When you log into AD on a mac with our without a management system link centrify you have the option to force local home drives or mount the home drive to the home drive attribute on AD. This option is in directory utility under the advanced options of Active Directory. If you tick the box to force the home drive to the local drive then all work will be saved locally but it will mount the home drive and put it on the desktop / Dock. If you untick the box all work will instantly be saved to the windows home directory. Ross

I have found in previous versions that the user has to have read access to the prior folders before hitting their home drive. Also An odd issue I hit before was with the search domain on the network card. Do you have the FQDN of your domain in the domain name of the DHCP option? Because most windows networks use the netbios name Apple has issues with these names sometimes so by having a search domain it adds the FQDN at the end of the computer name. (Hope that makes sense!) Profile Manager has a lot of limitations. I would look at a free third party MDM solution called Meraki. You can only restrict a certain amount with any MDM its hard to get your head around the powers of group policy compared to locking down an iPad. Put it this way with all the options in group policy you have 2% of the power of locking down an iOS device as you would with windows. Ross

There is a lot of difference in regards to management from Leopard to Mountain lion. The most noticable is you no longer have server admin and its all managed within Server and workgroup manager. You can still achieve the same setup as leopard just need to do it a different way. On a lighter note it is a lot more easier to integrate Ross

Have you added the managed.app from /System/Library/Core Services into managed preferences to give you more preference options? I have had no issues in the past with using the desktop plist.

Completely agree that profile manager is a bit hit and miss at the moment and workgroup manager is what I recommend and still install now a days. Ross

2008 R2 Hyper-V Cluster / Dell MD3200i / iSCSI Configuration

Have you mapped the luns to the hosts on your MD3200i? Ross -
You can manage the dock with a mac server by user group or computer. So say if Music had music specific software you could do that by computer and manage all the groups with your generic software. You can change file associations on the image. Ross

Which version of OSX are you using? I would be tempted to say it could be home drive releated but you need to check the console log to see why its failing. Ross

Have you looked at the console logs? It maybe work changing to force local home drives as well within the Active Directory settings in Directory utility. Ross

Why do you have it setup like that? It does not matter if you have one VLAN. If its because of imaging you can use IP Helper-address to get imaging over VLANS. All signs really point to DNS or VLAN tagging. These situations are hard to diagnose without a physical machine to look at lol.

Can you try it by doing it via the command line. dsconfigad -f -a (COMPUTERNAME HERE) -domain (FQDN DOMAIN) -u (Domain Admin Username) -p (Password for domain admin) -ou (EG, ou=computers,DC=domain,dc=com) I have a script on my blog = Script to bind to Active Directory (10.7) - How To Mac | How To Mac I have been on sites where the gui is not happy and script seems to work... In the end to get around radius I have setup a new hidden sid just for the apple tvs. Bit of a lazy way but does the trick. This can then be pushed with the Apple Configurator. Ross

Have you specified which domain controller to use? Maybe worth adding that instead of All Domains. Ross

This maybe worth a shot. I remember having the same issue before. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4289205?start=75&tstart=0 Ross

It is always recommended that you administrate the server with the same version of workgroup manager. 10.6 + added a lot more features and changes to workgroup manager so I would be suprised if you could administrate a 10.5 server. Ross

You can restore individual files by going back months but this depends on the storage capacity. You can also restore the whole OS by running your OSX Server install and under utilties you can restore from time machine. Ross
-
You can buy a nas drives which has time machine support. Once its enabled you can add the disk to time machine. Or you can use Carboon copy cloner and produce .DMG files which can be stored on a network drive. Both affordable options Ross
