Hi all,
I'm sure this query has been raised before but I am looking for possible solutions to the issue of editing scanned documents now that Microsft Office Document Imaging software is no longer available post 2007 version.
Previously I used the MODI software as an invaluable tool for sacnning and editing the text/ images of my scans in order to make documents accesible to print disabled students. Since the release of Office 2010 without this software I have ben finding it increasingly difficult to edit/ adapt scanned documents into an accessible form.
I am aware that I can scan documents directly into OneNote and from there extract the text from the image, which is of some use. But this does not allow me to extract or edit the images that have also been scanned in. I am also able to scan directly into Word 2010 by creating my own keyboard shortcut, but again this has its limitations as this only allows me to save the scan as an image, so neither the text nor the image can be removed easily.
The beauty of the MODI software was that you could scan and then select the area you wanted to transfer as either text or an image and then paste it into Word directly. I have recently purchashed Abby Finereader as an alternative and whilst I feel it will allow me to do the things I need to do it is a quite complex piece of software so if there is anything else out there that is as user friendly and free like the MODI then I would be really grateful to hear about it!
Many thanks.
