What's wrong with that? Seems completely logical to me - SIMS is based on .NET (presumably C# looking at that JD) so why rewrite everything in a different language? I just hope that they take the time to remove a lot of the inconsistencies we see across SIMS.NET during the update.

I can't recommend a bike I'm afraid, but I will say this: avoid Halfords I decided to get in to cycling a couple of summers ago and made the mistake of buying a cheapo bike from Halfords. Ended up spending almost as much on it replacing the crappy gears, tyres, pedals, chain and saddle; it's almost a different bike now! Their service was crap too (bike and customer), ended up watching hours of YouTube and learning to service the bike myself. It's OK now, not great, but for the time and money I have put in to it, I'd have been better off just buying a decent bike from the start! I know Halfords have other, reputable brands, but all bikes need a decent service and you won't get that in [most] Halfords IME

We can't be far off all online, on-demand viewing being the norm anyway. IMO, the BBC's biggest mistake here is announcing this as the axing of the channel. They should have marketed it as the first all online mainstream TV channel in the UK. Eventually, I think this is how all TV will work; a show gets released on a certain date and is then available to view whenever you want. A lot of people watch TV they care about like this anyway now with the various DVRs out there...

If I lived near enough to London for the commute, I'd have applied! EDIT: this bit is a problem: You're asking for a very high level of education there IMO - why A level and not GCSE? With a technical degree, I wouldn't be looking for a DM job (I'm working on that!). Relevant professional qualification - the only one I'm aware of is SSAT and there aren't a hell of a lot of people who have finished that yet. SQL knowledge - well most SIMS users aren't allowed to touch the SQL backend for a start! Experience with SIMS.net and CMIS? Not many people can say they have that. You need to loosen your requirements, I can only imagine a school data consultant having that repertoire and they'll be earning a damn site more money than your average DM. Just my opinion!

+1 - I started City a couple of weeks ago after spending about 3 months on Asylum (family makes finish games take a long time!) Hopefully it'll be released on PC by the time I clock Origins!

Speaking as a Data Manager: as @Ecclesbury said, experienced school DMs are rare. Not every school has one, the vast majority that do only have one, and they're all usually quite new roles or roles that have evolved from others. Additionally, I have spoken to DMs from schools all over the country and one thing that is very clear is that no two have the same JD. Looking for experience shouldn't be your main goal here. You want someone who has outstanding Excel skills, is proficient in IT in general, preferably with knowledge of DPA. MIS systems, by design, are easy to learn; anyone with decent IT skills will pick that up in no time. A short test on interview is going to be your best bet for finding "the one" - give them a sheet full of raw data (names, ethnicities, gender, exam results - all fictional of course!) and ask them to produce your usual set of analysis, 5 A*-C inc English and Maths, 5 A*-G etc. and throw in a couple of vulnerable groups too, such as White British Boys. If they can do all that accurately, quickly and presented in a logical way, they're a strong contender for the post IMO.

You need to contact that company then. One of the major advantages of a CMS over a traditional website is to allow granular access to edit/add documents to the website, how you do so depends on the CMS used

I don't know for sure, but I'd assume it would be 8 - 5 (D* - P) to make BTEC/GCSE comparisons possible (this is what I use currently via lookup tables in SIMS), which puts D* equivalent to A* and P equivalent to C

Hi russdev, AFAIK, there's no way to add the current school's DfES number to a report. You can get student's previous schools, but not the current one. As for merging fields, again, you're out of luck in SIMS. What I would do to get around that is either feed the report in to a script that parses the CSV and merges the necessary fields in to a new column, or create an Excel report in SIMS with a macro to do the same job. It sounds like this is a report you'll want to run on various sites, hence the need to identify the source school in the report. I know it's not ideal, but using the Excel/Macro method above you could prompt the user for their school's DfES number and have you macro add it in to a column. If the point of the DfES number is purely to identify which school the report originated at, could you use the school's exam centre number instead? That is available in SIMS reports, however it will only show for students who have been added to the school's exams module as candidates, so it's not without setbacks of it's own...

True, but it's using the same Link-A-Media LM87800 controller as the Corsair Neutron series and it seems to be regarded as a very solid bit of kit and online reviews all seem favourable. Could be worth a punt at this price...

Sharepoint is your problem there, however I'm not sure what problems you've had with SLG - works fine in Chrome here. The point is, every website of any decent level of complexity will almost certainly have a load of workarounds hard coded in to it so that it will work in IE. The fact that IE even include 'Compatibility Mode' speaks volumes; why not just make a browser that follows standards like everyone else? IE stinks! The sooner it can be permanently ditched, the better IMO!
