This issue cropped up because symantec AV wouldn't remotely update the definitions on a laptop. Essentially i can ping the laptops IP address but not it's name. nslookup returns: *** %server%.%domain%.internal can't find %machine-name%: non-existent domain We recently had some extra vlans installed for a couple of new wireless SSIDs and new DHCP scopes and DNS zones setup to match. There are no PTR records in the new DNS zones at all, even though i have configured a dozen or so laptops to a new SSID/vlan Can anyone advise?? Thanks

this is interesting, i have 3 ibm thinkpads at home that have a comment vga dry joint problem. The solution i read was to heat the vga chip up gradually with a heat gun and then cool it back down again. This could be an alternative, still means i've got to strip the things down though

to be honest i'd rather not use the staff room for 3 reasons 1) it's over the other side of site, inconvenient 2) noone takes responsibility for cleaning anything 3) voluntarily going to the staff room is not a 'break' for any member of IT support staff (surely this is true in any school?) Instead ,come lunch time, it's door locked, blind down, headphones in and microwave on!

I've discovered that if i enable one of the codecs in the Movie Maker (2.1.4028) Tools>Options>Compatibility window i can get some of our awkward formats to work. But how can i deploy this change through the school?

I've got a particular room where the teacher's machine hangs at the CC3 login screen, before anyone gets a chance to type anything. - It happens with any machine (i've tested 2 of same hardware (non-RM) and a third of differing hardware (RM)) - It doesn't happen the first day, each time i've put a machine in, it works for that day and then upon starting up the next day the problem occurs - It happens regardless of the name of the machine, the second and following attempts at rebuilding i used different names for the machine in case it was a machine account issue. Any ideas? It strikes me as a network issue, but i don't know what would cause it and why only on that network point

Thanks for the offer i will take a look just in case but i think i've got it working. I used Process Monitor to see what was denied when logged on as a teacher, allowing read/write access to this folder seems to have sorted it: C:\documents and settings\All users\app data\ audodesk\adlm

I managed to get the package to install and work for a system admin but it doesn't for for students and staff, unless systemadmin has run it first. This would be fine, in fact i went round both classrooms and logged on to each machine and ran it as systemadmin, only to find that once the machines restart, it doesn't work anymore. any ideas?

My first sting was on the ankle, i was just in shorts and trainers but as you probably realise the ankle is fairly unprotected by a bee suit anyway. The second sting was on the shoulder through the bee suit material. I put my luck down to a couple of things - The general temperament of my bees, they are easy to work with. - the style of hive means minimal disruption during inspections. Only part of the colony is exposed at any one time.

Well i've only had them a couple of months, yes they're not as productive in terms of honey as a 'traditional' style hive, but they produce more wax, something i can use equally well, if not moreso for candle and soaps. We don't eat a lot of honey so i'll probably be giving it as gifts. My garden too has a path up the middle to off-road parking at the back, plus my workshop/shed is directly opposite the hive about 8' away. I use the garden as normal, we store our wheelie bins the other side of the hive about 1m away. I can sit literally in contact with the hive watching them while they carry on regardless. Only when a little agitated (for example if they're havign a bit too much attention from wasps/hornets, etc...) will they send out a guard to discourage me. At times the entrance (and surrounding air) can get quite busy but even so, they're doing their thing and don't care about me. Remember honeybees die if they sting, so it tends to be a last resort. I've only got 2 stings in the 2 months i've had them and each time it was my fault (once i had to shake some bees out of a feeder without a bee suit on and the second was while doing a little comb surgery to straighten things up inside)
