Those categories aren't actually generated by SIMS, it's a manual task to maintain them. Go to "Tools > Performance > Categories" and you can edit them from there

to Edugeek I'm afraid I don't have any personal recommendation for this; it drove our resources team barmy for a while but they have learned to live with Epson's bundled software for their needs. However, I would have a look at alternativeto.net - you can type in almost any piece of software and it'll recommend alternatives, so perhaps something there will do what you want? Which version of the controller are we up to now? First I've heard of a VR headset... It's a shame but I think they've totally killed the chances of a Steambox now. When the ball first started rolling and manufacturers started releasing pricing/specs, I really thought it'd have a fighting chance, but now with all these delays, I think the tiny chance it had of success have been totally squashed. That, and it's stupidly easy to make your own "Steambox" running on Windows, bypassing all of the compatibility issues that still haunt Linux as far as AAA titles are concerned. Valve needed to do a lot more a lot sooner I think.

Today I found out* Excel 2007 does not play nice with dynamic charts, losing the formula used to generate it's content on opening, whereas 2010 is fine with this. Solution is a macro to reapply the formula when the workbook is opened * is it killing anyone else inside that this thread isn't "today I learned" / TIL?

Reviving this thread, I've now got a loose plan in place. I'm going to trek to the top of Scafell Peak and ask for sponsorship for doing so. I'll get some sponsorship forms printed, but I'd really like to encourage people to sponsor me online if possible, but I'm struggling to find a suitable platform. Most I can find require you to raise for a charity (i.e. the money goes directly to the charity, not to yourself) so I can't use those. JustGiving allow personal fundraising, but at a cost of £15 a month - I'd wipe out about £60 straight away doing that! Kickstarter needs a funding goal, which means I'd need to set a minimum through that to see a penny of it, which I'm not keen on in case I end up getting a lot more donations "cash in hand" and miss out on any through Kickstarter due to missed funding goals. Another idea I had was to set up a static page on my personal website with a Paypal donate button, problem with this is I think I'll struggle getting anyone who doesn't really know me to donate this way; having a recognised fundraising site backing you will give more confidence in the legitimacy of the whole thing I think! Not that I'm expecting huge amounts of donations from strangers, but I think there are a couple of clubs I'm involved in who might raise a little cash for me through association and I don't want to put anyone off. Has anyone done anything similar and if so, which service did you end up using?

I tend to be playing whichever indie title was released free on Vita each month (with PS+), so at the moment I'm playing Rogue Legacy I rarely took a lunch break in the first 5 years I was here, but in the past 12 months I've started forcing myself to. So, at some point between 12/2, I'll take at least 30 minutes (an hour if I'm in early enough in the morning), phone off the hook and door locked. I'll either play my Vita or read whatever book/comic I'm currently on, have my lunch, play a bit of music, then back to work. I've found my stress levels have been greatly decreased and I have the focus back for the afternoon to be able to work more efficiently and without getting so angry about all the 'little things' - seriously, you should take a break. Working through is false economy.

By being balanced I did not mean love everything equally. I was talking about 'balanced' in the wider sense of being a balanced person and not having to either love or hate everything. For instance, personally I dislike Apple products. There are a number of reasons for this, cost being one of them. I am highly unlikely to buy an Apple product unless some future job requires it for these reasons. However, that is my personal opinion. The difference between having a personal opinion and being a fanboi/hater, is that I can state my opinion, give advice based on it, and leave it at that. Fanbois/haters won't accept that anyone else has a different opinion; they'll ridicule, belittle and snark at anyone who disagrees. They'll swear 'The Company' makes absolutely the best/worst products in the world, and they'll keep on and on at someone who disagrees, like their nagging is going to somehow enlighten them because, after all, their opinion transcends mere opinion, it is divine fact. Just had this email regarding potential breach of customer data. Though they don't name Lizard Squad specifically, they do say the hack was similar to those that "have targeted other high-profile sites and services such as Xbox Live and Sony's Playstation Network." Naming those two specifically implies to me that they're implicating Lizard Squad in the hack. EDIT: thought just occurred to me; weren't the XBL/PSN "hacks" actually nothing more than DDOS attacks? If so, then this email reads more like a "look, it happens to the best of us" excuse, since this is an entirely different issue.

