If there is no power in the cabin which is as I understand you original question this will not work. A long range AP such as the U6-LR might work but as @FragglePete said the issue is that the normal limit on Wireless range is not the AP but the user device which can "hear" the network but it cant "shout" loud enough to reply. Other options include dedicated mobile dongles which you will need to speak to a specialist supplier for I have used Simpliwifi before and they are very helpful or starlink if you have a clear view of the sky but electricity will be your issue. Alternatively you could look at device with built in mobile capability such as iPads or laptops with mobile modems, if you speak to a phone company they can do deals for data packages and data only SIMS which can be pooled by your devices. After a couple of years the costs for these mobile internet connections might be more than getting a electrical cable and fiber installed.

I have generally used Year of entry, Initial, Surname truncated to 10 chars and all spaces, hyphens et. stripped out, add a number for a collision so your example would be 23JSmith and 23JSmith1 Generally this works well and has only been an issue for me when we had 2 John Peter Smiths in a year neither of whom could remember their password, which prompted us to get students to write their usernames on the front of their diaries because staff struggled with the collision when doing password resets and gave them access to the wrong account. If given the choice I would use an admission number possibly prefixed with a year of entry this removes any collision issues and also removes complications when a student changes their name however I don't know how well this would work with some of the third party software and sites we use. This is harder to remember than your name but could be written/printed on a dairy id card etc.

From an operational POV I would love to leave a couple of weeks for patches to mature but I have to have all patches installed either 7 or 14 days after their release dependent on system for security. Which hasn't caused an issues since Print nightmare.

I am not a solicitor or have any formal training in law so I could be wrong however the reading I get from the ruling, is not that the training was at fault but it was delivered too long ago. The training had been delivered several years ago We accept that that training had covered harassment related to race. However, in all cases the training which had been delivered was several years before the events in question and was clearly stale. We do not accept that the respondent had taken all reasonable steps to avoid discrimination in the workplace for a reasonable step would have been to refresh that training. The training made clear what to do but it wasn't done The training had made plain to the employees what they should do if they heard unacceptable remarks and they all failed to follow that guidance. The training patently needed to be refreshed and it would have been a reasonable step to do so. I read these when I was a kid and kind of enjoyed them. I would recommend the Warlord Chronicles by Bernard Cornwall The Winter King on TV is excellent but the visuals are far better on paper. I loved my kindles I had several from the ones with Keyboards to a paperwhite if I was replacing mine today I would probably get an 11 but the paperwhite with the backlight looks nice however, I don't use them any more I just use the app my phone.

An employment tribunal is not a court of law and the rules are different, There was a case about 10 years ago when someone was reinstated because it was unreasonable to expect them to remember all the rules of the AUP after a couple of years. This is why you have to read KCSIE & etc. every year.

When I worked in Warwickshire we outsourced this to the LEA who where fantastic. They had a team of experts monitoring the logs all day, they would do an assessment of the level of concern then report using the schools protocols. Best thing I did at the school for safeguarding, they did it better than I could and allowed me to concentrate on the bits I am better at.

I have a daily driver account which is a normal staff account and an elevated account which has higher levels of access that I can use on client machine. I don't do any sort of fancy elevation of privilege's if I want to use the higher level of access I log on as this user, it does lack some elegance but it is simple and its much harder to leave my self elevated.

Bit of a side note but AUPs should be redistributed to staff at least once a year and more often for students otherwise it is unreasonable for you to assume they can remember the stipulations.

I try to keep my daily driver account the same as a normal staff account so I experience the same environment as my users, if I need more privilege's I can then log into a higher privileged account or onto a server. This has the added advantage of fitting the lowest privilege security paradigm.

I have worked in 10 schools over the last 22 years and I have used both fixed classroom desktops and staff laptops, personally I have found that staff find it easier to move between classrooms with fixed computers than to move a laptop between classrooms. @mavhc obviously has had a different experience. I believe the lesson we can take from this is that each school is different and you need to work with the staff to find the correct option for the school.

All good reasons for using a laptop the main reasons against are staff can't just plug in a USB C cable and they don't want to. I don't believe either option is correct it depends on you school and staff.

I have a Smoothwall S8 on one of my sites and it is not set up as I would like it, the academy is having a second broadband connection installed in the near future and I am looking to use this as an opportunity to get a Smoothwall expert in to do some reconfiguration. A proper lesson plan will account for this, with a non IT starter, links to the documents and the worksheets printed in advance, in fact a proper lesson plan should have a back up for if the IT is not available at all. There are good reasons for and against staff laptops teaching staff not preparing is not one.

When I worked at a Microsoft school I found the School Data Sync caused problems with courses which where not one year long such as KS4, KS5 and Carousel subjects, I never found a solution for this before leaving. I now work for a large MAT and the central Google Team manage this and I very happily don't get involved.

Good Morning One of my schools has just received the latest OFSTED guidance relating to Digital safeguarding, generally we are ok with our filtering and monitoring but the issue we have identified is our iPads. As they are single user devices we don't have a method to track who was using an iPad at a specific time and we are looking at two methods to resolve this: Force a sign on for the iPad Record the iPad user separately We use Securly as our MDM and this can force a sign on but we are concerned that as this is no the normal usage of an iPad students will not sign on and off. In the old day there would be a clipboard on the device trolley and students/staff would sign in and out all devices we are looking for a modern version of this, all our iPads and students have a bar code so we can scan them to speed up the process. Does any one have any experience with these solutions or a suggestion for any others please? Mike
