Also Bedfordshire, 0 problems on our backup line with Eclipse, lots of problems on our line with SB. We used to be with the LA in Bedford BC and it was so so bad in terms of support, connection, response times etc. E2BN was just one of many issues we had.

I'd give them some slack if the first two times I complained through their official process SOMEONE replied to me. It took three attempts over a month to get any response, and it ended up being from David on this forum. I will say their Technical desk on the phone/e-mail are top notch, they always pick up quickly and sort out what I'm after whilst still on the line (firewall changes etc), so I can't fault them for that. It's just the connection that seems to lack. It looks like it's been fairly good the past couple of weeks for us though. I'd be interested to know what's coming soon™

You can hide other users' folders by enabling Access Based Enumeration on your folder share. This hides any folders that the user doesn't have read permissions on.

I know it's not exactly what you asked for, but are you using HP switches? A lot of them got updates recently that pulled features like the Bonjour gateway across from the Aruba line up, so you may be able to do it on the switch for the time cost of a firmware update

Is your Draytek a modem or a router? If it's a router it's a real possibility that if it's authenticated via PPPoE already, your ISP will only allow one session. I'd have thought the Openreach modem would have sufficed to provide a connection to the Palo Alto though? We use the OR modem with our Sophos UTM (using PPPoE) fine.

Didn't see any down time this morning, but it was definitely slow. Looking at our latency graphs things jumped from 10-20ms average up to 300ms odd for nearly an hour so something definitely up. No changes on our internal latency and it was across the board on external sites so it's definitely on SB's side.

Theoretically drones can get very accurate with their location with the amount of data that's fed to them nowadays (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, barometers, gyroscopes etc). I believe even the DJI Phantom series can get to around 2.5 meters of location accuracy. It also looks like the Amazon drone looks for the Amazon pad to land on? So even more accurate I would guess.

For the sake of £25, cPanel and WHM are well worth it

The DNS servers on each DC should have an upstream resolver to Google/your ISP/whatever to avoid long queries to the DNS root servers. EDIT: Sorry, should be using the IP addres, NOT loopback. It's commonly debated, but just don't use loopback in the primary field.

AFAIK Server 2016 follows the same release cycle as either LTSB or CBB depending on what edition you install. Just as an aside to all this, I've had smokeping running for a few days now monitoring our connection at various points. May be worth others doing the same? I'm using cURL to do HTTP checks through Lightspeed and standard ping for other sites so we get some idea of what's going wrong all the way from the SB provided CPE, through to their NTE and out onto the Internet.

These are the SLAs that I was just given by SB. So since the FortiGate and the Lightspeed are separately SLA'd, we should have had 99.98% uptime.

Where are you trying to ping the VLANs from? Can you ping the IP of the VLAN that device is on?

I asked twice if it was possible to skip Lightspeed and move us over to Fortigate (before the FG issues) and had no answer. Not sure on avoiding both.

Precisely this - each time there's been an issue there has been connectivity into SB but no further, so the lines are fine. Coincidentally we've had 0 downtime with our backup FTTC from Eclipse/KCOM. Been searching and searching for a copy of our contract but have yet to find it - have e-mailed SB for a signed copy of it. I don't actually remember if we did sign anything to be honest!

How many devices do you have? In my situation I could carefully carve those up and get away with it but a larger school couldn't. Maybe use the /24 for your domain network and then carve the /23 up for your CCTV etc if there's enough addresses to go around. Your other option is to request more from your ISP.

Does your ISP dictate to you what IP addresses you can use? If you're planning on using your switch for inter-VLAN routing then your switch becomes the default gateway for all your network devices, and your Internet router becomes the default gateway for your L3 switch. Unless you have a funky setup and your ISP dictates your internal address ranges (such as SchoolsBroadband's cloud filtering) then it's of no concern what ranges you use internally. From what you said in your post, you're going about it the right way. Different VLANs for different purposes with different subnets. Make sure you use ACLs on your L3 switch to stop people from accessing your CCTV network for example, too.

So you're saying I shouldn't kick up a fuss for not getting the service we rightfully paid for? We were sold 99.9% uptime (or whatever the heck it is) and we haven't been given that. Would you be happy if you bought 8GB RAM but only received 6GB? You'd be pretty annoyed. Now magnify this to happening 4, 5, or even 6 times over the last few months, to multiple people. I won't mention that the only person to actually talk to me has been David. Neither Carol nor our account manager got back to any e-mails I sent to them. Damn right I'm gonna moan, I recommended we move away from our LA to SchoolsBroadband and within 6 months of switching we've had more downtime than we had over 3 years. Now my management are asking questions and I look like the idiot for recommending we go for SB. Agreed.

Hi Guys, Has anyone got any recommendations for MDMs that support Managed App Configuration and silent app installs? At the moment we're using Meraki for our fleet of iPads and have been very happy with it, but recently it's getting increasingly annoying that I can't deploy configuration PLIST/XML files to iOS Apps, whereas I know Lightspeed MDM has this functionality. Any recommendations appreciated!

As @simpsonj said, any ideas on cost? Looks like it'd solve a few problems that have been thrown my way. It's kind of annoying when companies don't publish any prices

A key and an activation count on the MS VLSC site, doesn't mean licensed. Ignore the number and go by the licenses you have purchased on paper, if you hit it you can ring MS and they'll up the limit for you (they originally only gave us 50 on our EES agreement before I had it upped to 250 per key). Reimaging a machine != losing a license.

I'll happily recommend the 2920. Got a couple sitting in our network and they've been 100% faultless the past year or two we've had them in. Only downtime they've had are reboots for firmware upgrades. The nice thing is they're still well supported, since Aruba took HPE's switch line up a lot of Aruba's feature set has been ported over to these switches Budgeted in some 10G modules for them this year, too!

I think this is a primary example of why datacenters shouldn't stick to one vendor, really.