Do you know what's just as irritating as a fanboi? An irrational hater. Seriously, I think a good mixture of advice has been given in this thread, but some people will just hate anything with an Apple logo on it regardless of the facts. Both good and bad points have been pointed out to the OP and they've made their decision, so if you have nothing further to add, why bother? How does it affect your life that the OP has bought something you wouldn't? It's their money, they can do what they like with it. EDIT: yes, I am aware of the irony of this post.

Just want to point out that logic board problems are not entirely Apple's fault. The EU ruled a few years ago that manufacturers must use lead-free solder. The problem with lead-free solder is that when exposed to extremes in temperature (like the GPU chip on a logic board), it cracks. This is what causes a failed logic board and can be fixed by a BGA reball (you can find people offering that service for around £100 on eBay). The same problem can happen in just about any piece of hardware made since RoHS came in 2003, but certain products seem to be affected more frequently, such as MacBooks and the PS3, probably due to insufficient cooling. TL;DR - the EU screwed our electronics (though it's probably for the greater good), but some manufacturers still aren't dealing with it well.

It's what I'm using at the moment with the OU - frustrating as hell for someone who is used to a full blown IDE like Eclipse! I can see the benefits when you're learning though. @timbo343 - might be a good argument for using BlueJ, it's common in Unis so knowing how to use it will help them if they go on to study Java at Uni. Also, Eclipse can quite easily be expanded to allow you to code in all sorts of languages, including C, which you may not want them doing...

If you have the cash to spare then why not? Just bear in mind the premium you're paying for Apple - if you can live with it (I can't!) then that's your choice - just don't come back in 6 months telling us how our Windows laptops that cost 1/4 of the price are inferior!

Java can be used for some fairly low level access to the OS. I'm no NM so have no idea how effective GPOs etc. are at preventing misuse, however I generally see schools who teach coding or run coding clubs either have stand alone machines for the task or use VMs. How likely it is they'll learn enough to do any damage is another question - although they could of course download someone else's code and run it if they're looking to cause you problems! EDIT: as for learning, BlueJ is a good IDE for that, it cuts out a load of more advanced features of bigger IDEs and provides easy to understand class diagram layouts; I'd recommend they look at that.

It's not something that can really be explained in a few forum posts, they sell whole books on Macros & VBA! Have a look at the links posted in this thread and work through some online VBA tutorials (Google throws this site up which looks good: Excel VBA Programming - a free course for complete beginners) Like I said earlier, if you get it working in Excel first so you can just run your macro and it formats everything how you'd like, then the next step will be to incorporate that in to a SIMS template, which hopefully the other links in this thread will help with - or you can come back and ask again when you're at that point

Yeah sorry, been one of those mornings, I'm in full on defensive mode. I haven't had a new phone in ~3 years, so I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S3. When I first had it, I had a 12 month £30 p/m contract on T-Mobiles unlimited plan - it was around that point I realized how much I was spending unnecessarily. Since then I've stuck with SIM only plans, and when this phone finally dies (it's getting there...) I'll buy a mid-range to get me through another couple of years. Current contract is with 3, SIM only 12 month, 200 minutes (I rarely use more than 60!), truly unlimited data, unlimited texts, 4GB hotspot allowance (this is for tethering, but is only used if you tether through 3's app, doesn't notice if I tether straight from Android! So I get unlimited tethering in reality), roaming use included in monthly allowances (in certain countries), £15 pcm. The main selling point for me was the unlimited data, as I tether my tablet, laptop and Vita to my phone when I'm out and about so can easily exceed 10GB in a month To be fair if you use Spotify it's not a bad deal. I do use Spotify, but since they made mobile use free, I stopped subscribing.

Been a while since I looked at contracts, but I've never paid more than £35 p/m for any phone. Look atyour actual usage over the past 6 months - what's the maximum number of texts/minutes you use? What's your data use? These 'unlimited' (they almost all have 'fair use' get out clauses) contracts are major overkill for most people, costing people £100+ every year they didn't need to spend. I'll stay out of it, was only trying to help.
