I don't but have considered it; there are lots of things we sign up to that we both use (Netflix, Sky, Amazon Prime) that it'd be really handy for us both to receive emails from. Yeah, I could just set up forwarding but it'd also be handy to have these things just go to one mailbox and stay there.

@MattMitchell - thanks for that, very helpful. You're right, basing P8 on 3 year old data seems dumb to say the least. Surely, a 3 point moving average would give a much better basis? Basing it on a single year leaves the whole thing open to massive deviation, particularly for 2019-2021 when it's based on the early days and (by then) vastly different curriculum models.

@ICTLady - that was what my line manager on SLT has been saying - will have to make him aware of that!

@studio - don't use FFT's KS2 fine scores - they calculate them differently to the DfE (An analysis of Key Stage 2 reliability and validity) You can download KS2 data using UPNs from the K2S site, which will give you test scores

My understanding is that 2016 will be compared to the previously published Attainment 8 Estimated Outcome for 2013 (really annoys me that call it estimated and not expected...), 2017 against 2014, then from 2018 onwards a 3 point moving average will be used each year. Theoretically, yes it is possible for every school to have a positive P8 when working with previous year's data (which is the best we'll have for monitoring) - however this means the following year's P8 will be significantly higher than previous. It's based on averages so there will always be some + some -. Already seeing big changes - I applied 2017 point scores and latest (2014) Attainment 8 expected to my 2016 cohort; they went from an overall positive P8 to well below floor standard (-0.5) This is going to be messy for a few years! Don't forget - everyone must be above average

Purposely skipped to the end of this thread in case of spoilers - I'm watching it but only on second series and it's very slow right now. I don't mind, but I'm having a hard time convincing the OH which is frustrating as I know how much more interesting the story is going to get (I'm working through the comics too, almost finished compendium 2 so way ahead of where I am with the TV show)

Syntax highlighting really is a game changer. Might sound odd to some who have only started coding fairly recently, but way back when IDEs were either prohibitively expensive and/or had a steep learning curve, a lot of us would just write code in Notepad then painstakingly trawl through looking for mistakes when it doesn't work. These days, the thought of editing code without syntax highlighting gives me cold sweats! Add auto-complete/IntelliSense to the mix and I don't think it's ever been easier/lazier to be a coder!

Do you mean automatically? So if a user enters a 'T', it's automatically replaced with the cost? If so, that'll require some VBA. The headings are up to you, I just made them up for example's sake - the important part is the costs listed above them; it just provides an easy way to update costs or add new columns, but you can hide that row before users see it.

There are a couple of ways to do this. Personally, I'd use a SUMIF here as it's a simple true/false test, but SUMPRODUCT is worth learning and understanding as you can do some much more complicated formulae with it. Example of how both work in this scenario is attached for you. sum example.xlsx

You have to be running the 64 bit version of Java to allocate >4GB RAM My PC is an i5 (4.2GHz I think...) with 8GB RAM, GPU is a GTX 560 with 2GB. I allocate Minecraft 6GB of memory and I use the Sphax texture pack at 256. I use Optifine with all settings maxed out. Runs perfectly, but it uses every bit of that 6GB. Whilst I mention it, Optifine is worth installing on, well, every machine you can IMO! It gives you much more granular control of the game's settings, allowing you to get the best quality/performance balance for the machine. The settings it gives ought to be available by default really. Only problem is because it's not an official part of MC, it runs a little behind MC's version (when I checked on Saturday for instance they hadn't released a 1.8.3 version yet - the latest version of MC)

It was commissioned by Brother, so it has a barely hidden agenda to convince schools that buying new printers from them will somehow improve T&L. This line is very telling: I don't doubt that IT provisions aren't as good as they should be in many schools but I'd also be willing to bet that if the NMs were surveyed, they'd almost all be aware of this but unable to do anything due to budget constraints.

I agree, but would go further than that and say 8GB minimum - I'd imagine the integrated graphics will be OK, though I'd still be tempted to get a discrete GPU (doesn't need to be anything fantastic, just a mid/low range with 2GB of memory) If you can push to 16GB RAM, I would. It's an horrendously memory hungry game, and each mod you add just increases the amount of memory it'll hog. My daughter's PC has a 3.4Ghz i3, 4GB memory and a 2GB GT 640 - it runs Minecraft absolutely fine with a few mods, but some of the really big mod packs she wants to play (YogsCast Complete pack for instance) slow it to a crawl. I'm going to bump her up to 8GB soon. That first PC you listed would probably be fine with a memory upgrade.

It is a different issue, but when the stuttering happens so quickly it's only perceivable in a massively slowed down capture of the original image, it seems like something of a non-issue to me. Don't get me wrong, I have seen the issue get bad enough to be able to see it clearly unaided, I just think sometimes people go far too deep in to their search for 'problems' when in actual fact, if my eyes aren't capable of spotting the issue, what's the problem? It's similar to the audiophile crowd who will use expensive measuring equipment to prove their speakers produce sounds at super high/low frequencies - yeah that's great, but if I can't hear it*, why does it matter? * I know really low frequencies can be felt rather than heard

I imagine with 120Hz it'd be difficult to spot any tearing with the naked eye to be honest, but if you put it under scrutiny with a slow-mo camera, you'd see it I'm almost certain. Not that it matters! I have to laugh when you hear about micro-stuttering problems in SLI setups, then when you look for evidence they need a slow-mo camera to show you - so what?! If I can't perceive the issue, why does it matter? But yeah, on my lowly 50Hz (!!!) monitor, V-Sync is essential for me.

Actually, I believe screen tearing is more likely at higher FPS - it happens because you GPU redraws the scene quicker than your monitor refreshes, resulting in different images being drawn simultaneously on screen (monitor starts displaying one frame, GPU updates it before monitor has fully refreshed, next frame is in memory so starts to get drawn, you see 'tearing'). This is why V-Sync exists - it forces the GPU to limit it's FPS to match the monitor's refresh rate. This means a maximum FPS equal to your monitors refresh rate, but no tearing. I'll always opt for lower FPS as tearing drives me nuts! With a 120Hz monitor, you can squeeze in roughly double the number of frames per second over your average monitor (50-60Hz) EDIT: final thought, this is why G-Sync/FreeSync seems like a very good idea (that's what Nvidia/AMD call their version of essentially the same technology respectively). This works similarly to V-Sync but in reverse - the monitor adjusts it's refresh rate to match the GPU

Are they actual fibre connections (i.e. fibre optic terminal screwed in to the back) or FTTC (i.e. telephone line)? BT don't use credentials AFAIK, so just about any router will do (so long as you get the right type, ADSL/Fibre)... except for Sky! Sky do use credentials and there's no way of changing them that I know of on the router. You can try it, but I doubt it will work because it'll be sending credentials and presumably expect an auth response, which I wouldn't have thought it will get.
