Do you have an IP helper on your core switch, this always catches me out when i spin up a new DHCP server.

I have been through the document @djm968 linked and it looks really helpful until you try to implement any restrictions. I can block sending but that is not really helpful, I can force encryption but it won't help if is being sent to the wrong person and I cant even trigger on non encrypted attachments. Does anyone else have any ideas I am pulling my hair out. Mike

I dont think your wrong @Meldrew but I was told we have to have a look so I am having a look, we also have just published a list of Do's and don'ts Number one is do I need to send this info and number two is reread the document check the recipient and the attachment. I think this will be more useful but the boss disagrees. Thanks @djm968

Hi We had had a number of staff send the wrong attachment with an email. I have been asked if there is any way to have a pop appear as you press send with the name of the attachment and a message such as are you sure you want to send this attachment? Yes/No Does anybody know of such a package or have another method of helping to prevent staff attaching the wrong file? Mike

After years of aggravation about class lists we started using https://classlist.com/ and it all became the PTAs problem.

I used LAN3 and Cable dynamics both where very good

I used to use a hand full of Sony readers which where updated to Kindles with free eBooks and Calibre this worked well but was limited, I have not found anyone who loans books to eReaders. We also had lots of pupils own eReaders which they used instead of library books for personal reading which works very well.

Dont worry about switching at the moment you dont need to have all your ports patched in fact is can be a bad idea to have unused ports patched

It's probably going to be cheaper to get new runs rather than move the old one as labour is most of the cost of installation.

You have to mark the pupils as in or out based on the registration period, this is why there are different marks for present, late and late after registration closed. THis is just like the MOT test on your car, when the mechanic signs the form it is roadworthy but if you disable the lights as you leave the garage it isn't any more but it still has a years MOT. As I said above the register and the fire list are not compatible. Mike

Hi A question that came up in the staff room today, can we send confidential info or passwords in the post? According to the Royal mails web site they delivered 1.2 billion letters last year and lost 500 000 which is 0.04% the penalty for stealing from the mail is 3 - 5 years for a normal person and 3 - 14 for an employee of the mail, which is as serious as the penalties for hacking email and I would assume it is easier to prosecute. We also argued what was easier to intercept snail mail or e mail, and could not come up with a consensus. Mike

If you are buying new ones try to avoid the ones with the self opening door, the motor is easy to break and then you will have all sorts of fun trying to make it work.

There is an inherent conflict between the attendance register and a register of who is in the building at any time. When the attendance system became solidified in its current form it was assumed that a pupil would be in school on a single site for a whole session, any child leaving the site during the day would be a one off and the teacher or administrator would know who was out. This has allowed schools to do the half day closing trick by having pm registration and then closing the school whilst keeping their figures looking good. I don't know if this is a weakness but it is a hack. This however means that the attendance register cannot be used to prove the attendance of any pupil at any time other than when they are registered much like an MOT only proves your car is road worthy when the tester signs the certificate. In order to know the location of the pupils a signing in and out process must be in place which is complemented by individual teachers taking a register each lesson to prove the child is not only in school but in the correct location. If you want to massage your figures and know who is in school your best course of action is to make the pm register compulsory and then sign the pupils out of school afterwards. Mike

Thanks, it was a fine grained policy in ADAC, I had found the settings in the default domain policy but they did not match and after reading your post I checked the ADAC and found the setting. However, a method of searching all the GPOs to find where one setting is being configured would be useful when trouble shooting a GPO issue rather than running GPResult and then checking the policies to see what has been set, as it can get a bit confusing especially if like me you have just taken over a new network and the GPO labels are not always totally clear to a new admin, I know I have not always understood my own naming convention six moths after setting up the GPO. Hi We have lots of GPOs linked to various OUs and I want to find out where password complexity is being set. Is there a way of searching all the GPOs to see which ones are changing a particular setting or do I have to go through each GPO individually? Thanks Mike
