Not having any luck, i added a plist to the macbook group in WGM but when i log in to the macbook the touchpad prefs don't reflect those set in the plist. Not sure what you mean by users preferences folder, surely this only exists after the user is created? Looks like i might have to run a script to manually copy prefs in after i've created the users on each machine.

I'm trying to configure some macbooks we've bought for the art staff. First job is setting trackpad preferences (seemed a sensible/simple place to begin). I've found the plist and copied it off of the machine up to the server but how can i apply it to any user that i subsequently create? I'm using Deploystudio to push out images and do initial configuration. I can get it to prompt for a new user after the image is rolled out and i could copy down the plist afterwards but i can't specify the path because i won't know what the user is called until i roll out a particular machine.

i had major problems with this too, make sure the server address is the fqdn and any dashes are underscores

Figured it out. It was showing correctly in device manager, so i went back to explorer and manually typed b:\ into the address bar and hey presto, floppy drive!

problem is that i need to be able to create these build disks using rm systems as normal and occasionally tweak them. I can edit them on other machines (XP) but as i sit at my machine most of the time that's where i want to be able to do it.

I have a couple of netac bootable usb sticks that i use for RM build disks. Just installed win7 on my main machine this week and wanted to tinker with the contents of the build disks(as i do all the time on XP), plug it in and explorer shows nothing, plus i get no acknowledgement sounds. please tell me this isn't a feature that i can't circumvent! will make life awkward. If i set the sticks to normal they come up as memory sticks, but when set to floppy, i get nothing.

Thanks guys. I had a problem with another bit of software too so did some more general googling and it seems it's to do with the user's shell folders. i changed them in the registry to all be local and the installs worked fine. i've then changed them back to N:\ Awkward but i've exported a copy of each set of reg settings, so i can switch relatively easily.

i do now.... and it's still not working

Just installed Win7 on my main work machine. Added it to the domain. Tried to install office 2007, it fails with error 1237 Invalid drive (N:\) Which is my network home area. Any ideas?

just use some wahl wired clippers with no guard, works a treat. that's for when i'm lazy and don't use my straight razor.

I'm new to this. Didn't really matter how i did it, just needed to figure out how to achieve the end result. How would i go about adding my shares to the login items then?

I created the script and made it executable ( or tried and it didn't complain) but when i double click, it just opens in texteditor. any ideas?

Thankyou, i have their user area mapping using the default options but wanted to map some generic student/staff shared areas too.

right i've started looking into this, we use isa2006 to publish our portal and owa so looks like it might be a little more complicated that the instuctions you posted. I'll keep looking at it while i also investigate other avenues

I could look into it. How does the profile setup differ? Do i pre-configure the connection details and it just prompts them for logon details when they open it?

Currently our staff laptops are non-domain. When i've imaged one ready for a member of staff, they have to come in and i have to set up outlook with their exchange account details, i have to get them to put in their web proxy credentials (and tick 'remember') and i have to get them to put in their domain password as the password on the machine so that my scripts for mapping drives can authenticate with the server properly. What i want to know is, can i write/obtain a script that will present a text box and use the credentials to complete the above tasks? Or is that too much? Is there a better way? (i'm guessing someone's going to say put them on the domain)
