We are a primary school, and having laptops give us nothing but trouble, luckily they are now 4 years old, and as everyone has said above, there are now totally wrecked and/or battery life is poor. So the outcome is now, we are expanding the computer suite to fit an entire class so we can get rid of the laptops. A mobile classroom is great if you have the money to maintain it, but i cant see how they can be cost effective, broken keyboards, screens, betteries, much easier and cheaper for a computer suite that could last 4-5 years, and even longer if you really needed it too. We also have cc4 here, and as i said before the laptops being 4 years old, boot times are awful, 15-20 mins from cold boot to actually using them. I wont be sad to see the back of them, and i dont know about anyone else, but the "mobile" trolly is the size and weight of a small car, and its never moved, would be nice to see a reply from someone who actually moves there mobile trolly, as im pretty sure most dont (:

Hi, My head has just seen something he liked on another schools website, and know he'd like if on our site. Basicly, it was done in flash, just one webpage, but contained a flashbook, and you simply clicked on the pages behind to turn the page over, to the next page, and so on. I just wondered, if anyone knew of a software this was easy to create in, or already made as a template, or even a site where i could do it on and download. Would prefer being able to edit myself with software over using a web service. Any help would be apprecicated Regards

Sorry to jump in but you might find this useful to (: Is there a way to force f11 mode, so once loaded, someone couldnt press f11 then go whatever they like on the machine??

Yeah i tried manually installing the realtek hd audio driver, couldn get it to work on another note the realtek downloads page is the worst ive ever seen!!

Installed 32bit edition of windows 7 and sound is now working lovely, just so happens that the only driver not to work in 64bit was the audio driver, which as luck has it, as this are for SEN students, audio just happened to be very important, always the way. But sorted now

We've had them a couple of months but they were 2009 stock, so this might be the problem, going to test with a 32bit edition anyway now. Cheers for that Just tried that with no sucess, thanks for your input mate, very much apprecaited!

Yeah, this is why im so stuck, device is installed and shows as working fine, even play music and the little mixer bobs up and down to show its picking up a noise

Got the 64bit version installed, which is what sorted the wireless out

Yeah removed and reinstalled it a couple of times no, both from using drivers from mac install disc and also letting windows update install it, still same problem. boot it in mac and sound works pefectly

Right, seem to have managed to get the wireless driver installed and working, but now only to find that the audio driver is installed and appears to be working, and device manager also reports no problems with it, yet there is now sound coming from the mac, ive checked every mute setting there could be with no sucess, the settings are set to full volume!! any help on this would be greatly appreciated and stop me from tearing all my hair out (: Edited: Definitley not a faulty mac, as when booted into mac sound works fine

Hi, Recently just got in the mac business, and enjoying my new macbooks very much, but for obvious reasons, windows needs to go on, installed through bootcomp perfectly, only one problem now, all the drivers installed okay expect for the wireless, so i googled and found out what wireless card is built in and downloaded the drivers for it, but still no wireless in device manager!! After reading more, it looks like many people are having the same problem which wont be fixed until december when windows 7 is offically supported. Just wondered if anyone had managed to get windows 7 and wireless working on a mac Thanks!

Hi, Ive got some macbooks that ive set up, we have just a windows domain, so i have just set these up to see the folder shares but once clicked users have to auth with their windows credentials. Seems to be working okay, not sure if theres another way without having a mac server with ad intregrated. Also ive set what appls and folders i want shown on the dock. The macs will automatically boot into a set username, macbook 1, macbook 2 etc. The account type is managed, so now installing of software etc can happen. All i want to do now, is lockdown the dock and desktop so folder shares etc cannot be deleted by the person logged on as apple macbook 1, 2 and so on. Is there a away to do this, or will i just have to hope the students dont delete everything? Your help much appreciated as always

right so heres the situation, we have just ordered out first class set of mac books, but with myself having very little experience of apple mac, im in at the deep end. We dont have a mac server although this may change depending on how sucessful this is. I need to be able to setup one just how i want and image the rest, but coming from a complete windows background, i have no idea of software to use and how to go about it on mac. Once i got the mac side setup we will be making them dual boot with windows, and ive read on here you need a seperate image for that which is fine, as ill use something like ghost for that. just need to know what the hell im doing with these macs first Thanks for your help

I am unable to go directly into the projector as its about 40ft up, so im gonna rule out doing that on the last day, i have replaced the splitter but the problem is still there, just about to give the guys who installed it a call and see what they say, will keep you posted for those with the same issue

Hi, In the hall we have had a lovely setup installed a few months ago, but since this morning, the projector, which is only a few months old also, is projecting the screen with stripey marks. I have replaced cabling and vga splitter, but with no sucess, have never seen this problem before, so am wondering whether its simply the lamp? but as seeing as its only a few months old we'd be quite unlucky for it to be going already? The projector is sanyo btw if this is a usual problem with that make? Thanks

Go in with your current job description, and then a list of duties you actually do, say that over two years you must of saved the school a tidy amount by them not having a network manager. surely cant hurt to just ask (:

The setup we have here, is each classroom, has a cheap £100-150 mono-laser/colour inkjet printer, trying to get everyone one mono laser per classroom, and then it the computer suites we have some oki mono and colour printers for students to print on, we have 2 suites so theres another 4 printers, and staff can do all their bulk printing such as worksheets etc to the 2 networked colour photocopiers, because most of our printing is done on managed photocopiers, its more then halfed out print costs!
