@CAM - I've had similar issues and found that forcing Word to start a new paragraph after each page break did the trick. It's tricky to explain, but if you go to 'Outline View' on your template, you will be able to see all page breaks (dashed lines) and paragraphs (grey bullet point in the left margin). You need to make sure page starts with a new paragraph. For instance, imagine the '*' is a grey bullet point. This would be wrong: * This is some text on page 1. ------Page-Break------ This is some text on page 2. If you see that, you need to place your caret at the start of the text on the second page, hit enter to force a new paragraph, then backspace to shift it up to the [now blank] previous line. It should then look something like this: * This is some text on page 1. ------Page-Break------ * This is some text on page 2. As you're using tables for layout (as I do), then I imagine the first line of text on each page will be a '<>' tag so you can use that to enforce your paragraphs. If however each page's first element is the table itself, then I'd advise adding in a random piece of text above and making the font as small as possible and white (to make it invisible at print) to try this fix. Hope that makes some sense!

Hi @jedwards2, create a new report, focus should be "School > Subject". Add the 'Subject' field. For your filters, select the 'Classes for subject' subreport and set the condition to 'exist'. Click in to the 'Classes for subject' section, add a new filter on 'Students' subreport, again the condition should be 'exist'. Finally, add a filter to the 'Student's subreport on either 'Year Group' or 'National Curriculum Year' (or anything else you want to for that matter!) and make sure to tick 'prompt at runtime'. When you're done, your filters should look like this: The rest is up to you, carry on and present it however you like

I combat this by always having an SLR/dSLR with me, or at least a decent P&S - but even then there is still the odd occasion it's easier to just whip out my phone! EDIT: To be fair, I take quite a lot of photos [/shamelessPlug]

Yeah I'm always doing this, especially when it's something new (like my recent foray in to ASP.NET). Problem is, I start out with the basics and get to where I need but by the time I'm finished, I know a lot more about the technology than when I started and could do it again 10x quicker, faster and more efficiently! I'm slightly annoyed that the DPReview article used scanned negatives for the film comparison - they'll only ever be as good as the optics in the scanner, which are generally awful. Now, had they done a wet print and scanned that... Anyway, it doesn't really matter, does it? The best camera is the one you have with you.

I have been told by a few schools that they were chastised by Ofsted inspectors for not providing teachers with printed copies of key data, despite the fact that they showed that all of this data was available easily on the school network and that every classroom had a PC in it. In this day and age, I find that appalling. All anecdotal of course but I have no reason not to believe those who told me this.

I've found that since the last SIMS upgrade this has become even more awkward. I don't even bother trying to edit a template in place any more, I clone it, make the changes, then close and save as @CAM said. If that doesn't work, I clone that one again, open it up, run 'Verify', then close and save as usual. Couple of other random tips: * avoid putting tags in headers/footers as this seems to slow reports down significantly * always compress any images you use as this again will make them quicker (you can do this in Word, just click the image, go the the Format toolbar and you'll see a 'Compress images' button) * check the template in 'outline view' to ensure you have page breaks in all the right places with new paragraphs starting each page. You'll see a small grey bullet point to the left of any new paragraph, if you have text immediately following a page break without the bullet point, place your caret before the text and hit enter, then backspace to remove the blank line and your paragraph should be fixed. I found that if I skip this step, my pages sometimes managed to 'leak' in to one another and as I use tables extensively in my templates for formatting, they'd end up all over the place.

Your other option then is to hit eBay. I reckon if you're patient, you'll pick up a mini-ITX mobo with CPU, case and RAM for under £100, then just whack in a small SSD and you're good to go. Zotac used to do a lot of mini-ITX with CPU built in, they were extremely popular for media centres a few years ago, so you might pick one up cheap now. Not going to match an NUC for performance but if you'll literally just be using it as a media centre, it'll be more than powerful enough (much more powerful than an RPi)

I'd be looking in to that first, as sub £100 R-Pi is probably your only option unless you can pick up an NUC or nettop second hand. A quick Google suggests that there was/is a known bug in OpenELEC preventing streaming live TV. Before you spend any money, I'd try the RPi again with the latest version of OpenELEC and if you still have no luck, try it with RaspBMC. Could save you over £100!

OK and you mentioned that R-Pi won't work with your DVB streamer - is that because it's incompatible with Linux or just ARM?

Does it need much local storage or will it be streaming it's content from elsewhere on your network?

I had the opportunity to spend a week at BBC Birmingham last year and spent a little time with a couple of their engineers while I was there. A very important service the BBC do provide, but which isn't really advertised, is R&D. They are always working on new technologies and helping to develop real game changing ideas such as on demand services. I admit iPlayer isn't necessarily the best on demand service out there, but had the BBC not developed that and made it available for free, do you think Channel 4 would have done? As a commercial channel, it would be in their best interests to charge us to use it. It is important to have a network that isn't dictated by advertising and viewing figures, if for nothing else than to keep the commercial networks in check.

I suspect it's because they've [correctly] used scaled sizes in the CSS for the H3 tags, but as they haven't closed them then this scaling becomes cumulative. i.e. size set to 1.2em, making font 1.2 times larger than standard in it's context, but then repeats the scaling with each new tag added as it will look to it's parent element (the previously scaled H3 tag) for the "standard" size before scaling... I may be completely wrong

Exactly, you're all console gamers so let us real gamers get on with playing PC games! I am of course joking, although I am a PC "gamer" (I have a PC and play games on it but rarely new releases so don't know how much of a gamer you could call me!) I will probably eventually end up buying either an XB1 or PS4 - which will depend entirely on which has the best back catalogue at the point I have the money!

Oh dear, that is worrying. I can understand Sharepoint as a need to understand SLG (hopefully with a view to rewriting it without Sharepoint!) but Silverlight is a new low I seem to remember someone from Capita mentioning Silverlight, may have been in this thread... EDIT: it was this thread: So long as they stick to that, it sounds promising
