This is purely hearsay. But I heard Arbour turned the contract down as northern Ireland wanted all schools onboard in 12months and Arbour said this was not possible and didn't want to offer something they couldn't see through. Again this is hearsay. But fair play to Arbour if true.

I miss the old spice works network monitor. It was the prettiest and easiest to read monitor I've ever used. I know there is an updated one now but the old one was lovely. Not sure why they scrapped it.

I might try out true nas then. Shame Synology doesn't use that file system. I couldn't find any real documentation or best practise online to make it work. This may be a really stupid question.....but could i put truenas on a hyper v VM on our SAN? Or is that just stupid?

Any recommendations on which NAS I should get if I get the budget for it? Any features I should look out for? It seems mad a decent SAN properly plumbed in with teamed 10g ports and proper enterprise SSDs raided together can be out done by an off the shelf NAS.

I think the Imacs only have gigabit ports. Unless there's some kind of expensive adapter that can go in the Thunderbolt port?

Currently, we have a new Imac m3 Mac suite just set up and enrolled with Jamf Education. 1g to desktop 10g connecting switches and a pretty fast SAN. Could someone please enlighten if/how we should best setup a file share where kids can dump their logic pro projects onto. We currently having them saving locally which is annoying but means we dont have any speed issues We seem to try it every few years but with no luck and im sure other places must have got this right. Should we be looking at a dedicated piece of hardware rather than a windows SMB file share on a SAN? Thanks for any advice!

I'm delivering some data protection training soon which Ive done in the past but would would like to add some real-world tips and tricks and examples of simple things we should be mindful of and can go wrong. Some things like: BCCing when sending things outside your organistaion Sending anything sensitive should be encrypted Etc Etc Cheers in advance

It is great that Microsoft have tried to unify the Onenote app but is anyone finding class notebooks when distributed are much slower to be synced? We are having teachers distribute pages in the morning and pupils do not receive them until the afternoon even after a forcing a sync. Has anyone else seen or noticed this at all? Also why oh why is the class notebook an addin for onenote and not baked in the app......

I think these are all fair points from the parent. We are essentially breaking the internet to be able to filter and monitor effectively and we are putting a huge amount of trust in these companies not to slurp a whole lot of data. I'm not practising what I preach here as I have senso/securly and a PA firewall decrypting everything but in my heart of hearts I wouldn't accept this for myself and wonder why we blindly accept it for our kids. It's a complete tight rope and I really wouldn't want to fall off either side. Sorry no help in answering your questions but don't be defensive with the parent. Be open and transparent , maybe ask them what they would do if faced with the same challenges that schools are.

I think the "appropriate technical measures" are the governors having the ability to use MFA not you being able to check up and audit if they are using MFA

All fair comments but I'm gonna double down. Been governor at 2 schools. We've always worked on the assumption they anything could be requested or viewed. Nothing is sensitive. Parental complaints that could involve children's names are stored differently and not everyone is Prive to them. Staff names never included next to anything HR related. Having said this, like you I would still prefer MFA. I really don't think you need to police this though. If you asked them to do it and they have agreed and signed off they've done I really don't think you need to Audit it. This is the same with myconcern which holds the highest sensitivity of data. I do agree it would be good to have but I don't think it's a need to have.

I have to agree with FN-GM I have burned badly by HP San and it seems mad we would have ever planned a single point of failure into our setup previously had hyper converge been around previously. Unless you are looking at 2 sans mirroring each other which would be mega bucks then shared storage over the hosts is way better IMO. Is it worth revisiting the project without the SAN involved....just to see what the price and spec looks like?

I don't disagree about the importance of MFA but out of interest what personal information is stored? Everything should be anonymised and available through FOI anyway. Also if you've asked governors to do this as part of your policy then that's what they should do. If it's not in the policy then it's not. You shouldn't need to have to police it.
