  1. That is... until teachers start coming in voluntarily at weekends and putting pay to that!
  2. Thanks guys. To be honest I still havent had a definite answer. Phil - I did ring the service desk as you suggested and asked if I could speak with someone, but no one ever got back to me. If we do get a new DfE number, how is this changed in SIMS? As I always thought the DfE number was tied to the database? Looking at it the field is greyed out too...
  3. Hi, Like many schools, our school has jumped on the Academy band wagon, and hope to have converted by January 2011. We already have arrangements for replacement for FMS which is "Academy friendly", however what I am worried about now is our SIMS database.. I have read that Academy's "must" have a new SIMS instance and cannot transfer data from the school to the academy DB. Under normal circumstances, this would be fine - set up a new SIMS db, get hired help in to manually enter stuff that couldnt be carried over. Fair enough - but what about those who use things like SIMS Learning Gateway? (And therefore Active Directory Provisioning?) I presume we will need to re-provision all 3000 accounts (including staff + students!)
  4. Welcome to the forum. Do you have a default printer setup on the workstation your trying to setup?
  5. Yes yes, you may scoff. Just wondering if anyone has come across this yet. Got an iPad on trial and when we go into attendance registers on SLG2, it's not letting me update the marks. Ie I can put the cursor in the box but it doesnt allow me to update the mark thats already in there. It does this if preserve marks is on or off. I have tried a number of other free browsers from the app store, although these all appear to be based on firefox and behave the same way IOS is 3.2 Seems OK on Safari on our normal Macs. Cheers
  6. Should be getting this tomorrows anyone tried the multiplayer yet? Any good?
  7. If you're not too arsed you could always try webuyanycar.com I think in general as long as your car isn't doing anything like the car in Chris_in_Notts signature you should be OK.
  8. BECTA was good lets be honest, but what benefit was there if there was no large scale uptake (read: mandatory) of their frameworks by LEAs etc
  9. Sometimes reason 0/local SIMS logon only is also caused by the SQL server browser agent not running (disabled by default on SQL2008)
  10. Phil - any particular reason why Capita have no plans to support SIMS on 2008R2?
  11. I see this all the time, however it doesn't stop there. A lot of primaries also buy into server support for their admin/SIMS server from Capita and they are charging schools over the odds for the hardware they supply, eg they charged one school £7.5k for a "mediocre" Dell server which you could probably have got hold of for £4/5k online). And yep - they put WS2003 32bit on there So no, I do not accept that Primary's are short of money at all, merely the money isn't being used effectively. in the case of that school, the £1.5k they could have saved in procuring that server properly, they could have migrated to 64bit at the same time for nothing.
  12. If they have money to burn by being so inefficient as to have a server on every site just for SIMS then I'm sure they can afford the changeover to 64bit.
  13. Thanks, Some silly sod left FMS open over the clock change weekend Going into P7, open any staff contract, reselect their existing pay scale, save, then go into FMS and do salary projection fixed this one.
  14. Why..? 2008R2 is 64bit only - long long overdue in my opinion.
  15. Got in this morning to be greeted by the following screen when logging onto FMS Anyone ever seen this before? FMS/SIMS certainly hasn't been restored at any pointI dot want to start restoring FMS back to any point or "bringing it in line" because I don't know what work the finance staff have done to it! Something to do with the clocks going forward maybe??
  16. And let it get swept under the carpet? No.
  17. Got to love this comment from that article: Someone off here!?
  18. Sounds like the CD may not have been burnt properly or they have given you the wrong licence file Search the CD for a "2ddes.lic" file and ensure this replaces the one in "C:\Program Files\TechSoft Design Tools\2D Design V2"
  19. Unfortunately using whitelists/radius etc will not work. There is something very wrong with Apple's implementation of wireless which (not intentionally?) causes a denial of service to certain vendors access points when they try to connect, which also explains why your teacher laptops are being disconnected when these ipods/phones connect. Your access point is spazzing out.
  20. Must admit it could be likely some sort of traffic/characterstic specific to your network. What kind of stuff do you have running on there? Are you running STP anywhere? We have several on site that dont appear to be suceptible to this - how close to Manchester are you? It would be interesting to see if any of our "known good" 2055's behave on your network!!
  21. Okai. Well, I've loaded the latest universal PS driver on a small sample of printers on our print server. Bingo, the problem appears to have been sorted. However the problem I am having now is the speed of print jobs!! It is taking around 30 seconds for the job to actually spool up and hit the printer - small jobs, should print pretty much as soon as you hit print, and once it starts printing, the paper is so slow to move through the printer (eg the rollers seem to run at about half speed and the paper is very slow to come out of the output bin) So to print it is taking anything upto 1 or 2 minutes per page! As soon as I load the PCL drivers all is fine, except for the black boxes Anyone any idea why the PS driver may be causing this speed problem? I havent tried the B&W printers yet but this is ocurring on all our HP 2025N's
  22. Hi All, I'm having a problem with some printers on site, mainly HP 2015n's We are using the latest universal print driver (previously upgraded from older version to see if it causes a problem). Print server is 2003 R2 standard 64bit, but we are sharing out 32bit and x64 drivers for clients. When some people print a document, the text will print off OK but the images just come out as black squares! Clients are a mix of Vista and 7, all 32bit I can remove the printer off the client and reboot to let it re-deploy and it will work OK for a few days, until it starts printing the black squares again. Anyone ever had this or got any ideas what could be causing it? Driving me up the wall now! Thanks
  23. I've found the first time it runs on a PC it does indeed fail to find the licence server, but it works ok subsequently. Not ideal, but meh..
  24. this will work - but what happens when your LEA updates SIMS? How do you make sure your local SIMS version is at the right level as your LEA SIMS sql db?
  25. I thought I cracked this for 2009, however it seems the installer doesnt copy certain files (wtf - some installer). It's the same for manually installing it, I had to make a little script to copy all these files. We have 100's of pieces of software, some of which is just shocking, they all deploy except the autodesk stuff. Unfortunately for us it's a manual install after every imaging
