I'd personally not do it in apache, I'd do it either on the box itself with iptables/ipfirewall or upstream preferably to take the onus off of your box completely. But if you want to do it, you could use deny from 1.2.3.4 in .htaccess

Don't buy one with a T5870 CPU if you want to run 64Bit VM guests as it doesn't have Intel VT (VT-X). The more expensive ones with the P8700 CPU does however have this support.

Yup, you can do quite a lot with it. Grab a copy and install it on a linux box and see how it goes. Be aware though, it doesn't play well with existing Apache installations, fresh box and have a bit of fun

But if you move a share "SharedDocuments2 from Server1 to Server2 it breaks for everyone? I understand the flexibility in letting people map their own drives etc but in my past experience people weren't technically able to understand this and perform it for themselves so it made sense for us at least to map them on logon allowing us to control what was where. Horses for courses though. That said, if they are able to map drives etc on XP, once they've done it on W7 it'll roam OK, just a pain as you say doing it again but I very much doubt you can avoid that.

Hi Adam, Welcome to Edugeek I'd consider Zimbra for this straight off of the bat. - Zimbra offers Open Source email server software and shared calendar for Linux and the Mac It'll use your AD credentials etc out of the box with no drama. There's lots of us on here who've got experience using it and it really is very good indeed, have a trial run on their site to see what you think. Oh and it's just fine even on the free version

Ah, I doubt very much if you'll get that to roam between environments fella, would suggest looking to move towards mapping drives at logon. How do you handle moving server/share locations if folks have manually mapped stuff? That would do my box in!

How are you deploying the printers, drives etc?

From my (limited) experience you're not going to get an XP profile to play at all, I'd make a new one on W7 and go from there. Mind you, I believe it will append the .V2 itself so in theory you shouldn't need to touch anything and everyone will have two profiles, one for XP, one for W7 but settings won't roam between. There's a few good folks on here who are in the throws/have done this already, I'm sure they'll have some better answers.

The .V2 is for Vista/7/2008R2 profile versions, not compatible with XP. Are you using roaming profiles or so? Is this scripted or part of a mandatory profile or what?

So here we are, 3 days count down has begun (started thinking about packing) for the trip of a lifetime to Cameroon to lead and try and stimulate change with an ICT Focus. I fly out this Saturday 5th of December at middle-of-night-oclock returning the following Tuesday the 15th hopefully armed with pictures, stories and even a movie introducing the Community (may name it a Study) Centre. The objective for this trip is to deploy a solution for a 'walk in' centre for local people to have access to facilities to learn skills in ICT. Unfortunately as the container ship will not be there when we arrive, the most recent kind donations will not feature as much as they will do ultimately but we are intending on taking a few of maniac's TC1100's in hand luggage to put in place as an example moving forward. We will also be visiting local schools including "private" ones to see their usage of ICT and whether a solution can be refined further to provide sustainable, high quality yet affordable provision for all and sundry. As we all know, ICT provision & service delivery is important; more so in this case is the documentation as with me being thousands of miles away and a lack of internet for remote support, training the trainer (ala FITS) will be crucial to ensuring local resources can maintain and perform routine tasks on the solution. My intention is to write a post per day whilst I'm over there but they may come in bundles depending upon my access to the cybercafe (should I find one!). This trip may be the first of many but I'll know much more after this first one. Just another thank you to everyone for their help, and if it does turn out to be the first of many thank you to everyone who has chipped in with offers of help and support technically and non-technically. Nobody can do everything; but we can all do something.

Not at all fella, I just think you were a little harsh in your comments only partially quoting what he said as fact. At the end of the day, other suppliers are charging more and may be making more or their unit cost may be higher, there's no way of knowing for sure. For Simon to have dropped his price that quickly it was a classic save face approach having just been trumped by a fellow sponsor. I should probably point out I've not bought anything from Simon since leaving IT in Education 8 months ago.
