I've been imaging our new computers. 15 imaged fine. Now I'm trying to image number 16 and it keeps on failing halfway through saying the "Connection Reset By Server". This computer is exactly the same as the others. I thought perhaps it was a one off so tried again and the exact same thing happened. I tried to reghost one of the original 15 we did and again... "Connection Reset By Server". I thought maybe the image was bad so tried to create another one from our template workstation and it gets ahlfway through before giving a "Connection Timed Out Error". I was wondering if anyone else has ever encountered anything like this before and how they resolved it. I can't think of any difference whatsoever since we imaged the original 15 and now out of nowhere it's stopped working!!!

Very possible. I know the boss has been completely rewriting out GPs this holiday but he's off for a week now and not back until Wednesday. One day before the kids return!!! Basically I didn't want to image 80 machines only to realise I screwed something as basic as the proxy settings up and then rush to get them all done again the day before the kids come back! If the proxy settings can be pushed out via GP then I'll let him sort it out when he returns as I've not much experience in that side of things and I don't want to mess up whatever work he's already started!!!

Hi all, Hae created a new image for some new computers we've bought in. I've set the Proxy settings for the Administrator however when new domain users log onto the new computers they don't get any proxy settings. In the past all we've done is changed the Proxy settings for the Administrator and they've applied to all users who log onto workstations built with this image. But not this time for some reason. Can anyone suggest anything at all?

We haven't yet. We still have ranger on our current machines. For the new 80 computers we're not using it though. The fun of removing ranger will probably start over half term.

Interesting... there is no "default user" folder. I'll see what happens if I create it.

Hi guys, Looking for some advice \ help on creating the perfect Start Menu for Student Workstations. I'm creating a new image for 80 new computers we've built. Obviously when the students log in I only want them to see the relevant programs and folders in their Start Menu. I appreciate certain things like Control Panel \ Command Prompt etc are handled via Group Policies but we seem to have various other icons appearing under programs that we don't want and I'm not sure how to stop them appearing. The main culprits are Outlook Express, Windows Explorer, Remote Assistance, System Tools, Accessability as well as a few extras in the Accessories folder. We used to use a program called Ranger (set up before I started) that handled all our StartMenus but now we're moving to using Group Policies. Anyone have any idea how to stop these few programs showing in the start menu. They aren't present in the "All Users" profile and I'm not sure where else to look to stop them coming up. Toshiba Satelite Pro S500 If you're talking about the current method of using RIS to deploy a dos ghost image then the issue isn't with the driver this time but the fact that the Keyboard \ Mouse don't work within Ghost even though the KB works with DOS. Took the problem to Symantic who stated that it's not uncommon for newer laptops to not work within Ghost using the DOS Boot Disk and that we should be moving to Win PE instead and using Ghost32. I don't really want to discuss the old system though as I've spent ages searching for a solution, and nothing works. So I've created the PE image. Ghost works fine, keyboard and mouse works fine however it's not getting an IP from the server and instead the IP in ghost comes up as 127.0.0.0 instead of one it's supposed to get from DHCP.

Nah don't really want to go making any wholesale changes to our current setup. All the tutorials state you just copy the drivers in but it's not working at the moment. Unless I'm using the wrong drivers...

Hi guys, We normally use RIS and GHOST (8.2) to image our laptops here but with newer laptops we find that more and more of them are having issues because DOS drivers aren't always available. I've decided to test using Windows PE so we can use GHOST32. I've set up the PE image and it boots fine from CD but GHOST can't connect to our GHOST CAST server because the PE image can't find the network or get an IP address. It just has the default 127.0.0.0. Ultimately once I've got this sorted I want to deploy the PE image via RIS so there is no need for boot CDs but I want to make sure the image is working correctly before I move to that stage. Does anyone know how to get the network card drivers added to the PE image and how to configure the image so it will get an IP address when it starts up. Hope you can help and thanks in advance.

Hi guys, We've decided we want a "School Calender" in outlook. As it stands one of our Admin girls has created a calender in her outlook and wants to share this with all staff. This doesn't seem like the best way to me. My opinion was it would be better to create a generic mail account called "calender" or something then just let whoever needs to edit it have the correct permissions. That way there is no fiddling about moving calenders when people leave. What do you think? Also is there a way to automatically have users have access to a "school calender" I couldn't see any options on ExchangeManagementConsole to do this? Just looking for opions, experiences really on best way to procede.

Hi guys, Hoping you'll be able to help me out with this one. Exchange 2007 on Windows Server 2008. This error is unique to one individual user. We have a print solution here with several large photocopier \ scanning devices. Users are able to scan from the devices and the image is sent to the user via e-mail. This works for everyone but one user... The print solution software logs state that the image is scanned and sent via e-mail to the user. The exchange logs show the e-mail being sent to the user and it being delivered sucesfully. The problem is... it never shows up in Outlook. Now the strange thing is if you scan the item and check the users inbox using OWA then the e-mail is sitting there all pretty in her inbox and ready to be viewed but the second you log into Outlook Proper the message disappears. I've tried using a different PC she hasn't used before and logged in as her for the first time but the issue still stands. This is the only person this happens to. This is the only e-mail message for this user that behaves in this way. Strangely she did get the e-mail through once. And it happened that this one time the file was extremely small. < 100k. So I don't know if that's indicitive of the problem or if it was a once off fluke. Definately seems to be an outlook \ exchange issue but I'm stumped... Suggestions? Sorry for the long message but best to provide you guys with all the info from the outset instead of drip feeding it to you over the next 20 posts...

Thanks for the links. Some of those will be definately be useful for me at home where I'm running Ubunto. Problem is all our PCs here are WinXP. Always lots of variety with Linux on the Open Source front just a pain you don't get the same choice with XP.

Hi guys, Was wondering if any of you knew of any decent Free \ Open source video editing software out there? We have a day coming up where we want kids to try and create videos on various subjects but seeing as it's only "one day" don't really feel the need to go out and purchase any software specifically for it. Any suggestions? Windows Movie Maker isn't installed on these machines and well... past experience with it has been less than positive... so looking to use something else if possible.

I use Lynda.com for all my training for things like cs4, drupal etc but wondered if anyone knew of any good video tutorial sites lke lynda.com for Windows Server \ Echange etc.

So far I've seen Kalidos and LP+ which are both based on Sharepoint however while we are keen on using sharepoint neither of these two VLEs really ticked all the boxes for us. Are there any other prominent Sharepoint based VLEs out there that might have crept under our radar?

The fact it's internal is one of the things that makes frog less attractive for me, not more. Especially if you're going the root of getting a cluster set up and are going to have 3 or 4 potentially primary schools using it at the same time. I also invisage people using the VLE more from home than at school which would make a hosted solution better.

Do you know where I can actually download Moodle 2.0 from?
