box to sort out all the raid storage stuff (as it's designed to do) and use the workstation/server to set up whatever backup software you chose. Also you can buy another Qnap box in another building and easily set them up to automatically replicate. Basically its a much less complicated much easier to set up way of doing it IMHO. Butuz

Looking at the cost of the bye bye stanby controllers and accessories it will take you a heck of a long time to recoup the investment. Also it seems to be a device aimed at the home user and I doubtt it would support hundreds of devices in a school. Butuz

I think people are getting confused with VMWares recommendations. They are saying it is best practice keep the number of vCPUs to the minimum required in order to be as efficient with physical CPU resources as possible. I.e. do not allocate 8vCPUs to a simple web server that barely even uses 1vCPU. What they Are NOT saying is "do not use multiple vCPUs ever" and this is the impression many people seem to get. If you have a vMachine that requires multiple vCPUs then that is fine - use as many vCPUs as you need. In my case I have 4 vCPU allocated to each of my Terminal Servers. They work fine, barely any different to physical. The actual CPU overhead due to using VMware is almost nothing its negligible. Happy vCPU'ing!! Butuz

Agree with m25 man. It could simply be that the UPS is not big enough for your two servers. Thus when you lose power the battery drains in less than 5 minutes and your servers go off! If you can tell us what actual servers you have we can help more. Cheers Butuz

Are you trying to make a copy and run both at the same time or are you trying to move the VM outright on to the new server? If moving downloading the existing VM onto a workstation and uploading to the other server always seems to work. Butuz
