That was a hell of a try from Fiji, wasn't it? As was predictable, the quick turnaround put the bonus point win out of Wales' reach... so if both Wales and England lose to Aus, and if we'd taken the draw against Wales, England would have gone through by virtue of Mako Vunipola's last minute bonus point try on the opening night. Graargh! Why was Robshaw the only Englishman who couldn't predict that? Australia aren't invincible though. Only seen them play Fiji (didn't get the bonus point) and Uruguay (hardly a challenge) - so it could all still be to play for. If they lose to both Wales and England, after all, it could be the home nations going through (They won't though. Aus to top the group, Wales to run Aus close but still lose and come second. English hearts to break and Lancaster signing on at the job centre.)

It's a fix!

The purpose of the rule is to protect & encourage the domestic league though... and what would protect & encourage it more than a World Cup victory on home soil? Keep it for the Six Nations & the Autumn Internationals, even for every other World Cup, but this time, this one time, the rule is doing more harm than good IMHO.

I do agree with him that we should be shipping Steffon Armitage over pronto, though, especially now Billy Vunipola is out and we're calling up Nick Easter again, who is probably making his way to the training ground via his free bus pass at this point. Domestic players rule really should have been suspended for a home World Cup.

I've spoken to my account manager at Stone about this as well, and his reassurances couldn't have been firmer - not "everything will be sorted", but "everything is already sorted and there's no danger of it going wrong".

It's 8 years since the first iPhone. 8 years of everyone carrying WiFi and cellular radiation all but against their skin for the majority of their waking lives. It's the biggest data set you could ask for. Have cancer rates gone up? No. They've gone down.

Super boring update time! Photography have decided the proper calibrated Epson XP-750 photography printer is too expensive to print to all the time (and they're right) and they want a cheaper option for internal work and draft printing. So I got some photo paper to check how the X451dw was. And you know what, it's not bad. Prints are a little dark, losing detail in the shadow, and a little over-saturated and purple (particularly on skin tones), but for the most part it's pretty decent going. Photography are happy with it for draft printing, anyway, and it's certainly a country mile better than printing photos to the laser printer. Honest question: why do they even bother making laser photo paper? It's all just horrible. I need to see if I can calibrate the printer at all, or find an ICC profile for it (or a way of creating one, even if only subjectively), but stick any old glossy photo paper in and it's pretty good going for an economical office printer. Do put the photo paper in the manual feed tray face down though... makes a right mess inside if you put it face up, and all the ink goes on the non-printing side and doesn't soak in and spreads itself all over the print heads. Intense boredom can set in whilst waiting for the ten minute cleaning cycle to complete.

For a DC/DNS/DHCP (DCNSHCP?) you don't need any more space than you'd get from a 120GB SSD in a RAID 1 mirror. RAID10 is no more fault tolerant than RAID1 - less, if anything, as you've got more disks and thus more chance of something going wrong. An extra SSD that small is not going to add a great deal to the cost of the server, so it's absolutely worth it considering the benefit.

Cheers Daley - reassuring to get it from the horse's mouth. The tangle of similarly named holding companies was a bit confusing to wrap my head around (even though I'm aware it's standard working practice) so I'm happy to hear all will remain well, regardless of the judge's decision. @clockend25 - we had a spate of account managers for a while, but it's settled down for us this last year, and we have a really good account manager now - Dominic Roberts. It's astonishing the difference a good account manager makes, and I've gotten to the point where I just stop dealing with companies who don't have that. And just to emphasise - all my previous dealings with Stone have been excellent, I've spent a long time on here recommending them for PCs, and I continue to stand by that. If all is well in Confusing Business Finance land, then I'm happy as a pig in mud. The ~150 machines we had this summer were the first time in six years I've had a big summer delivery right first time, and that's no mean feat.

The 100 we have from 3 years ago haven't skipped a beat, so I'm not overly concerned, and the success we've had with them played into our decision to purchase from them before the summer break (clever timing with the administration announcement, that), but I'd feel more comfortable if they were to continue in business!

High Court judge deciding future of Stone Computers • The Channel Stone's parent company (Stone Topco and Stone Bidco) went into administration in August as they couldn't continue payments on their debts; potentially Stone Computers could be rescued by a "pre-pack deal" (whatever that is) but there's some dispute over the way it's been dealt with, and the judge could yet put the whole lot into administration. Most worryingly... Around half our network are Stone PCs, including 150 we just bought on a five year warranty. Not what I wanted to hear. If you're putting an SSD in then RAM becomes less important anyway, because the page file is on much faster storage, and so running out of RAM and spilling into storage is nowhere near as noticeable.
