  1. I have used Gopros for sports videos and head mounted is very difficult to watch because of all the motion a police style body cam is much better for the viewer.
  2. I am telling staff to set pupils to attendees and use the "Allow attendees to unmute" option to stop pupils from unmuting this stops anyone from making a noise without the teachers permission.
  3. Does anyone have a good alternative to Groupcall for messenger and Xporter?
  4. I am speaking to them now, they assure me that there is a statement on the site the link here https://www.parentpay.com/schools/ then scroll all the way to the bottom and it is in the news is not showing it to me. I am also not receiving emails that they are claiming to have sent me. Edit I have just received the emails, their statement. A statement from our IT Security team December 22, 2020 As is being widely reported, SolarWinds recently suffered a security breach, potentially impacting tens of thousands of SolarWinds customers worldwide. As a user of SolarWinds, as soon as ParentPay were made aware of the breach we isolated our systems and launched an immediate and thorough investigation. We have found no evidence to suggest ParentPay customer or partner data has been breached or compromised in any way. Having analysed our detailed historic logs (available from throughout the full timeframe), and conducted technical forensics analysis, we have found no indications that those responsible sought to further access ParentPay systems. All of our SolarWinds services and systems have been shut down and permanently removed from the ParentPay network. Safeguarding customer and partner data is our top priority and all such information is given the utmost protection. We remain confident that such data was safely isolated from this incident. Our dedicated IT security team continues to monitor the situation and are sharing any supporting information with the wider security community.
  5. Well yes but they can blame any problems on you and continue to monetize their content.
  6. great video but why is there a ninja following then at 1:10?
  7. Hi we are looking at using tablets for teaching, the current Qomo QIT30 RF are working great but I am having problems sourcing any more. Does anyone have a supplier for these or a replacement suggestion. Mike
  8. We moved from a straight ban to making removable media, read only and preventing execution. This resolved 99% of all the issues, we still have a process for allowing writing to USB when required but this is generally Exam work for the boards and staff leaving and wanting to take "their" materials with them, which has a special process with the DPO and myself to ensure it is their materials and not just a hoovering of data and copyrighted materials.
  9. Two Hosts running 30 VMs most are singe purpose but we have two for all the little server things.
  10. *Should not* I must proof read my posts
  11. It should be an issue on a flat network because the DHCP request is a broadcast, if you have VLANS you will need to add the servers address to the DHCP helper on the core switch.
  12. I have five tickets open going back five weeks with groupcall about an xporter error. I have had no response except the automatic response, I tried ringing support but they are all working from home and not available for phone calls, which to be honest was not a good look for a Major business in April let alone November. I have tried ringing but there is no answer anywhere on the phone tree so I have PMed @AdeB and tweeted them today.
  13. I had to go through this with Microsoft because of an inappropriate recording. They can do it but it is a back end server fix and takes quite a lot of time and effort If you remove the users from the meeting they can see the links to the video but can not access it via the meeting chat. However if you want it deleted do not remove all the users as Microsoft need the link to find the Video.
  14. I have looked at Kindles a couple of time and there is no good way to manage them, I think Capita have plug in for their library systems which does ebook loans on android and iPads but then you are creating new problems for your self. I have seen them given/loaned to pupils but the family were responsible for the amazon account.
  15. The price was set before I arrived but the cost of the materials is not the full cost of replacing the card.
  16. We use Mifare cards for Door, Photocopying and cashless catering for 1500 pupils and replace about 10 a week at a cost of £5. We issue a lanyard at the beginning of year 7 which is colour coded for the year of entry but as no one uses them we don't replace them unless specifically asked for them. We always issue a holder because the pupils used to have a tendency to decide they did not like the picture and scrub it off but with a holder they can turn it round instead, this has reduced the new card requests by about 2 or 3 a week.
