  1. First question is - Have you got an AUP in place that points out that illegal downloads are unacceptable and could lead to disciplinary action by the school, LEA or police?
  2. GLPI has a helpdesk feature together with it's asset management. Although it has to be said that the helpdesk is not as user friendly toward non technical staff.
  3. It would be helpful if you create a Job description for the new post, you will then find that the information for the proposal will come naturally as you justify points in the JD.
  4. This may be it - but check anyway as I'm not sure it's the exact model of your car Found it here Nissan Tow Cars
  5. Very true but my crystall ball is broken so I can only go by what information the OP has given. Of course he may want to tow a rally car in the future so he will need to take a test but he didn't say that may be the case.
  6. I think we have already established that. Just to clarify though the DVLA states As the OP states that the trailer with load should weigh no more than 500Kg then he should not need to take a trailer test.
  7. You are allowed to tow up to 100% of the kerbweight of your car as long as the total does not exceed 3500Kg without doing a further towing test. However the recommendation by caravan clubs and the like is 85% of the kerbweight of your car. You then have to consider the tow weight the manufacturers place on the car, the handbook should tell you this. From what you have said above you should be fine, the Nissan will tow OK for the short journeys you are planning. As for a diesel, I would only consider this if I were making long journeys on a regular basis as diesel cars don't really like short ones. Weight distribution on the trailer will also make a lot of difference, you should place heavy items over the trailer axles, too much toward the front or back will make towing very uncomfortable as well as being liable to take you into a ditch or worse.
  8. I forgot about Axis - thanks
  9. I think it does - I'll have a proper look - thanks. Any others?
  10. Looking for an idea of cost for a CCTV unit that also records sound. Rough Specs would be; For internal use Records over IP or own HD (preferably IP) In Colour With good quality sound PoE would be preferable Must be discreet when installed and when recording System must be expandable in the future if required. Not Wireless. Records in a format easily replayed on a PC without conversion software. The HT is looking into ways to observe teachers\classes during training excercises so it would not be on all the time. Anyone suggest a supplier or kit they have used which may be suitable? Thanks in advance
  11. 4 of us full time running 14 servers on 3 hosts + backup and DC Servers. 670 clients of which 390 are laptops, 60 printers and 41 IWB\projectors with approx 1200 users. (As well as cameras, visualisers and bits in between )
  12. From what you say above I think you should look seriously at changing passwords and go over who has access to what and why. It may not be a technician, it could be another member of staff or even an outsider who has somehow got hold of account details that give them access. Access via VPN should still be traceable if not by you then by your ISP (I assume it's the LEA). I think your first priority is to look at the security of your network before you accuse anyone of anything.
  13. See AttachedExample-TEACHERS CONTRACT.doc
  14. We had a flicker problem with a new Hitachi short throw projector, it turned out to be the power socket it was plugged into. Moved the plug to a different socket and it worked fine. It did take 2 new projectors and every cable and connection to be replaced before we discovered it though!
  15. We all sign the same AUP as the Staff. It contains the line It is part of our job to ensure the security and confidentiallity of the network and data, the problem is not what they see but what they do with the information they come across. The misuse of information then comes into the realms of disciplinary proceedings outside the AUP.
  16. Aahhhh Edugeeks first pitta-patter of geek feet and fingers across the keyboard. How sweet!
  17. We have now changed the way we do things See APEO posts. Basically our only involvment is to create duplicate accounts using their exam number as a login and set up an OU with the correct GPO to control access to the various options. The teaching staff do the rest by selecting the students names, start and finish times and tell the students to use the exam login. The staff have read only access to the folders. The initial setup may take a bit of effort, apeo can testify to that but the end result means that the staff can pick and choose to enable and disable the controlled assessment accounts as they wish without waiting for us to do it for them. Especially helpful if they have a student that was out of school during the assessment and needs to catch up.
  18. I once sent my technicians on a hunt around the school to find out why users were having problems logging into the wireless network. I was busy updating a server with updates etc. It was a Sophos and PCE server so should not have interupted anything, well until I remembered that Radius was installed on it! Ooops!!!
  19. I don't have any stats proving that a VLE improves education but another consideration is the cost of resources. Without a VLE how much more paper and consumables are used to reproduce teaching resources? The time spent creating paper resources is probably greater than the time it takes to create them within a VLE. We use Moodle hosted in-house so no subscription fees to worry about. It started as a trial to see if a VLE was a worthwile option and it has stuck. Some departments would not be without it and after 3 years or so even the technophobic elements are starting to embrace it.
  20. I totally agree, but we were asked to look at alternatives.
  21. At the moment most support staff sign in and out in a register held by the main office. This is supposed to be in the event of a fire etc. The SMT have finally decided that this isn't working as some support staff don't sign in and neither do teachers. We are looking for a system that would be simple, cost nothing and still allow staff to use any school entrance. It should not be seen as 'Big brother' watching, but give an accurate account of who is in the building at any given time in the event of an emergency. What do other schools do and how effective is it?
  22. An extract from our KB, you may be able to pick something out from that.
  23. No errors on our main feeds Moodle version - Moodle 1.9.9 (Build: 20100609)
  24. Probably the same link but works fine on our Moodle http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_uk_edition/education/rss.xml
  25. Do you have a link to that article? We have a few iphone users so could be useful in the future
