  1. Indeed, that was my belief but it does seem that most adverts which attract discussion seem to be centric to pay when we all know that different areas, different jobs, different circumstances command different levels of pay. Whether we like it or not. Was your retail position an apprenticeship and give you a qualification at the end of it? If not, it's not a fair comparison.
  2. Might be worth a look / post in the Edugeek CLEO forum here fella. Hopefully someone in there will have experience of putting something like a Smoothwall appliance or so in to help you fight the good fight. Welcome to Edugeek btw
  3. What are you using for your internet filtering currently?
  4. Shall keep an ear to the ground for you fella. Thoroughly nice bloke if anyone's looking.
  5. Correct; if it gets an IP from DHCP it will still be able to communicate on the network. Reggiep, try connecting to the laptop from another machine via \\nameofmachine\c$ and look in Documents and Settings and see who's username is the newest modified one, might help pinpoint the owner.
  6. What problem are you having? And yep, agreed Softlink's helpdesk are useful.
  7. My experience with CC3 has always been to examine their cached profile with IEHistoryViewer. IE HistoryView: Freeware Internet Explorer History Viewer
  8. Does it 'shut down' in the windows sense or the power go on it? If the former, that's just twisted, if the latter I've heard of cases where students+static=weird and wonderful results. Short of that, I hear the ghost busters are available ... (Seriously though, very interested in the outcome)
  9. I'd just talk to her all day... Probably better having Chris answer the phone, get more work done
  10. That's a bit harsh.
  11. Agreed that OpenDNS is great but the only thing you'll have to watch for with that is if you're sharing the PC with her it may become a chore switching between DNS servers.
  12. I've heard very good things about K9. About K9 Web Protection - K9 Web Protection - Free Internet Filter and Parental Control Software
  13. Welcome aboard Cyclops
  14. John, Noted, investigating.
  15. Always a pleasure.
  16. 24/7 wise I only run one these days, it handles internal DNS/forwarders, webserving, inbound connections gateway and is responsible for pulling back ups from several servers overnight. I used to run lots more but I'm quite happy with this one just chuntering away to itself.
  17. Can you try the following: telnet pop.siriusacademy.org.uk 110
  18. I went on their site and found it. Link Product Family - Cutters Product Model - Second one down, CM-300/400/500
  19. Try this driver. Ext2 File System Driver for Windows | Get Ext2 File System Driver for Windows at SourceForge.net
  20. Ext2 IFS For Windows: Troubleshooting Top question on there, see if that helps?
  21. You sometimes see that if the ext3 wasn't cleanly unmounted. Another vote for ext2fs; not tried on W7 though:)
  22. Mmmmmm this is a beautiful case, many thanks fella.
  23. John is definitely a special one To clarify though, the issue has been escalated up throughout the teams and we're expecting some feedback very soon. We have several customers already up on Q3 without any problems, even before the recommendation (amended release notes) for Q2.5 came around but I do understand the hesitations folks are having. (It is good to know the rollback works smoothly!) I would award John a certificate for finding the weirdest problems known to man... (But lunch on him will do instead).
  24. Firstly, can you ping machine from the curriculum range, if not, try machine.admindomain does this work? If not, you don't have DNS in place to see it. Try mapping with the IP and it may well work.
