I'd be interested to hear the solution to this as it has also happened here, not just with Moodle but also our Joomla Intranet page although this seems to be an issue of users logging in from home for the most part. In our case it may have something to do with the fact that we virtualised and installed 2008 on all our servers and breaking something in the process but our web server was just P2V'd and still runs Server 2003.

We did a 9.5 mile walk yesterday in 2.5 hours - wife not amused

Correct. Also - when camping, there is no need to log tasks, you are not at work - relax

Once upon a time you could get wheels that fit on and enable you to move a TT on its end or side. No idea of the cost or even if you can do it with a Pulman, I'll have a look when I get a minute.
-
You should be able to pull a TT on your licence - it goes by weight, you can check on the dvla website once you know the weight of the TT.

A head of 2000 would cope with heavy showers but you may see some leakage after a prolonged outburst over 5 hours or so. I'm talking heavy rain here not the drizzly stuff. I had a tent with a head of 3000 and was camped about 10 miles from Boscastle during the flooding incident, in the main we stayed dry, just the odd drip around a seam and zip, a tent next to us with a head of 2000 was dripping all over the place. This was extreme weather I admit but it happens in this country, it's what makes camping fun isn't it?

When selecting the electric hookup don't go for the cheap ones on fleabay, most sites only have between 10 - 16 amp supply so one with a built in cut-off could save you from tripping half the campsite and reduce the risk of burning the tent down. On tents look for a hydrostatic head of 3000 which will keep you dry in most conditions.

True and like a lot of forums there are a few 'know it alls' that post regularly, but in general the info is useful once you sift out the rubbish posts I've not been out in the tent for a while as we tend to use the caravan more, especially in winter If the review is hidded or not posted then I'd probably go anyway

How to create an admin security nightmare
-
We went for the simple solution. Created accounts such as Exam1, Exam2 etc each locked down as appropriate for the assessment. All accounts can only save to a USB. All students log into the one account (e.g. Exam 1), save to a USB and the teachers collect the USBs in at the end.

Why would you need an engineer? The fuser unit just fits in pretty much the same as changing a cartridge and comes with instructions. As to whether to replace it or not then financially it makes sense to replace the fuser unit.

I was afraid that this was going to tempt the teacher bashers out of hiding. The fact is, going back to he original subject, that teachers are not to blame (pay negotiations aside) for TAs or other support staff being used to teach classes unaided by a qualified teacher being present. Nor is it the fault of HTs or SMT who are trying to continue to provide a service with a small budget. The problem is, as usual, the lack of funding from the government purse. Unless HTs can cover the cost of a full compliment of qualified teachers they are left with little choice but to use TAs. The fact that support staff are poorly represented etc makes it an easy fix for which the government both past and present are willing to turn a blind eye to because it suits them. Give Teachers a break - do you honestly think they like seeing a post that they are fully qualified and experienced to fill being filled by an unqualified TA just because they are cheaper to employ? Do you not think that TAs put in that position may resent being asked to do the job at a fraction of the cost of a Qualified Teacher? Until the financial loophole is closed then this is going to be a never ending argument.

I just typed a lengthy reply but it disappeared before I could post it . So a summary of a post that never was is; Head Teachers have a finite budget to work with. There are many many good teachers respected by Support Staff, students, parents and other teachers and then there are the bad teachers who do the bare minimum necessary. Unfortunately it is usually those bad teachers that have the loudest voice in the Unions. Until Support staff have the same level of representation as teaching staff then HTs will always take the easier route to solve a problem. Support Staff are cheaper and easier to replace than teachers and until the imbalance is addressed this will always be the case. So how do we resolve it? Pay Support Staff more? Sorry no money to do that. Reduce Teachers pay? Nope, sorry that would be unfair to those that do earn their pay and those 'Louder Voices' would bring the system down. Whatever the solution is, it's going to be a long and probably painful process but at the same time normal or improved services are to continue. Catch 22?
-
All good advice above but when presenting to SMT use a lot of key phrases such as Child Protection, Duty of Care etc as well as point out that the better the filter, the less the students can see and be distracted by therefore increasing learning time and reducing discipline cases that teaching staff have to deal with. Point out the possible cost savings of administration\man hours against the additional cost of SW.

[ms office - 2007] Disabling Spell Check via GPO
alan-d replied to jonathanhaddock's topic in Office Software
I should elaborate and say that we set up specific profiles that the students use and all work is saved onto a USB drive. That way we are not uninstalling and reinstalling software and the accounts can be used anywhere in the school. The teaching staff tell us what is to be made available and when. We enable the relavant account and give the teachers the login and password. As soon as the session is finished we disable the account. Just realised - going off topic slightly - sorry