  17. You can do an anonymous survey in Microsoft forms limited to internal users and the results can be restricted to one user if you have Office 365
  18. I only have two students doing this exam and only one at a time so it was very simple here, I had already installed the extension by following the instruction here and other than the candidate taking ages to check all here pencils where sharp. it was as painless as using Examwritepad
  19. I have not resolved this, obviously it has been broken for almost a year and has not caused any noticeable errors so I am going slow as I don't want to break the sysvol any more than it is. The guidance for using the DFS management snap in ius from the original error message in Dcdiag Group Policy problems. An error event occurred. EventID: 0xC0000FAC Time Generated: 10/28/2020 13:05:40 Event String: The DFS Replication service stopped replication on the folder with the following local path: C:\Windows\SYSVOL\domain. This server has been disconnected from other partners for 260 days, which is longer than the time allowed by the MaxOfflineTimeInDays parameter (60). DFS Replication considers the data in this folder to be stale, and this server will not replicate the folder until this error is corrected. To resume replication of this folder, use the DFS Management snap-in to remove this server from the replication group, and then add it back to the group. This causes the server to perform an initial synchronization task, which replaces the stale data with fresh data from other members of the replication group. The DFS Management snap in shows the Sysvol but other than running reports does not give you any options. Does anyone have any ideas I have seen some discussion of running non authoritative sync but I think most of this advice is aimed at DFS issues and not Sysvol issues.
  20. The point of Law is not copyright, that is in favour of schools using Films for T&L or using a Filmbank License to show films for entertainment. Disney and other streaming providers do not provide accounts for schools so you can not access the film without violating to TOS. It is the same as being barred from a Cinema, you can see the film legally but you can't enter the building.
  21. we don't recommend a specific make and model for several reasons but we do publish a recommended spec While we cannot recommend any specific IT equipment, we do have a quick checklist for you to use when purchasing a laptop for school use. At a minimum you should be looking for:  i3 or Ryzen 3 processor  8GB or more of RAM  250GB SSD disk  14 inch full 1920 x 1080  Separate full sized mouse  Good quality laptop bag or sleeve
  22. It is a very difficult and complex area of copyright and contract law. As streaming is a license to watch and not ownership of a product the streaming service may not have the rights to license you a copy of the film to use anything other than personal use. There are some old threads on here about Netflix where people had got them to say that not allowed to let schools, prisons, oil rigs etc use their service. As this is the house of Mouse and they own their own rights for the content they may be a commercial offering down the road. This is not an area of law covered by the schools exceptions to copyright because they are not stopping you showing the content they are stopping you from accessing their service.
  23. Hi In February I turned off Two DCs meaning to decommission them and with one thing and another I forgot and they tombstoned, I have manually removed these and cleaned up the metadata but I am still having problems with the Sysvol not syncing the error I am getting is: The DFS Replication service stopped replication on the folder with the following local path: C:\Windows\SYSVOL\domain. This server has been disconnected from other partners for 260 days, which is longer than the time allowed by the MaxOfflineTimeInDays parameter (60). DFS Replication considers the data in this folder to be stale, and this server will not replicate the folder until this error is corrected. The guidance to resolve this is to remove the server from the replication group using the DFS Management snap in and then add it back to force a resync however I have never done this before and am hoping for some guidance. I can't see a method of removing the server from the group the only option is to remove the group from display and there is a message telling me that some options are not available because this is a Sysvol replication group. Am I going about this correctly or is there a better way to resolve this? Thanks Mike
  24. I don't think I have ever had a guest be able to trust the MITM certificate without help, the captive portal is difficult for most of them. I have produced guides, videos and talked them through the process but just finding the correct instructions for their device seems to defeat most people. To be fair the decision tree is fairly difficult especially for android phones.
  25. I have just had my order of these changed to HP 255 G7 – AMD - A4 9125 / 15.6" - 2.3 GHz - 4 GB RAM - 128 GB SSD I would like to think they are listening to the problems but they probably just ran out.
