  1. Ah, yeah, in that case either move hardware under mahara, or we can look at vhosting if I get you some examples?
  2. Hi reggiep, Two ways of looking at this; you should be able to use it as you're doing via http://ip/hardware (assuming it's extracted there and not /var/www/hardware/blah) as long as the defaultroot is set to /var/www. Or you can look at vhosts which make it a bit tidier as you can use a sub/domain eg helpdesk.yourdomain.com and vle.yourdomain.com both pointing to completely different places.
  3. Shared graphics I bet.
  4. Quick post just to commend Smoothwall (and the sheer number of team members who've turned up in this thread) on their attitude to pulling the release just to be sure whilst offering support to anyone who may have installed it. Fair play to you guys, it's no wonder Smoothwall continues to be an absolute success. Kim.
  5. Install GPMC if you don't already have it asides from gpedit. By change do you have something to work with already? I tend to have "Computer Settings" and "User Settings" at the simplest level for two GPOs and then only edit Computer Config stuff in computer settings, and user in users then it's a case of going right through the list and setting it up exactly how you want it. Not a fan of shortcuts when it comes to this I'm afraid, it pays to read into the policies and what they are doing.
  6. VERY good post mate, +rep.

Not at all Gareth, not at all mate, your kind offer is more than appreciated and truly fantastic indeed. I'm very touched indeed. Had it confirmed, I fly out on the 5th of December, server put into container yesterday so it's on its merry way!

A quick update, Mr Grumbledook has worked his magic for us (Not going to say anymore, he can if he wishes to:)) Just received a shiny 16GB Kingston memory stick (no expense spared!) from CP, cheers guys, that's gonna be me owing Joe and Si some proof reading for a while Thanks again everyone.
  10. Cheers Andy, beat me to it
  11. All the very best for the day mate, hope you had a good one.
  12. Hang on, by local do you mean a 169.x from windows itself, or local as in a 192.168.x.x IP from the wireless device, you say router, if it's truly a router do you want it to be doing that or do you want a simple AP function (where DHCP is relayed upstream to your server) rather than routing?
  13. Is it doing its own DHCP or are you allowing the server to do that? Compare ipconfig /all between one connected to this new device, and one connected to a working one.
  14. How are the servers connected to the ups? serial? network?

I believe there isn't any phone connection at the schools themselves yet which is partially to blame for a lack of internet connection. (Running copper isn't cheap!). I'm hopeful for a data connection of some sort but cannot assume !
  16. We like things that happen like that

The schools aren't likely to have an internet connection so we're putting in a 'high' spec desktop PC to handle the 'server' function itself with hopefully a donated 250GB USB HDD kindly offered earlier in this thread. It's 2003 R2 AD etc with redirected desktops, startmenus, shared docs etc and it has an internal mail server, moodle, etc etc so in effect a 'local' platform model so if the moodle grows they can share resources (courses) in the local area or we can offer 'update' CDs which local people can import or if all goes well and I'm back over there again we'll have patch cycles anyway! Of course a big concern for all and sundry will be the whatif factor, what if something breaks, what if this happens etc, the idea being I will train interested people on the ground (train the trainer..) and have documentation in place to hopefully handle majority of eventualities but of course the worry is there that an issue will come up that nobody can resolve and that's where we need to get a bit clever. - Mark from Nabwood (marekbrad) has kindly offered a 3g usb dongle that may or may not work (we'll find out!) in the area but if it did, that combined with logmein on the server could in effect create a remote support effort, or it would need to come back to the charity hq where an internet connection is present to dial in that way. There's a lot of unanswered questions at the moment but I'll know an awful lot more once I get there and see what the objectives for the local teachers are, afterall they are the ones who can really facilitate the change with the best tools.

Morning Vik, Pleasure as always to hear from you fella. I'm planning on taking a few copies of the UBCD, Memtest86, etc and also some CDs/DVDs with stuff like Openoffice, etc for anyone local businesses or so that may be interested. I'm in the throws now of preparing the first server build this end to go into the container this week to travel over so it's there when I get there. (can't take too much on the plane!) Documenting the world as I go!
  21. Thanks everyone, will have a read now!
  22. Yep it is, should I be looking at using the R2 PMC?
  23. Good morning all, Further to my recent thread here about my ventures in the coming weeks I'd like to get some advice and best practice on printer deployment on a vanilla network. How do you folks do it? It need not be too complicated I wouldn't have thought, I'm just wondering the best way of deploying drivers to the machines and having them mapped at logon. Thanks for your input, great minds and all that jazz. Kim.
  24. Agreed. (less pass, will still watch it ... can't hold out!)
