Hey! Could anyone recommend some sort of script or application that will enable me to generate a list of usernames which are pulled from active directory. I require an ability to extract both the first name and surname as well as the associated login name (possibly even password). The format we use would be much like the following example: Stephen Walden = 'stephenw' Your help would be much appreciated! Steve Holmfirth J I & N School

Does anyone have a list of the functions for generating eportal usernames in CMIS? One of the default templates looks something like this RemoveVowels(contact.Forename + contact.Surname) So if you're name was Arthur Brain it the username would be rthbrn I've worked out how to add a prefix but I'd like it to generate a random number after this at least four characters long.

I did a new sims and fms install on Windows Server 2008 R2. Everything went ok, e.g no errors. I now restored the sims database from a backup but I cannot log in. At get the error, invalid user name/password. Are username and passwords stored in the Master DB. How can I transfer them accross?

I recently set up iTALC on about 30 PCs, fresh install. I put the iTalc key as well as the install on a USB drive and went around to the PCs I and installed it. I moved the install folder over to the local disk, but left the key on the USB when it asked for it, I just told it to look on the USB drive. This has always worked in the past, and it seemed to work this time as well. I guess iTalc pulls a copy of the key off the USB drive when it asks for it? I'm not sure. Everything is working great now, I can remote control, I can view desktops, all that jazz. The only issue is that on the admin machine, all the usernames are displayed as my username. I checked the box where it says to display usernames, and they are all me. Should I not have used my log in to install the client machines? That has worked for me in the past. Has anyone else seen this before? I think I might have read something about messenger service needing to be started on the machines for the usernames to display. Thats not going to happen, but it sounded fishy. Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi everyone, We're kicking off a project to review our IT naming conventions, so I wanted to find out what convention other institutions use for their student's AD usernames. Currently we use the format: [First three letters of first name][First three letters of surname][Year of entry (YY)]. For example, John Smith enrolled in 2023 so his username is JohSmi23. If we also have a student "Johnny Smidt" enrolling in 2023, his username would then be JohSmi231. We've been using this format for quite a few years but due to the way we're joining the names together we're sometimes ending up with usernames that we're having to change. Imagine, for example, Fatima Cowell. I know some institutions use their unique student IDs for student logon names but ours are 12 characters long so I don't want to use that. Very interested to hear your thoughts and any suggestions. Best regards, Edan
